I think that the Miro issue is both being blown out of proportion and being over-simplified. We can all agree that AEW has had an eye towards long term booking, if not in all cases, at least those they feel are important (like the titles). Miro becomes available and management likely said, "This guy is great, we have to get him and make him a major part of our plans.". But they couldn't just get him and instantly make him a huge deal because of plans already in place. But he wants his check and AEW wants the pop, so they can't delay the signing. What do you do?
Well, they decided to have him spin his wheels in the Kip/Best Friends story. Generally lackluster, but they did use it to hit a couple important markers. The blowoff arcade match was decent and had a couple fun spots. They got an in-ring wedding out of it, which is apparently a requirement for any wrestling company. And Miro wasn't hurt by it, as you could see his violent charisma every time he was in the ring.
Could it have been better? Sure. But since they didn't want to hot shot him over their existing major plans, he couldn't be in an undercard program that overshadowed the major lines. So they did what they could to serve as many needs as they could. It wasn't all compelling television, and that is the problem for some people. And that is a totally justified approach. Alternatively, people are already arguing that if everything is a high spot than nothing is a high spot in terms of booking, and for those people, there needs to be headliners, midcard, and undercard stories of appropriate entertainment values. You can't please everyone, and sometimes great booking has to come at the expense of other factors.
Expecting them to bat 1.000 on this is unreasonable, so everyone has something to complain about. The Women's division is almost universally considered poor booking (for me in time, not necessarily in results), but everyone has their talking points. For some people it was Miro. For some, it is Penta and Fenix. For me, I hate the Inner Circle as faces, and the switch was pathetic. But ultimately not everyone can get their ideal booking because there are only so many spots.
