I think that the other MGS games, specifically MGS2 and 3, have a huge amount of gameplay depth and variety. But it's all happening at a much smaller scale, so I don't know if you'll dig it. MGSV is really its own thing in a lot of ways.

I would recommend MGS2 to anyone though, I think that game is such a breeze to play. Even knowing how much you liked V, it's hard to say if you'll like or dislike the other games at all because they are completely different.

I've seen a lot of people making assumptions that by Metal Gear Solid movie, it's going to be a movie based on the first Metal Gear Solid--which seems...crazy? Like has that been confirmed somewhere?

Obviously the kiddo in me would like this to be incredible but I'm thinking we'll get some kind of military action movie with a light sheen of Metal Gear sprayed over it. But also I still think this will not happen at all.

Here's my big take on this game: fuck crafting. fuck crafting big time. fuck that. I wish this game could've balanced some smaller open world sections with a linear design. Like any open world game I've played in the last ten years, it was just way too much of nothing.

In the world of Arkham Asylum-like games, I thought it could've been among the top tier. But it's bland man. Even the world design was weak for me. I'm a big fan of Mad Max first and foremost, but I so wish this could've been at least modeled after The Road Warrior instead of being modeled after Fury Road. If I remember correctly, didn't this game end up getting re-worked in some major way because of Fury Road? As in, it was in development for a long time and then all of a sudden Fury Road was happening?

I think the internet is still weird, niche, and exciting--but that part of the web isn't as front-facing as it was 15 or 20 years ago. I think the biggest thing that has changed the way people use the internet has been smartphones, and more specifically the way iPhones influenced the way consumers interact with the net. Steve Jobs was absolutely correct when he called the iPhone a "breakthrough internet communications device" at its initial reveal event.

The pre-corporate internet was charming in some ways that almost no modern website is, but I think we traded that for usability, which has never been better.

@kcin: You're projecting weird para-social stuff onto what I'm saying and I want you to stop. Here's my thesis for you again:

Jeff will retire someday and I would hate for some company to come in and destroy the website I've been using since I was 12. I hope Red Ventures is a great fit! I hope they allocate all of the resources that Giant Bomb needs and help them grow their audience and maintain quality work.

My caveat to that is dire! That's fair to say. Being all doom-and-gloom the same morning that a lot of CBSi employees received surprise invites to Zoom emails is a quick turnaround on some heady proclamations that I'm certainly not alone in.

But I think that concern is in no way unwarranted. As an on/off freelancer I've seen absolutely no shortage in OK-to-great websites being mishandled until they went out of business. I've also seen a great number of talented people be reduced to perennially job searching on Twitter every eight months.

No! Absolutely not. It's far too early to say or know anything. The only people who are liable to know anything right now are execs at CNET Media and Red Ventures. But this is definitely something to discuss the ramifications of.

@kcin: I don't think saying "Jeff has a family and has been doing this for a long time" is me concocting some wild theory.

It would be unprofessional for him to say anything else at this point. The cheerleader in here only weirds me out more. I'd always assumed Jeff did well enough in the sale to CBS that he could walk away at any time, if he wanted to, and now he's older and has a family I think the possibility only becomes more real if this PE/Marketing firm or whatever is just as clumsy as...oh, I don't know--any of the PE and VC groups that have taken working websites and drowned them in the toilet in the last decade.

What I'm worried about is that if Giant Bomb evaporates, I don't think we're going to see renegade Jeff back in a sausalito basement, I think he'll be like...someone who occasionally streams old games and writes something once a year on medium. and that makes me sad!

I'm in the middle of doing some research on this right now for the Wiki, but I'm about 99% sure that there are two companies called Fresh Games . One of which was founded in 2002 and makes puzzle browser games (some of which have seen notable release). The other Fresh Games was an imprint that Eidos owned to release some stranger, more Japanese fare. That company was responsible for the Mister Mosquito, Mad Maestro, Swingerz Golf, and Legaia 2: Duel Saga.

Both companies were established in 2002 which I think might be responsible for the mix-up.

I haven't messed around with editing this wiki in a while now so I may be making a thread that's unneccessary--if that's the case, I'm sorry. In any case these pages should be split into two and then I'll get to work making both of them make sense.

I guess I don't really understand this thing. I think it's cool, I think it looks cool, I think the fact that it's so versatile is cool--with or without the add-on adapters. But it seems like people are in a frenzy about this thing and I'm not sure I understand. The GBA SP does most of what this thing does...can someone tell me why people are so hot for this thing?
