2016 Games of the Year

So I will start off by saying I am not really going to do a top 10 list of games since there are so many games I played this year that deserve being mentioned (according to my thought process). So instead I figured I would talk about all the games I thought were worthy of being talked about and then the last 4 games will be in order for top four games I played this year. Again, most of these games came out years past, since I rarely finish games the year they come out. There might be a few games that came out this year on the list, but not many games. Here is a link to all the games I did play in case you want to see what I played and see how I came through the process of choosing the games here. http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/remilia_seven_fangs/lists/games-completed-in-2016-with-the-flu/355449/

List items

  • From the creator of Narcissu, comes the next Visual Novel about a lone girl and different world that expresses sadness, horror and the possible chance of getting a happy ending. This was not as impressive, nor emotionally effective as Narcissu yet, still has a very good story, graphics and music. There is even a hidden episode for Narcissu for those who wanted to learn more about the story in that game. I would recommend for those who read Narcissu.

  • I put the first one on my list last year because it as a very enjoyable Megaman-esque game, and I really enjoyed this game as well. They added more bosses to the second installment and there is even some more story connecting the first game to the second game. The game play slightly changes and adds more for players to try different combinations and styles that fit them. The game style and play are very easy to understand and works very well for any tight platforming you may encounter. A good choice for a 3DS player who wants a different kind of Megaman game.

  • A simple RPG with great art style, great music and a well versed battle system that helps to make this game a worth playing. The story is decent and helps to draw the players into the world Child of Light. Even though there are some minor issues with speed of text and not being able to get all the things people say, I greatly enjoyed playing this game and would say that others interested in RPG games might give this game a try.

  • I played this one just before I moved and I really enjoyed playing it. The simple game play, decent graphics and easy understanding of the games mechanics makes this a fairly enjoyable platforming game. The story is fairly decent as well, with some minor issues that could be fixed. I did play some of the sequels to this game and did not enjoy them as much as this one. This is the one to pick up over the others in my opinion.

  • Birthright and Revelations Path. I have not played Fire Emblem in a very long time and I picked this up for the 3DS and greatly enjoyed it. I have not completely finished Revelations, but I will do my best to finish the final couple missions before the end of the year. I would say Revelations is actually better in my opinion, but I enjoyed both paths. I do not know if I will get Conquest Path, but I will think about it after playing these paths. The game play, art, music, style, marriage and family systems are very enjoyable and slightly complex. I have been enjoying the thought processes and thinking required to make sure my team stays alive and who works best against which enemy. It may take some time for new players to figure things out, but I would suggest trying Casual mode first and then playing Normal Mode for the challenge. Definitely worth the play.

  • The Dusk series is my first into to the Atelier Series and I have enjoyed it very much. I really liked how they connected all the games in the Dusk series together and how it all came to an end. They made changes throughout the whole series that changed how you played each game. Yet, the changes never broke the game and actually helped improve my experience as I played through the series. If you do not like the time system most Atelier games have, this is the one for you to try and start off with. Well worth the play.

  • Who said you have to have HD graphics, music, style and gameplay to be a great game. This is one of those rare jewels that uses older style graphics and game play to make a very enjoyable game. The unique battle system, great music and decent story make this a game almost all RPG lovers should give a chance. It may take a little time to figure things out, but once you know, you will be able to make your way through the game. I would recommend for anyone who wants to give a chance, and the price is fairly generous for such a game.

  • 4.5 Omega Ruby, 4 Alpha Sapphire. I have both yes. So Pokemon almost always makes it on my game of the year list because I love the Pokemon games. Which one is higher on the list is based on the Pokemon I find in the game and any other minor changes they between games. I actually really loved the original Ruby/Sapphire games and this remake of the original has made for a great child hood memory lane. The added content also makes this game well worth trying for a Pokemon game. Obviously Sun/Moon will be on the list next year if I finish them :P.

  • 3. I was not sure I would enjoy this game that much, but when I tried the Free Weekend event, I ended up enjoying it a whole lot. The game has many cool ideas and concepts that make for a very long and enjoyable (almost endless) game. I played various styles until I came to a style I liked best. I would like to play more of it and maybe get a computer that can play the Special Edition Version, but until then I am glad I gave this game a try. There were some minor bugs and glitches I came across that effected my enjoyment (expecially later on), yet I can let those slide to express my enjoyment for this game.

  • 2. This almost made it to number one, but something else beat it. I greatly enjoyed this game and would gladly recommend this. The art style, music, game play and mechanics were so cool and interested that I almost did not want to stop playing some times. The idea of one person making the game they wanted to make and doing all the work to make a game of this magnitude was very impressive to me. I truly appreciated all that was put into this game to make for a great game.

  • Number 1!!! I do not know if there are enough words to express how much I enjoyed this game. This is the kind of game I like playing and being able to immerse myself into. I had trouble stopping sometimes because I wanted to know more about the characters, learn about the story, engulf myself in the art and music because it is such a well designed game. I have been a big Asian History/Culture Person and I believe that may put a bias on my placing for this game. Yet, this is definitely a game that people should give a chance and even share with others. A game worth being Number one in my opinion.
