Co-op: Beyond Good & Evil

So I've been playing a bit of Beyond Good & Evil and I recorded about 45 minutes or so and narrated throughout.  I'm going to try and do this more with other games as well and I'm going to call it "Co-op."  Clever, no?  I have to apologize for the delay, as I was unable to get this video up yesterday, and it's up on Vimeo, so I expect it to get taken down today.  If it does, I'll try to load it up on another site and hopefully it will be on YouTube when I break it into pieces.  Like I said, it is LONG.  Watch as little or as much as you'd like and enjoy.

Shall We Play a Game?

Hey everyone, I hope all is well.  I have some exciting news: For the first time in several months, I have a bit of free time.  So, I want to play some games!  If anyone is up for some gaming tonight, or any night this week, let me know and we can play a bit.  I've got most of the popular multiplayer games with the exception of the Call of Duty series, so let me know if you're interested.  Also, if you see me online, feel free to send me an invite.

In the scattered bit of time I've had for gaming, I was finally able to finish Starcraft: Brood War.  That game is significantly harder than the original and the final mission is quite a challenge.  I'm glad to be done with it and now I feel a lot more comfortable playing online matches.  Bring on SC2! Other than that, Chrono Trigger (DS) has been getting a bit of love every now and then.  The really remarkable thing about that game is how it just gets better and better as it goes.  When you first start, the time travel is novel, but doesn't blow you away.  However, as you keep going you're constantly exposed to situations in which you affect the course of history and discover a deeper meaning to the world's happenings.  Truly a beautiful game.

In other news, my Beyond Good & Evil video feature should go up tomorrow.  Once again, this will just be a video of me playing and narrating.  I've never played through this game before, so it will be first impressions and genuine reactions to everything that is going on.  If you're interested in the game, give it a watch.  I've also got some other blogs in the works for later in this week, so expect to hear more from me.

P.S. Also, this:

The Haul: 17 - Fading Fast

Welcome to The Haul.

I'm going to be completely honest with you here: I'm a bit sick of doing The Haul.  As such this may be the last consistent entry that I put up.  Thanks for all of your support and keep an eye out for some real blogs in the future.

As for BG&E (PS2), well I haven't made any additional progress because I've been busy with some other things recently.  I have, however, acquired a USB capture device, so I plan on recording some footage for my next update.  I'll probably just turn the game on and play and talk my way through it.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies (DS)
  • Price: $9.99
  • Location: Amazon
  • Comments: I'm a fan.

Stranglehold: Collector's Edition (360)
  • Price: $9.99
  • Location: NewEgg
  • Comments: I played the demo for this a long time ago and really enjoyed.  Also, I'm always on the lookout for special editions at great prices.

The Haul: 16 - Text

Welcome to The Haul

I'm blogging from my girlfriend's place in Kentucky right now, so this edition of The Haul will be text only. I should've taken pictures earlier in the week, but I didn't quite think things through. As will be standard from now on, go ahead and leave your vote for which game I should play this week in the comments section. I'll be sure to get to it and report back later.

Since my last entry I haven't been able to play BG&E (PS2) again, but I'm biding my time. I recently acquired a 5.1 channel surround sound system, so I had to do some testing on that (purely to make sure it was in working order ;)). I played a few races in Ridge Racer 7 (PS3) and really enjoyed the sounds of cars moving past me on the right and left, although the gameplay didn't seem to be anything special. After that, I tested out the 360 with a little Battlefield: Bad Company online action. The online mode in that game is really spectacular and the sounds of bullets whizzing by your head makes it that much more immersive. I wasn't actually very excited when I started, but I ended up playing for 4 hours straight! I can't remember the last time I played a game for that long. There's a constant feeling of "one more round."

Turok (360) - New

  • Price: $9.99
  • Location: Best Buy
  • Comments: The awesome dinosaur action in this game has actually had me intrigued since the game's release. Knowing I wouldn't play it for quite a while, I purposely held off. This deal was too good to pass up for a game that looks to be under appreciated.

The Simpsons Game -New

  • Price: $9.99
  • Location: Best Buy
  • Comments: I played the demo for this game and really enjoyed it. I've also heard that it's pretty funny and worth a look for any fans of the show.

Facebreaker (360) - New

  • Price: $9.99
  • Location: Best Buy
  • Comments: It may be considered terrible by the critics, but I think I can get some multiplayer fun out of it.

A Great Time for Gaming

When I rolled out of bed this morning, I noted that it was decidedly cold. Or perhaps a better description would be ridiculously cold. In fact, the temp was hovering at -12F/-24C when I walked to school in my full winter garb, face wrapped up like a ninja. Not the coldest day I've ever seen, but it's certainly up there. Some may complain, but it may be a blessing in disguise. I can think of no better time to sit down and play some great games. Speaking of which...

I started Beyond Good & Evil (PS2) last night. My first impression: That game is good. Really good. I ended playing until 12:30a and continuing my streak of getting no sleep. I'll write up a full blog detailing how I feel about the game later, but I'm really digging it so far. I have a couple qualms, but they are minor and almost forgettable.

Other than that, I'm working my way towards the end of the Terran campaign in Brood War (PC) and making steady progress in Chrono Trigger (DS). I'm gearing up to fight Magus right now and the trip has been great so far. I always forget all of the little things that make that game special. The characters are just so loveable and there is a unique sense of wonder to the whole game. The plot twists, beautiful graphics, and spectacular music are just pure icing. Never have I felt such a clear sense of redemption in a video game than when Frog picks up the Masamune and his epic theme starts playing. One can't help but smile. Dang, now I want to play right now...

I'm so proud of you all.  You picked one of the two games I most wanted to play from that list.  I'll get started tonight and let you know what I think in the very near future.

Get Out and Vote

So I've been doing some thinking.  It's a tragedy that I let so many games go unplayed.  I need to do something about it.  As such, I'm asking you to help me out on a weekly basis.  Here's the deal:  I post The Haul, and you pick one game from my purchases for me to play in the following week.  You can have one vote, and you don't have to justify it.  If you want to punish me and choose a game you think is terrible, then by all means, go ahead.

After I tally all the votes, I'll play that game for a few hours in the following week and report back to you with my impressions.  I may even do some recording of me playing and present it as a video blog.  So here we go.
