Donkey Kong Country (SNES) is a great game and I will fight you with my fists if you disagree.

I think people were just hoping for something more. It's been a long time since the last launch and we desperately want to be excited about something. Unfortunately, while Knack and Killzone are competent, they don't offer anything new. This may be unfair, but it is the truth.

Game seems to run fine for what it is and looks like it should be fun. Not really sure why everyone is so worried. Now, if it's unplayable or significantly less fun because of graphical issues, then it's a problem. Of course, none of you know that yet since you haven't played it. But this is the internet, so please carry on.

Well, this just became too cool for the internet. Shut it down, folks.

I'm not particularly impressed with Sony's lineup so I think I'll just grab Killzone so I have something to play.

Wow, people are really worked up about this... thing. Maybe give it a few days or weeks to shake out?

Killzone 2 was very underwhelming for me. I just kind of trudged through it so I could declare victory. It was miles better than the original game, but lagged quite a ways behind contemporary shooters. I never played 3, but I suspect it's a similar game.

A few quick thoughts: If we treat the SteamOS as a new, living-room based console, it actually makes a lot of sense. Valve is almost certainly recruiting developers (or working in-house) to port Steam-supported games to Linux. As such, all they need to do is provide a free copy of that port to those who already own the Windows/Mac version and they've got an immense "launch lineup" that the consumer already owns. This is better than the backwards compatibility of prior consoles since these games presumably look, and potentially play, better than when originally released.

If they select the games wisely, the average Steam Sale/Humble Bundle customer will already own a substantial portion of these games. This would allow new buyers to bring home a console with hundreds of games ready to go. Throw in Half-Life 3 at some point (this is more of a long shot than the ports, in my opinion) and the fact that PCs just haven't made it into most consumers' living rooms and you've got a recipe for success and rapid adoption.

I agree with most of the comments above with the following addition:

I believe this is a common complaint simply because most people don't like any battles in RPGs. Therefore, they see all fighting outside of the story as grinding. In reality, grinding is mostly a thing of the past (think NES, SNES, and PS1 eras). Most RPGs (and really most games in general) now follow a very linear progression and don't interrupt your forward momentum just for you to level your characters. Of course, these are broad generalizations and grinding still exists in a wide array of games (especially MMOs), it's just not nearly as prevalent as it used to be.

This is just a vocal minority, as with almost all internet outrage. News stations are just seizing on it for clicks. In reality, most people are completely indifferent or happy. I am indifferent because, logic.

I've only played through Metal Gear (NES) and Metal Gear Solid (PS) and I have to go with MGS; it truly changed the gaming landscape. The NES game was revolutionary in some ways and completely broken in others (Jungle maze, anyone?).
