Well I guess I'm not playing WoW anymore.

I used to play WoW a lot. Maybe even too much. I did play with some real life college friends that I don't live close to though. That was my excuse though, I don't see them anymore, it's nice to talk to them over the internetica. Well a few months ago a lot of them stopped playing. It was down to me and another guy. We were doing end game raiding two to three times a week. We were getting sick of it. Eventually he stopped so he could focus on Real Life, quitter, and the Star Craft 2 Beta. I went to the raids for a couple more weeks but finally I got sick of it.

I've been cured for about a month now. Today I got an e-mail from Blizzard. I got into the  Cataclysm Beta. And it was really from Blizzard. Not Chinese gold farmers trying to hack my account. Anyway...just when I thought I was cured. I have to at least try the beta, I thought. I went over to Battlenet and then it hit me. It asked for my Authenticator info....

I just got the new iPhone. and when  I originally set it up I remembered to remove the Authenticator from my account. When I set up the new one I ran the program on my phone and  re-attached it to my account. I lost my contacts when I switched phones and I went to the Apple store because I thought they could use the old sim card to transfer them. They told me you can do it right through iTunes. I was very excited to do this so I went home and restored my new phone to have all the info of my old phone... but forgot to take off the Authenticator from my account.

So when I tried to get into the account to try the Beta my code wasn't valid. Kinda Sad Panda. I guess I can call Blizzard and they will remove the Authenticator but I'm sure it's a long process. Plus I will have to admit I'm an idiot and didn't think it through. That is the worst part. Has anyone ran into this problem?? Is it easy to do??

New Donkey Kong Country

I really loved the first Donkey Kong Country (from this point on DKC). I would play it for hours and hours looking for the hidden rooms. After many many hours i found all the rooms and finished the game with 101%. I tried playing the second one but didn't enjoy it as much and then never touched the third. I never owned an N64 so I wasn't able to play Donkey Kong 64 (I believe that was the title), although i heard good things.

I was very excited to see a return to DKC on the Wii. From the footage they showed it looked like DKC. I'm excited to see more video of it and hopefully some hands on articles.

PAX East

Two Week ends ago i went to PAX East. It was my first gaming convention...well first convention in general. It was everything I really wanted it to be. I met a  lot of people I have listened to for Year. I didn't get to talk to Jeff from Giant Bomb but i was sitting in the first panel of the day and he came in late and sat a few chairs down from me.

Three Red Rings

On September 16, around , tragedy found me. I had rented Call of Duty: World at War, hoping I could try out the multiplayer

with a few college friends. I find shooting your old college room mate in the face with a machine gun is a nice way to stay in touch. I wanted to get some practice in before I faced off with someone I knew. As the game loaded I found my first victim, snuck up behind them and held down the right trigger. Instead of the spray of bullets, a loud grinding noise came from the X-Box and the screen froze. ‘Not again. Not like this,’ I thought to myself. ‘What if the other players leave me negative feedback for quitting early?’ ‘What does that feedback even do?’ ‘Do I even have any feedback?’

None of those thoughts mattered when I tried to turn the 360 back on. Instead of the welcoming jet engine noise that usually greets me when I turn it on, there was silence. The reason the system froze dawned on me as I lowered my head and waited for them to appear. It seemed that Elitey didn’t want to go down for the count yet. It might still have some fight in him. For a moment I was rooting for him. ‘You can do it, don’t be like all the other 360’s I’ve had. Fight for me Elitey, Fight so we can finish the fight in ODST, live to see the day when they try to pass the Mutant Registration Act in MUA 2, keep on keeping on so we can Rock another day.’ Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The three red lights of failure were here and here to stay.

Out of instinct I checked to see if the HDMI cord was plugged all the way to both the TV and Elitey, it was. Then I moved onto the po

wer source, seeing that the light was the right color, I called support to get the ball running. This is the third time I’ve got the death lights and I’m starting to think it’s my fault. Why do I keep killing my system? Or am I that bad a person that it had not other way out. After talking to customer service for awhile they told me to find a box and ship it out. So I did. Lucky I had a box lying around that was the right size. Went to and that was that. Didn’t have to pay for anything, which was nice.

A “new” 360 was returned to me today, September 30. Not a bad turn around I must say. I love Rock Band. That might even be an understatement. So when Elitey died the first thing I thought of was all the downloadable content that I have for it. Microsoft’s DRM is a pain in the neck. If file was downloaded on the system you are playing it on you have no problem taking that system offline and playing the song. That works out if you bring your system over to a friend’s house for “Friday of friendship Rock out night.” But now I have a new system and I will have to switch the license to the new system and re-download all the files.

I thought that was going to take a lot of time. Luckily, I was wrong. Switching the license took just a moment. You can now access your download history online and next to every item you downloaded there is a “add to queue” button. I added 30 items in an instant by clicking the middle mouse button and watching new tab after new tab open in Firefox. Turning on the 360 I was welcomed with ‘download complete’, one after another. In a way it became a race between the 360 and me. Could it download the file faster then I could middle click on the next song I wanted to add to the queue. It took about an hour to re-download all the game add-ons and arcade titles I wanted to attach to that system. I pulled the network cable and booted up Rock Band and the songs were playable offline.

Although it’s shitty that 360’s get the red lights, it’s nice to know that Microsoft streamlined the process of getting back up and running again. Now if they can make it so no one gets the red death lights again, that might be good idea.

Does Internet gaming, or the internet in general, have it's own D

My final paper for my first Grad school class has to be anything about the English Language. I was trying to write something about online gaming or message boards. "Leet Speak" seems to be a discourse for the internet and I wanted to write about how it came to be and if it will have an effect on the language at all. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thought I would try to go to the source for quotes.

 Thanks a lot.

Mother 3...this time in English!!!!!!!!

I am not a huge RPG fan. But when earthbound first came out for SNES i remember seeing it at the video store where i rented games. So what if it was a Shop and Save, they had great deals. Maybe it was the huge box or the promise of a guide to help you if you got lost, i rented it right away. I was hooked from the first dialouge box. I didn't really know the history of the game then. In later years i found out i wasn't the only person who fell in love with that giant box, far from it in fact.

Now after years of wanting to play more Earthbound or Mother, the day has come. Mister Saturn will be my friend again and i can only hope i have to fight hippies again in a blue town. I am so excited for this file upgrade that i went and ordered the handbook to help support them.

Thank you everyone involved.

Good start to the day...

The past few days my 360 has been acting a little weird. Its been crashing for no reason. I knew what was coming but i didn't want to admit it. But this morning I turned it on and it crashed one final time. When i turned it on again the red lights of doom were there to laugh in my face...once again.
Thats right this is my second 360. Last year...right around this time my first 360 got the sickness. I was so mad but wanted to play games so much that I went out and bought an Elite. So this Elite lasted about a year, Maybe a little less. Either 360's are really shatty put together or i just don't know how to store them and keep them safe. I made sure it always had enough air, i put a book under it so it could always have air flow. Oh well. I still have my old 360 that they sent back to me so i wont be without Rock Band :)
But GIANT BOMB is open. That was a good pick me up when i turned on my computer to get x-box's phone number. Imagine if the number was 1-800-red-ring. Anyway congrads guys on launching the site. I cant wait to look around and be part of it.
