I haven't watched anything from Nicolas Winding Refn since Drive, I knew vaguely he's been on a style streak since Valhalla Rising. I thought this film was good, needed shortening in places or deleted entirely, especially the scenes with Keanu Reeves. 7/10.
Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975);
I read nothing about this film - which in hindsight was the best idea - only to realise later that this is from the same director as The Truman Show and Master & Commander. This film was quite the discovery, definitely a story of symbolism, ideas and strong ambiguity. Probably the only time where I actually liked a pan flute led score in a film. 9/10
