Deserves the hype 0

The title of this review says it all. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time has everything gamers want in an adventure game. In terms of presentation, Nintendo brings out a top-notch performance. The music is epic as always, with the Gerudo Valley track being my favorite. It's true that the original overworld theme which Zelda fans  Always something new to exploreknow and love is missing. But it's not a big deal. The Forest and Shadow Temple tracks were creepy, while the tracks for the other tem...

A disgrace to the franchise 0

Sorry, but this is true. There are several flaws to this title that make it undeserving of its "4" in the the title.    For one, the camera is too close to Sonic. Isn't this the same problem that plagued the Game Boy Advance version of the original Sonic the Hedgehog? Besides the fact that I cannot see what is ahead of me in a decent manner, the camera being so close just does not feel right. I want to see the whole world Sonic is in, not just a close up of Sonic. But alas, Dimps does not agree....

Abysmal 0

This might be one of the worst games ever made. Big Blue Bubble may have started out not horribly with their simulation release of Home Sweet Home, but they have clearly hurt their name by releasing the extremely shallow Hockey Allstar Shootout. This is really the type of game that hurts not only those who made it, but the Wii brand itself, further divulging the Wii into the stereotype that nothing but shovelware comes out for this console. There are three modes to choose from, Head to He...

The Wii does not need screensavers...but still okay title 0

Nothing happens My Aquarium has consistently been one of the best sellers on WiiWare every week. It is strange that a glorified screensaver could attract so much attention, but either people don’t know what they are getting themselves into when they click download, or maybe there is actually something to this title. After all, this comes from Hudson, the same people that brought us Bomberman. We can trust Hudson right? After spending some time with My Aquarium, surprisingly ...

Good entry in Tetris franchise, but falls short in online play... 0

Tetris...with Miis! Another puzzle game has been released on WiiWare?! There are a couple of sure things in life. The sun will come out at some point. The sky will always be blue. Puzzle games will be consistently released on WiiWare. WiiWare is home to tons of cheap, cash-in, puzzle games that will never be remembered (with the exception of World of Goo). There is one puzzle game though that seems to stand the test of time, no matter where or when it is released. Yes, I’m ...

Refreshing twist on an old franchise 0

They're back... Everyone remembers Space Invaders. Ever since it’s release in 1978, Space Invaders has been successful in every way it possibly could be, from causing coin shortages in Japan to becoming the first thing that came to the average person’s mind when they thought of video games. Even in the more recent 1990s era arcade glory days of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, more often than not there was probably a Space Invaders machine in there as well. Well now instead of f...

Could have been epic 4

This could have been the ultimate Mario Kart. A few things have kept me from enjoying this title as much as Mario Kart DS though. I will be honest. I snake. I snake hard in Mario Kart DS. In addition, I star r*** like there is no tomorrow. I have to show those darn kids who is boss right? Alas, there is no snaking in Mario Kart Wii. That's cool, well can I at least talk with people online? Oh wait, no I cannot. Well then, the best non-snaking racer must win on a consistent basis then right? No, ...

Needs online communication 0

Here is another game that could have fared a lot better if Nintendo games had better online interaction. There is nothing here that is too wrong. It’s just that if you weren’t a fan of pool before this game, there is no reason to try this video game version. If you are a pool enthusiast, I still argue this game is not worth it.   The graphics are fine for a WiiWare title. Sure they could have been more exciting, but let’s face it, this is pool. The controls were satisfactory. As w...

Eggplant wizards will make you quit 0

Describing Kid Icarus as difficult is an understatement. The first level will take a couple of tries. The next level becomes insanely hard, mainly because of the evil eggplant wizards. You reach this maze of sorts in the second level, and in some parts of the maze are wizards that can turn Pit, the main character, into an eggplant as soon as their projectile hits. Once Pit becomes an eggplant, he has to backtrack a long way to the recovery area, a daunting task considering there is ...

Solid, mindless fun 0

There are strangely some RPG elements to River City Ransom. This will especially be evident when you go into towns and buy food (or some other strange item…). For example, if you go into a seafod restaurant, after you buy salmon, it will immediately give you + points in a certain areas relating to strength and the ability to evade. You can even store some items and use it during the battle, just like in Final Fantasy.  RPG elements add depth But that is where the similarities to...

A must have WiiWare title 0

With it’s simple structure, it was hard for me to imagine anyone taking the concept of Pong and turning it into a decent modern video game that can hold its own, but AKSYS Games has done just that with Bit Trip Beat. There is not much to find wrong with this game, other than maybe it’s slightly too difficult. You’ll be frantically trying to move the paddle so quickly to stop the “beats” from getting past you, the fact this game is based on such an old concept will soon be forgotte...

A legend that still holds up today 0

Most people reading this review have probably played this game at least once. However, in case that statement is false, well it should not be. The fact that I still play Super Mario Bros. at least twenty years after I first tried it speaks volumes to how great the game holds up. In another twenty years, chances are that I will still feel the urge to play this game.    There have been many Mario "clones" over the years trying the duplicate the success this title has enjoyed. But there is  Perf...

An okay effort 0

Don’t let the easy first few stages fool you. This is another surprisingly difficult WiiWare title that requires tons of patience to get through. Niki - Rock ‘n’ Ball is Bplus’s second attempt at a WiiWare title, and although their effort here doesn’t fall totally flat, there are some shortcomings. The title of Niki - Rock ‘n’ Ball says it all, you play the role of a ball rolling around as you rock the Wii remote back and forth. To defeat an enemy, one simply ...

A vastly overlooked title 0

Oh no, a game featuring kids running around shooting water at each other! Could Water Warfare be just like any other “family” title that has seemed to flood the Wii since its inception? Hudson releases a game that at first glance screams shovelware, but a closer look reveals much depth.  FPS lovers should feel at home here Let’s start off by explaining the gameplay. Personally, I don’t have too much experience in the FPS genre since I don’t have an affinity for massive amounts...

I have a different opinion here... 4

Before I walk into unknown territory and criticize this legendary title, let me say that I am not a young person. All the 8-bit Mario games remain great to me and in my view, are better than the majority of video games today. So it pains me to say anything bad about a game people love this much. In fact, I once fell for the hype. Last summer, I wrote a review for a small blog owned by someone else, and I completely urged people to download Super Mario 64, giving the game all the praise everyone ...

Interesting concept, but fails in execution 0

Bit Boy!! starts off as an interesting concept. Players have to guide a cube named Kubi through different eras of video gaming to save his friends because he accidentally offended a 4-bit monster. As with most arcade style games, this storyline is good enough to get things going. But once the novelty of playing through the different video game eras wears off, Bit Boy!! becomes a desperate Pac Man clone trying hard to charm its audience with cute looking characters. Bplus tries hard in ...

Frustrating...which means it resembles real golf! 0

Are you ready to play some Hot Shots Golf err…I mean Mario Golf for the Nintendo 64? Camelot, the developer of this title, was also the original developer of the first Hot Shots Golf, the other cutesy golf series that lives on the Playstation consoles. So if you’ve played Hot Shots Golf like I have, you’ll notice that the gameplay mechanics are exactly the same. I really do mean they are exactly the same, from the way you swing the club, to the putting mechanics, to the close up shots o...

Comes close to the greatness of 9 0

Mega Man 10 comes close. I wanted this game to be as great as Mega Man 9. However, I could not get over one aspect of Mega Man 10, the lack of good music. Think about which Mega Man titles have the best music. Mega Man 2 and 9 are two of the highest rated Mega Man titles, and they share the common aspect of catchy music. In Mega Man 10, the themes sound like they are going somewhere, but ultimately do nothing for my ears. I will get to that point in a second.  Yes, this does look and feel fam...
