What is a counter-argument to the #1reasonwhy hashtag? Really, whet is it? It's not an issue that presents itself for debate. There are real stories from real people being shared there that express personally lived examples of sexist behavior. The people sharing these stories in 140 character snippets did so to shine a light in a dark corner. No one wants to be a victim of sexism, and no one is saying that a Twitter trend is a solution. So again, what is there to argue about this other than tangential issues like how Patrick framed the story. Take in the information (or don't, I suppose) and do with it what you will. Too much intellectual effort is being wasted on the inflated existential crisis that is whether or not something should be said on the Internet.

Vocally support progressive, open-minded game developers and journalists. Period.

Essentially my entire thoughts on this too, well put sir.

Giantbomb is pretty much the only videogame site I visit, and has been that way for the past few years. Partly because of the great entertainment, and partly because I know that the views that I get are honest. This was reinforced by Jeff discussing why he hasn't had a good time with Dance Central 3, a game that has been shown by PR folk (even one as loveable as Solid Drake) numerous times at Giantbomb. I've also completely forgot that they've only been in these new offices what, 7 months? You guys are fine. Keep doing that game talkin' you guys do.

For beers I absolutely love a strong, dark ale. Like a Dark Island Reserve. Lovely.

For spirits I've always drank a Gin and Cranberry juice which I randomly ordered in my first year of Uni. With a cranberry juice from actual fruit, not concentrate, then poured over ice it's rather divine.

Bastion's soundtrack absolutely blew me away. I honestly didn't expect the soundtrack to be of that high quality despite the praise it was getting. Amazing soundtrack.

But my favourite is Baten Kaitos' for the Gamecube. Because I really fucking like guitar solos in boss battles.

Honorable mention to Secret of Mana too. That has some tremendous songs on it.

I haven't read all the posts here as I am on my way into work, but random encounters have become fairly ancient history at this point anyway. I think any game that adheres to that ancient trope are being very lazy at this point.

There have been a few great spins on the random encounter formula in recent years, The Ar Tonelico series had small areas where you could only have a certain amount of random battles before you stopped having them entirely, between 5-10 I believe, which was a fine number. Wanted to grind? Leave the area and enter it again.

I hope and pray Jeff was just sitting in the office during a slight lull in the day's proceedings, perhaps 20 minutes before recording something or going to a meeting and then he saw this article and challenged himself with: "I wonder how I can make this relevant to video games". And as such this article was birthed.

A bunch of videos will be going up this week, these being the panel and a number of interviews with indie developers. But yeah, they stated a number of times that they weren't going to go all out with coverage for PAX.

Ar Tonelico 2 for the PS2. The third to last boss uses a move after turn 3 that simply freezes the game. A very powerful attack indeed. You CAN get around this by grinding your characters to become killing machines to kill it before then, but still, it's enormously frustrating.
