Bought this on sale on Steam a while ago and couldn't get into it. It just doesn't communicate enough. Found myself constantly running out of ammo, didn't like the feel of it in general.

Was bummed because I do love the genre, and the style is incredible.

It is interesting to hear Brad talk about the things he loves about DOOM, as i feel like those exact things are what Shadow Warrior does too, and mostly better. And i say that as a person who liked Doom more overall.

DOOM and Shadow Warrior 2 really aren't comparable at all as far as I'm concerned-- the visual design is totally different, the writing/tone is totally different, and the game design is entirely different. One is a linear FPS the other is a mission based, loot driven FPS that works best with at least one other player.

I was actually surprised by how much I liked Shadow Warrior 2 personally, but it doesn't even come close on any level to DOOM.

Can confirm this game is excellent.

Definitely need to be moving constantly though, standing still for any period of time will get you killed quickly.

People can suck - although I believe in my heart of hearts people are oftentimes more beautiful than they suck - and that's just how it is.

You said a lot of things I completely disagree with. I'm annoyed on Gita's behalf for having to listen to someone imply that her awareness of racism is largley in her head and was fed to her by her parents--not to mention having to listen to a stranger call her "honey."

But, the thing I disagree with the most is this statement I quoted. People suck far more often than they are beautiful. Sometimes they suck even more specifically because they don't realize how much they suck. And there's a particularly horrible irony when they suck in the process of trying to convince someone that people don't suck and that it's all in your head about how you were raised to believe people suck.

I was going to write a whole snide retort to this dude's comment, but you pretty much nailed it without even needing to be that snippy.

This sounds like yet another Uncharted game! Not that that's a bad thing but after 3 console games I think I'm good. It's a shame that the review doesn't really seem to go into what makes this game stand out more than any previous Uncharted game, but I suspect those moments would be considered spoilers.

This isn't a problem that I have with Dan or even this specific review, but reviews in general need to detail specific moments in order to have any real critical meaning. As someone who is pretty tired of this franchise I'd be open to a critical appraisal that redeems the storytelling (which I agree has been pretty lackluster in previous entries) but without any details about the story or characters beyond a basic synopsis, I'm not sold on any critical reaction.

Hoping that one day reviews can move beyond this pandering to the spoiler sensitive crowd.

@rockyraccoon37: it is undoubtedly the least cringeworthy the questions have ever been

I will proceed then, thank you all for the much needed feedback.

I can not handle the cringe.

How bad are the audience questions this year? Can't bring myself to watch that stuff after past panels.

Just a heads up, this game looks great at first glance, but after you spend a bit of time with it you realize how terrible the loot system is and how badly balanced it is, on top of having horrible performance issues and god awful AI. (also never try to play without at least one person you know or you will never clear a map)

Of course this won't generally be an issue until you try to step outside of the normal difficulty, so it might take a bit for it to rear it's true colors, but trust me it will.

The loot system really does need some retooling to be slightly more in favour of the player. It'd be nice if you got more than one piece of loot at the end of a run too considering how long some of those maps can take to complete. Haven't noticed any performance issues on my end but the AI hasn't been too much of an issue on hard. If anything the janky AI (when it pops up) usually works in your favour causing enemies to stand still, get stuck in geometry or randomly retreat.

It's a great game though, the framework for an excellent co-op experience is there they just need to improve some issues and expand on the game with DLC. Would love to see more enemy variety, more weapons and a better AI director to make the runs a little more varied.
