i hereby immediately rescind all compliments paid up to and beyond this moment:

this take is so hot i've been admitted to the ICU.

This tweet drove me to post here.

Thank you Abby, you continue to provide the best takes. I will take a million Jar Jar's over one Gollum.

A lot of talk about the representation of women in this movie but I felt that this more than the original Blade Runner really thought about women, what men want from women and their place in society. They are either commodified, sexualized, without agency, or reduced to their reproductive functions by corporations, men and society at large. This didn't feel to me exploitative but instead felt quite critical, especially with neon signs proclaiming that you can have anything you desire under naked hologram women. After all, the main thrust of the story is about Wallace obsessing over gaining control over the female body, hoping to create bioengineered wombs in replicants who have no agency so men can colonize the stars.

It absolutely depicts some brutal violence towards women and I wouldn't begrudge anyone not wanting to watch it again based on that, but I can't see a reading of this movie as being sexist in any way holding up.

@horseman6: The only ones I enjoyed have been Captain America, The Winter Soldier, and Logan. I'm kind of an outlier in that the only superhero movies I've genuinely loved (besides Logan) have been the Zack Snyder DC films.

@dgtlty:That might be Birdman? I don't know for sure I haven't seen it.

I'm pretty surprised to see so many people here saying they're tired of the Marvel formula-- couldn't agree more though! I got tired of it around the time of the first Avengers movie, and with some exceptions all of their movies have been pretty boring or flat out awful to me. Every main character is the same lovable rogue who has to learn that with great power comes great responsibility and man if I'm not tired of that.

@oldenglishc: It was actually Mary. Given the opportunity Batman would've killed the Spider-Man

Also Batman V Superman was an unmitigated trashfire that cannot get ENOUGH hate. If you want me to go into details, I absolutely will, but I also don't want to threadjack...

You're wrong, but it's cool I still love you.

@rockyraccoon37: If that term is really that meaningless then why did you get so offended by it?

It doesn't offend me, it offends my intelligence.

As I mentioned: "It's the new meaningless pejorative for people who get overly defensive about products and brands they have an unhealthy obsession with getting criticized in a manner they disagree with, but have no capacity to formulate a meaningful counter-argument."

I made it as far as "SJW's" and I stopped reading. I expected better on this site.

Seriously, can we petition @rorie to implement a ban on the use of that term here. It's the new meaningless pejorative for people who get overly defensive about products and brands they have an unhealthy obsession with getting criticized in a manner they disagree with, but have no capacity to formulate a meaningful counter-argument.
