This is literally the first time I've seen someone say either of the R6 Vegas games have some of the best campaigns. They are probably the most serviceable campaigns in a shooter last generation, the perfect thing to mess around with when you arent playing the multiplayer. Also those game's rely so heavily on their cover mechanics that I don't think I would even lump them in the FPS genre completely.

I think every mode in both of those games is great. Enjoyed both the campaigns a lot. However I do consider them a FPS/TPS mix.

Doom calibre? I wouldn't say that myself but they are really fun. I really like that kind of squad based tactical shooter and the genre hardly exists anymore.

I said everything I said as a big fan of nearly all of the rainbow six games. Love the games to death, but I found it comical seeing the vegas games as best shooter campaigns in FPS history.

The Rainbow Six Vegas campaigns. The story may not be all that memorable, but the locations you go through are great. You can play on your own and command squad AI team mates, or you can play co-operatively with friends. You can play on Normal difficulty, or when you bump it up to Realistic, the gameplay gets even better. Night and Thermal vision, flashbangs, smoke grenades, remote detonated C4 charges. Shooting people while hanging from ropes. Peeking under doors and tagging enemies, sometimes you get caught in the open, other times, you can plan ahead how to tackle tough encounters. I even played through Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on Realistic using only a Desert Eagle pistol, making it the only FPS campaign I've played through three times. Easily among the best fps campaigns of all time, still good looking games now.

Let me prefix this by saying I understand we're talking about opinions here, but yeah, I was completely in stasis when they said DOOM was the best campaign of the past 20 years and maybe ever. Not only did I not agree with that, I could especially not understand how they would say something like that when Titanfall 2 came out the same year. That's just insanity to me. I went to psychiatric evaluation just in case, but they assured me I wasn't insane, so it must be them.

Hearing how much praise the new Doom was getting, and seeing as how I am a huge fan of the original game, I just had to check it out. It's a little hard to believe that I am playing the same game that got everyone so excited. I can see that for many people that it has really breathed fresh air into the genre, even if it leaves me a little cold, it seems I'm not the only one.

On that note, I just thought of another fps campaign I thought was much better - Borderlands 2 anyone? :)

Since subjectivity keeps coming up in this thread - my opinion on Borderlands 2 is pretty low. I don't think it's necessarily a bad game, there are some things I liked about it. You mean there's a shooter that's longer than ten hours, has a lively and animated art style, and has a bunch of massive, wide-open, and varied environments? Sign me the fuck up! Actually, those things are what pretty much carried me through the game. But I have never played a game that left me so unsatisfied. Nothing in that game was satisfying - I never found a gun that I even remotely enjoyed using and only occasionally found anything that felt useful, enemies were unnecessary bullet sponges and were boring when they weren't aggravating, and the writing went beyond abhorrent into some grating hellscape of outdated internet memes and characters so annoying that they still give me nightmares. And I watch anime!

With Borderlands 2, I was careful to pick the Mechromancer for my playthrough. I enjoyed the shooting a lot this way, as her skills double down on the Elemental effects, so new guns that set enemies on fire better, electrocute them better, corrode them better are always being dropped. And the revolvers that shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger are great. The characters.. Towards the end I was really hyped to kill Handsome Jack. I don't think a game has ever made me hate an antagonist this much :/
