be gentle this is my first, the second you can rip apart all you want lol
"Doomsday" is an apocalyptic gore fest, that for once I enjoyed, a lot.
"Doomsday" is set 27 years in the future. In the year of 2008 a deadly virus strikes the United Kingdom and threatens to spread and wipe out humanity. To prevent the spread of this disease,Scotland is quarantined and a wall is built, leaving all who live within to die. Millions are left to die and the whole world watches as a government turns its back. 27 years later in 2035, the once thought dead zone shows signs of life, just as the virus reappears inside the city of London. The government takes quick action to fence off the newly infected areas. They form an elite team led by Maj. Eden Sinclair (Rhonda Mitra) to go over the wall in search of survivors and a possible cure. Once over the wall the team soon discovers that this dead zone is not as abandoned as once thought, rather a dark and barbaric threat awaits. They must fight their way out and bring any hope of a cure back in order to save millions.
Ill start by saying the acting was a lot better then I thought it would have been. Usually a horror film like this doesn't fill its cast with a great group but I was very pleased. Not only did the lead Mitra play a great heroin that kicked some serious ***, but the rest if the cast didn't disappoint, especially Craig Conway who played Sol, the mo-hawked leader of the barbaric group living in the city. He played a very interesting and sick character, who was fun to watch but also truly disturbing at the same time. Id also like to mention Alexander Siddig, a rather unknown actor who played the Prime Minister in this film, he also appears in Syrian as Prince Nasir Al-Subaai , and I have just recently been noticing him and would like to see him in more films.
Action wise this film doesn't disappointed. Its got car chases, gun fights and gore galore. This was defiantly one of the bloodiest films Ive watched in a while, but it wasn't over done i think, which I liked.
Usually I don't like these types of films. Like Resident Evil and recent apocalyptic films usually don't go over well with me, and I usually hate them, but this one was different. It reminded me of Mad Max, Escape From New York and even Waterworld. It had a great lead who kicked *** and had very interesting and psychotic villains.
The film did have some flaws, and a few plot holes but not enough to really hurt the film is anyway. The plot was interesting in my opinion and I liked how they portrayed the people inside the wall, both groups, so different, living separate paths but each barbaric in their own way and era.
The film gets respect for actually being enjoyable, and its entertaining and essentially I believe it fulfilled what it planned to do. Critic wise this film wasnt well received, but its just one that can only appeal to a few. I will say now that many will not agree with me on this one, but I really enjoyed this one. Its got action and gore and stands side by side with Mad Max and Escape from New York, and I enjoyed it alot, 8.5/10.

"The Love Guru" is a sign of Mike Myers fall from comedy gold to trash.
"The Love Guru" stars Mike Myers as Guru Pitka, a Guru whose careers revolves around his love advise. He is hired by Jane Bullard ( Jessica Alba) the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs whose star player Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco) has lost his touch, can no longer player because of a recent break up. Guru must help get him together ith his ex, while trying to resist his love for Jane.
To start, the acting is horrible. Mike Myers has never been worse, it is sad to see him min this. Alba is her dumb old self, and one must begin to wonder whether or not she even knows where she is, let alone the movies shes decides to be in. Apparently the girl doesn't care about her career, well I guess she doesn't have to with her looks. There were many actors in this film that I cant believe lent their voice and appearance, including Morgan Freeman and especially Bens Kingsley.
The comedy in this was....well nonexistent. I laughed maybe twice. The film is filled with either jokes from Myers's previous films, or from 20 minutes earlier in the film. Comedy wise, this film was one of the worst I have ever seen, because there was no comedy, Mike Myers has really lost his touch.
The story, like everything else, was bad. I mean the story moved at a high speed pace, everything came and went and problems were resolved in seconds, they build up the film for certain confrontations and when they occur they are one line of dialogue, a hug and everything is fine. Also the ending is crap, and by that point you arent surprised.
In the end, this movie isnt worth a viewing. It would be a waste of time and money to watch this, look at this, or even read this review. Im sad, sad to see that Mike Myers, the once funny guy from Waynes World and Saturday Night Live, has reverted to this type of movie. First Sandler, then Murphy and now Myers. I truly hated this film, one of the worst of the year 2/10.
Okay , so my laptop broke at the beginning of the summer. I was watching a film and it began to freeze and make funny sounds, this after weeks of getting slower and slower. So I got a little too angry and hit it...opps. So yeah I apparently hit the hard drive causing an internal error. I reformatted multiple times but it never fixed, and it got to the point and still is at the point in which if I turn it off I cant turn it on, and have to reformat. So I decided to instead of fixing it, which would cost probably a lot of money, Id buy a new, better laptop. So I worked all summer until...
I finnally had enough for college books and a laptop, so I ordered a HP Pavilion dv6910us. http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-dv6910us-15-4-Widescreen-Entertainment-Laptop-FE653UA-ABA/sem/rpsm/oid/214772/catOid/-12963/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
It is usually 780 bucks, but I got it on sale and in the end all I paid was $549, so what you all think? I wasnt out for a gaming computer because I plan to keep working and get a desktop, but this will be my life when I get back to school, for movies, games like Guild Wars and of course OT. I think it was a deal, I mean for 549 Im getting:
3 GB Ram
200 GB Hard Drive
AMD Turion X2 TL-60
A Built in Web Cam
Burns DVDs and CDs
has Light Scribe( sick little thing that eches pictures into the top of your dvd disks via your dvd drive)
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M and 1071MB of shared video memory
15.4" high-definition widescreen display with 1280 x 800 pixel (WXGA) resolution
...it should arrive tomorrow!
"Tropic Thunder" is an action packed parody that is not only one of the funniest films of the year, but one of my favorite comedy films in a long time.
"Tropic Thunder" is based around a group of actors who are trying to make a war film based on a book. Trouble brews on set as the cast begin to have trouble working with each other because they are all so different. There is Jeff Portnoy ( Jack Black) the washed up comedian who relies on nothing but gag humor to make people laugh. Then there is Tugg Speedman ( Ben Stiller), the action star who is desperate to be in a serious film. And lastly we have Kirk Lazarus ( Robert Downey Jr), the multiple academy award winning actor with a habit of getting too into his role, for example to shoot this war film he has had a pigment operation to truly take on the role of the African American soldier. As shooting is held up due to an argument between the cast, the films director Damien Cockburn (Steve Coogan) does not know what to do. A plan is devised by Four Leaf Tayback ( Nick Nolte) the man who the film is based on, to place the actors into the jungle and have them get a feel of what it is really like to be in combat, this plan however doesn't go as plan when they are attacked by a real group of militia. The actors must learn to deal with each other while staying alive.
To start, I will mention the acting. The group of actors in this film was perfect, they worked so well together. The top three being Jack Black, Robert Downey and Ben Stiller, so I will go through each. For all of those who hate Ben Stiller, there is no denying he is great in this film. Many complain about his acting, but they forget that he is a comedian, that he aims to make you laugh not to win an Oscar, and in this film you see a side of him you haven't seen since "Something About Mary". Jack Black, although not much different then his usual characters, is in a much different film they you normally see him, and you do see a new hilarious side to him because unlike many of his films to date he is really able to let loose. Everyone in the film was great, but nothing was better then Robert Downey Jr. He was amazing in this film. His performance is actually one of the better of the year, if anything I say see it to see him do this role.
The action was also very good, I mean it pulls off being a war film, I will go as far to say one of the better war films to be released in the past few years. This film has explosions, gun fights, helicopters, and gore mashed with some smart dialogue, great writing and even better acting.
The plot of the film is great. The movie is a great parody of war films and Hollywood. It honestly felt like I was watching an older Mel Brooks film like "Blazing Saddles". This is what a parody film should be, not like those "Epic Movies" and what not. The comedy is great and so many scenes had me, and everyone in the theater crouched over in pain and laughter. When I think a parody, i think "Blazing Saddles", a parody to me, should not just make fun of the movies it parodies, but also be that film. For example "Blazing Saddles" is in essence a western, but while being one it points out all the cliches and mocks them. The problems with "Epic Movie" and what not, is instead of actually being an epic film, it just has a stupid "non-epic" story line, and just makes fun of other films with dumb humor, and they are also very obvious as to what they mock, were as a true parody should be subtle. "Tropic Thunder" does this. I mean it is a war film, the story line turns into an actual story of survival and war, but while it plays out being a war film, it mocks the ****cs like "Platoon", and it does it wa smart humor and dialogue, as well as pushing the limits and not holding back.
Thats one thing I love about this film, it doesn't hold back, its not afraid to push the limit and make fun of everything from top Hollywood executives, mentally handicapped, "Rambo" and "Apocalypse Now". Hollywood is really ripped apart in many ways, mocking everything from drugs addicting actors, to the stupid sequels being dished out year after year. I have yet to laugh this much in a film since "Stir Crazy", my favorite comedy. This, at the moment does deserve a right in my top ten comedy films of all time.
I say go see it, one of the better comedies and films of the year. It pushes the limits and is what a true parody film should be, and in the end, I give a 10/10, there was nothing they could have changed, it was almost perfect.
**and dont be complaining about the score I give this, of course many will not agree with me, but this is just how I feel about this film, if you do disagree, feel free to explain why**

So for the past few days Ive had a good amount of time with the games I got with my 360, and here are my first impressions.
GTA IV: At first I didn't like this game. Not only was it boring, ad the missions were horrible compared to those of previous games, and also to add the horrible driving controls, I was on the verge of returning the game. I didn't however and I decided to put some more time into it. Well, the driving controls are still bad in my opinion, I have gotten used to them but the turning and braking makes for some difficulty during chases and what not. But everything else has improved. The missions are getting better. The thing that really saved it for me was the cool little things you can do. Play darts, pool, go bowling and the biggest surprise, watch TV. They have a really funny program on the TV in the game about the history of Liberty City. It is pretty long and funny and after watching this I new I had to give the game a chance.
So in the end so far I give it a 8/10, not the best GTA.
Halo 3: I'm liking this game so far. I have been doing co op campaign with my brother. The graphics are looking very good and the environments are great. It does have the same old feel of the first two, but it also does stand out. Some of the battles are a lot more massive and I'm liking it. The new weapons are cool, I'm loving the hammer. The new grenades I'm neutral on, I mean they are a nice addition but I have yet to use any other then the normal two from the first two games. I have not yet played online, but I have played my friends in multiplayer, and I have to say I don't like it as much as Halo 2. I mean everything is the same, except for the maps, and I'm not a fan of the map pack this game has.
So in the end so far i give it a 8.5/10, not the best Halo.
Call of Duty 4: This...game...is awesome. Its is a huge improvement over the already great Call of Duty games. I love the modern setting which has opened up a lot of options for weapons and game play. So far the story is great, the opening little cinematic in which you are a hostage driving in the back of a car, and you are taken through the city and you can see raids taking place and people being shoot. It felt like I was watching the opening scene to a film, amazing. The battles have been very intense, and don't even feel like Call of Duty battles, because the ones in this game are so much more intense and wide scale, I mean rockets and helicopters flying around, buildings in the background exploding. One feature I love is the addition of the night vision, which isn't new to gaming but you've really never seen it in COD, and its a great addition that adds to the game play.
So in the end so far i give it a 10/10, the best Call of Duty.
"Starship Troopers 3" is so bad that its good.
Ill start by telling a little tale about how I got this film. With my recent purchase of an Xbox 360, my friends and I decided to throw an old fashion Halo party, which we hadn't done in a year. So we gathered at my friends house and played Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3. It was fun, but by 1 am we got bored. We decided to just sit and talk which got boring as well. So we said screw it...lets go to the 24 hour Walmart. So yeah, we piled into my friends Explorer and hit the road. We arrived at the Walmart at around 2am, and we walked through the store. I was looking to buy "Collateral" but they didn't have it. So then it hit me...SST 3!! Once I mentioned it to my friends we pooled money together and bought it...none of us were willing to spend 20 bucks so we had to each chip some money in, we drove back...put it in, and the funny began.
This film is a few years past the first. We are introduced to Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien), hero from the first film. He is in charge of some men an a out colony base. A system of trenchs and walls protects them from the man hating bugs. The Federation has become far more strict since the first, and now have banned any form of speech against the government, as well as religion. One hero to the people is Sky Marshall Anoke (Stephen Hogan), a singer and also a psychic, he has come to visit the planet to see what progress is being made. With him is Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock), an old friend of Ricos. While the visit is taking place something goes wrong with the electric barriers around the base and the bugs get in and the fighting begins. Beck and the Marshall end up stranded on a random planet and Rico and sent to save them...awful.
So Ill start with the the acting...or lack there of. This film has some of the worse acting I have seen in any film, let alone any straight to DVD film. Casper who plays Rico, who was at least decent in the first, is just awful. It was like he didn't give a flying f***. Their was about two people whos performances I could call decent, but that is it.
Action wise...this film has none. I mean there is some fighting and what not, but most of the film is walking and talking. The few fights there are in this film are laughable. TV shows in recent years have better action, and as for gore, this film really lacked, many kills don't even happen on screen, instead we see shadows and limbs.
The CGI and animation is just horrible. It must of had more green screens then "Sin City" and "300". I think the entire film was done in one desert and a basement. The bugs looked poorly done and fake, the environments, at point looked ...ok...but they seemed to be all fake.
Now as bad as this film sounds...in the end it was the films biggest advantage. Being so bad, made it good. I mean, you wont have as much fun laughing and pointing out a films flaws until you see this. When the credits began to roll I just started to laugh. I was in awe. Me and my friends plan to burn it. I mean, we will get more entertainment watching the DVD burn and melt away then we had actually seeing this film. I mean, I liked the first, its a guilty pleasure, it had enough action and was entertaining enough for me to give it a 7/10. This one however, so much less.
Dont see this, if your friends try to make you, lose the friends. You are better off living a life of solitude then to view this movie. 1/10.
* i can not find pictures for this film, its like google search doesnt even want to be associated with it**
"Harold and Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay" is a raunchy, unfunny and plain hypocritical film that tries so hard to make fun of the people it parodies that it just comes off offensive.
"Harold and Kumar 2" stars once again Harold (John Cho) and Kumar (Kal Penn) as two stoners. The film picks up right were the first left off, the two fresh off a wild adventure to get to White Castle have decided to take another trip, this time to Amsterdam. This trip however is destroyed when Kumar and Harold are arrested for being suspected terrorists after a mishap on the plane. They are investigated by a crazy federal agent Ron Fox (Rob Corddry). They are sent to Guantanamo Bay were they eventually escape. The rest of the film follows a somewhat predictable past as the two try to make there way back to New Jersey, prove their innocence's all while Kumar has his own side mission to find the only girl he has ever loved.
Ill start off with the bad. I honestly hated this film. After seeing the first, which was a funny and goofy comedy, I atleast expected to laugh as much as the first. This however did not happen, no instead I was left was a few chuckles, but a load of facepalms and turning away from the screen. This film really felt like it feel to the level of all the other parody films out there. I laughed more watching the ever so awful "Epic Movie" then I did watching this.
As for the "message" this film tries to give in all its shenanigans it ends up being more hypocritical then some of the things it tried making fun of. For example the character played by Rob Corddry, I can see what they were going for with him and his ideas, the who message that the use may be taking suspects and sending them away without investigation and what not. In the end, it went so over board that it wasn't funny but offensive, I mean some parts that were meant to be funny stereotypes were done so badly that you just had to facepalm.
The acting is also very bad. I mean you cant expect much from a film like this, but it is just horrible at parts. Harold and Kumar, who were funny in the first, just didn't have the same smart raunchy jokes as the first, no this time they left it all to gags and some disgusting scenes that make you look away before you want to laugh.
The plot was extremely predictable. My brother was amazed that I could point out everything that was to happen before it did. Overall this film is just bad, very bad. I don't recommend watching it, unless you really like these types of films. Some may disagree, but please offer your opinion because i cannot see how anyone could truly love this film unless they were as high as the two main characters were most of the time. Defiantly has reserved a spot in my worst of 2008 list. 3/10.

Well this is my first film news blog, so some of this news isn't just from today.
****Well Comingsoon.net is reporting that George Lucas is up for a fifth Indiana Jones film. In an interview he said "If I can come up with another idea that they like, we'll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn't that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one"
We'll see were this goes, and if it holds up. Looking at the box office results of the recent installment I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't end up happening, but all I can say is, let Indy die. Why? Because at some point you'll see Indy 10, and it wont even by Harrison Ford any more, who is the only reason to even watch any of the Indy films.

****Next up is...Thundercats: The Movie...OH YEAH!!!...wait, wtf?
Yes that is right, not only is a Thundercats film in the making, but one of the actors close to the film is...Tyrese Gibson (this movies must be great! *facepalm*)
Yes, apparently he is involved in bringing this film to the big screen, maybe to add to his list of "Beloved Childhood Cartoons to Money making Films". Not much is known about the film, or if or which character he will play.

**** In some of the most disappointing news I have heard all week, It has been announced that a I Am Legend Prequel maybe be produced, and to add, Will Smith might be willing to return....but why?
( ^^ "OMG!! Its being reported that Im willing to do another I Am Legend film...wtf, I wanted Pursuit of Happyness 2: Now That I Can Make Money I Want To Exploit It")
Dont get me wrong, I found I Am Legend to be entertaining and fun to watch...but that's it. I was disappointed by the fact that it didn't hold true to the book and took more of an action route, rather then the psychological approach it should have taken. But now to here that they want a prequel, which was basically done in small bits in the first film, it doesn't make sense. What do they plan of talking about? The spread of the disease? Do they expect to show about 3 years worth of events in this film to explain how we got to the first?

**** And to end I will leave you with a trailer, for the upcoming film "W" by Oliver Stone.
***sry, I cant embed the video, damn lol...****
I don't know how it will turn out, many hate Stone, myself, I don't mind his work. All i know is this film is sure to anger most.
