Firstly, hey Binks, how the hell are ya?

Now to business at hand.  Sure, there were quite a few omissions and additions, but I feel that if they left the mining out and replaced it with something else, more fun or left it out all together, I don't think many people would protest it, nor would it be game breaking.  It seemed like a terrible design choice that left a very ugly blemish, on what otherwise was an excellent game from beginning to end.  If they didn't want you to break the economy by having access to all the upgrades at the beginning, perhaps a less offensive way to do that would be to pace the upgrades as they did the experience.   What do you think?

So, I just finished ME 2 recently, and I found that the story, fiction, and dialogue all to be well written.  Also, the changes from ME 1 were welcome.  All of them except for one, the mining.  Being that the game's been out a while now, I've seen all the reviews about it, and all mentioned that the mining was a bit boring, but easy to overlook.  That IMO, is the understatement of the year.  If it wasn't for the satisfying story and interesting characters, it would be game breaking.  I know it was done in lieu of the Mako, but wow, it's almost as if the designer who brought us the Mako, thought, "oh, so fans aren't crazy about my Mako idea, eh?",  sat down with utter contempt in his heart and set to work on the mining aspect of ME 2.  That part makes me want to tear my hair out.  Am I alone in this?  It was crazy how terrible it was and how much it was given an overwhelming pass by most of the media.  It felt as if we were misled by all the comments.  It was like saying, getting hit by a bus is going to sting just a "little".

Perhaps it's just me, but I find that PS3 enthusiasts, or fanboys, to use a derisive term, to be the most vocal, clamoring behind thier champion and sneering at the competition.  It's almost as if they're bitter for some reason.  I don't quite understand it, but if you strip away all the emotion, sure, the PS3 is a good system, but guess what?  So is the Xbox 360.   They just have thier strengths and weaknesses.  Looking at them from a game perspective, probably a wash as most titles (minus exclusives) end up on both systems.  So lets look at the other features.

The online service, most would call it a win in the 360 category, as the PS3 is playing catchup and isn't quite there yet.  The only issue people have with Xbox live is the cost.  The online features and the way it elegantly integrates them into the games and other services, could arguably be the best on the market.  Far from perfect (still kinda clunky in terms of loading up the blades and execution) but still far superior than anything out there right now.

Now, for the quality of the system themselves.  Poor, poor Xbox 360, you were a troubled fellow.  From the red rings to the E74 errors, you had all the earmarks of a troubled youth.  Yet, your parents, (Microsoft) knew about your problems but never told your schoolmates, neighbors or anyone else that you affected.  Yeah, the 360 has its issues, alledgedly corrected at this point, but even so it seems a little late in the game.  3 years in before they "fixed" the issues?  I'd call that a big win in the PS3's dept.  When a friend called me, telling me his 360 red ringed, first, I welcomed him to the party (I've had 3 systems reparied) secondly, when he told me he was thinking about buying a PS3 instead of the $100 to repair his 360, I told him it might not be such a bad idea.  It probably would last him longer.

And then there's blu-ray.  Well, 360 doesn't have a leg to stand on.  Need I say more?

In summary, if you have a 360 and are upset about the Live subscription fee, then by all means, go buy a PS3.  But instead of paying $50, you just paid $300+ to avoid the problem.  I'd call that the long way around the issue.  Personally, I think both systems have something to offer gamers.  I'd suggest owning both if feasible, however, for those who can only afford one, pick the one works for you, i.e. if blu-ray's important to you and you don't already own one, PS3 has your back.  If exclusives are a devisive factor, then go with the system that has the most appealing titles.  In the age of online gaming, I'd recommend going with the system your friends have, so you can play with them.  Probably the most important factor IMO, since gaming makes one a recluse enough as it is, the way I see it, you may as well do it with friends.

 @RetroIce4:
Funny you should say that.  I, too had a bad experience with skull candy buds.  I bought the first pair (around $29) and a few months later, one of the ear buds stopped working.  If I worked the wire around at the base of the jack I could get it to work but only if I held it that way.  So I thought, "Maybe I yanked on em too hard and seperated a connection"  and bought another pair, which just recently had the same thing happen to them.  So now I'm trying to decide if I should contact Skullcandy and request that they replace them, if they even have a warranty or just buy a new set altogether.  In terms of sound quality and noise reduction, they were fantastic.  But having 2 pairs develop the same problem makes me leary to recommend them to anyone.

In any case, I recommend doing some research: a google search. consumer's report or cnet comparison before making a purchase.  In this case, the phrase, "Buyer Beware"  jumps adequately to mind.

Update: I wanted to mention that Skullcandy buds have a lifetime warranty and will be replaced free of charge due to defects or will give you 50% off if you shred them in some unseemly accident. For those interested, here's the Url: http://rma.skullcandy.com/

Most of what you see is very carefully planned, staged and executed.  Have you noticed all his shows go something like this:  Bear gets dropped off, he climbs something high, goes into a hole and eats something gross.  His locations, pathway to "civilization", caves, etc are all plotted ahead of time.  And as far as the death defying stunts go?  There's one episode last season where he was going to attempt to walk across a log bridge but he kicks the log out from under him, trying to make it look like an accident and was holding on to the cliffside for dear life.  Funny part:  You get a glimpse of the tether he was holding on to.  Bad edit or maybe they only had 1 take.

Why does he eat such unspeakably disgusting things?  Ratings.  In a way, he's a modern day  jack-ass for the tough man.   He eats food they bring with them.  And really that brings me to the only thing that makes me mad about the show:  I hate when he kills an animal and only eats 1 bite and says: "Oh, this is good, this will give me energy"  You know he tosses the rest of the animal away which is a crime.  Then he eats the big macs in the camera man's backpack.

I still watch the show but its kinda like wrestling, you know its fake but some people still can enjoy it.  (though wrestling is not my cup of tea)

I'd be careful watching this though, as I've heard it will cause more than a few DVRs to RROD. ;)

Seriously though, this thread is kinda pointless.  It's all a matter of opinion.  May as well discuss politics and religion while you're at it.  Some people love CoD, some don't.  I don't think this thread will change any hearts or minds.

Ryan, being  the most articulate and his opinions closest to mine (agree with 95% of what he says) about games.  Guess it'd be him.
