Good games based of Anime

I noticed that in vodeo games, a ton of games are based of anime and some of them are good while others can use some work.

So is there any good games that are based off the anime? & Do they make to much games based off them like Dragon Ball Z having like a million games or Naruto for that matter.

Still I am curious to know what games are good that are based on anime like Bleach, DBZ, Naruto, etc.

Isn't using good and anime in the same sentence sort of an oxymoron?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

The Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games are awesome, shallow, stylish fun.

The latest Bleach game was a Dynasty Warriors clone, maybe you're into that.

I recently discovered a MUGEN emulation of the Fist of the North Star fighting game made by Arc Systems for the PS2 that was only released in Japan. It's pretty good, and I normally hate Arc System games. It's fairly simple to play too, 4 buttons and all the commands seem to be quarter-circles.

I quite enjoyed that Naruto game from a couple of years ago, Rise of a Ninja.

Not played one since then but they still seem good. DBZ games have a weird history, some being terrible and others being amazing, Budokai 2 remains one of my favorite PS2 games. Not sure about any others, as far as anime goes I only really know the 'mainstream' stuff.

If we are going to be honest most of the games bassed on anime is pretty crappy because we are not the demographic. So the latest games from japan is One Piece Kaizoku Musou which is a dynasty warriors game even made by the same dudes and then you got Moible Suit Gundam UC which is a mecha game with the same game mechanics as ACE:R also its made by the guys who made dark/demon's souls, so its a god dam shame that this game will never hit the west.

Astro Boy: Omega Factor on the GBA. That game was made by Treasure, so no surprise it was great.

As usual, the answer to all questions is Super Robot Wars.

Any specific ones you would recommend? There are a lot of those games, many only out in Japan.

I am not qualified to answer this. I did like Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, though.

Edit: Actually Jump Ultimate Stars was really fun too if you're into those series.

Other than Dragonball Z Budokai 3, I haven't heard of any anime games receiving much praise.

But a lot of people thus far have admitted to enjoying some anime games, so maybe there are some worth playing. You could count Pokemon, but that's an anime based on a video game and not the other way around.

ZONE OF THE ENDERS!!

This game is more or less a beat-em-up in mid-air with a tonne o lasers. It looks stupidly good considering it came out in 2001 right before Metal Gear Solid 2. I didn't even know it was an anime for years.

Also this video is of a boss fight, the rest of the game's a little more dynamic than this.

Does Sonic count at this point since there was that OVA and X? No? Well then never mind... There were a few good Yu-Gi-Oh games released a few years back. I can't attest to any of the newer ones though because I played one for the DS for a few minutes and didn't care all that much for it. I am a tad intrigued in that new one for the 3DS though.

Out of all of them, only Original Generations 1 and 2 on the GBA has ever had an official US release.  However, SRW J (for the GBA) and SRW @Gaiden for the PS1 both have fan translations out.  I heavily recommend the latter.

Which is what Pokemon is based off which inspired the original designs for Transformers.

Naruto: Rise of a Ninja was pretty incredible especially if you're just starting out on the anime the game was amazing for an 07 release, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 was also really good. One of my favorite anime game was probably Mobile Suit Gundam seed: Battle Assault 3 for the PS2 was incredible playing that with freinds.

This, they are an awesome rent. I played the last one and completed the single player in two days (very short) and had a blast.

Oh, I also remember a IGPX video game being shown on toonami for the PS2. It looked pretty damn good from what I saw. Also, I guess the game was hard as fucking hell from reviewers on amazon.

Afro Samurai was a surprisingly fun game.  I'd say it is a solid 3 Star game which features an awesome combat system that focuses on decapitation and a kick ass sound track from the RZA.  Fair warning the game is hard and the boss fights can be frustrating.

Also seconding Astro Boy: The Omega Factor for the GBA.  One of my favorite Treasure games.

I remember liking Ghost in The Shell for the PS1 but I have to imagine that it has aged horrible.

I only know games that have already been mentioned, but I'll go over them anyway.

  • Jump Ultimate Stars: This was the very first game I imported, it has a TON of playable characters from different shonen jump series such as NARUTO, Bleach, DBZ, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Gintama, D.Grayman, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fist of The North Star, Busou Renkin etc. etc. etc. One thing to note is that you're going to need a guide to play it unless you know Japanese.
  • Bleach DS: The second one, Dark Souls, is most recommended since it has more characters, from the third game on they are not made by Treasure anymore and became some sort of weird TRPG, I don't know if those were any good. I got the second game before the first was released in the west and I'd say that if you were a fan of the Japanese voices, it's pretty easy to play through the import with a guide.
  • Dragon ball Z Budokai 3: It doesn't have the most content in the way of characters by far, but it had one of the best models for balancing abilities for the different characters, and a lot of side stuff in the main game that was worth seeing. I'm still able to look back with nostalgia at my evil Babidi's Mind Control + Senzu Bean combo.
  • Astro Boy: The Omega Factor: A pretty good game from what I can remember. Replayability is a key factor here since the story is sort of repeating events, Groundhog Day style, until you reach the final ending. I wasn't all that familiar with Osamu Tezuka's work before this but it seems like a lot of his characters make appearances here.
  • The Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games: I've only played the first one and the single player story mode could be kind of a grind and wasn't all that fun. But as far as anime fighting games go it's pretty much all I wanted: Combat that's not too broken to be enjoyed with a friend, a great look with lots of characters from the series, and plenty, plenty of great fanservice.

I'd say most games based on anime are probably pretty crappy, as it is with any licensed property, and even those that are 'good' or better still often require you to be a fan of the original product to really enjoy them.

That game is awesome!

I've never watched an episode of Naruto, but I picked up Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 on the cheap last week and it's a pretty sweet game so far. Maybe not the deepest, but I like the fighting system and damn if it isn't gorgeous.
