Games I've Finished: '11 Edition

List items

  • Whipping feels good and the locales look amazing. The backtracking in order to get upgrades annoyed me, but I imagine it always will in any situation. Also, man, that epilogue makes me want a sequel bad.

  • I find the idea of an episodic Dead Rising far more palatable than a full game. It just gets kinda boring in one big area. For whatever reason, I liked Case Zero more than Case West though. Also, not being able to pick Chuck or Frank seems like a pretty big downer.

  • Interesting combat mechanics, though I'm not entirely certain what the plot was supposed to be. Might speedrun a second playthrough at a later date for the last couple of trophies.

  • Considering parts had me giggling like an idiot, I think the job of this game got accomplished.

  • Single tear for John Marston. Actually went out of my way to get the 100% completion even.

  • Well, they certainly weren't kidding about making rogues and warriors more powerful to make up for the whole mage dominance of the first offering. Powered my way through it in a weekend, and my 2-hander warrior felt like a badass while doing it.

  • Well, they got rid of the shitty qte laden boss battles of its predecessor, so that was certainly a step in the right direction. I thought it was fun, though the story seems like it ends fairly abruptly.

  • Man, this game is an abusive dick sometimes, but still pretty fun to play for like an hour or so before bed.

  • Pretty weird game, especially when it devolves into a black screen with large white text and you can still manage to get a game over while trapped in said text adventure. It took me about 40 hours to finish all the sidequests.

  • Fun, but I had a hell of a time with the touchscreen crap for finishing off bosses. Slightly disappointed in myself for only getting a little over 50% of the souls, but the soul eater ring was still over 100k away from being purchased.

  • Parts of this game are really cool, like customizing your wanzer. The wanzer combat was fine, but the on foot stuff left something to be desired. I played through the game on hard, which wasn't so bad until Vritra, where things got out of control. Being one-shotted by a boss with no checkpoints between phases is kind of a dick move. I mean, I did it...eventually, but it ceased to be fun at some point and just became a grudge on my part to not let the machine beat me.

  • Took me about 40 hours doing all the sidequests I found. I did miss one of the hidden bosses in act 2 though. Anyway, I liked the speed of the combat and I felt that the voiced main character really added a lot to the experience. The Mass Effect 2 style streamlining didn't really do the game any favors though. Act 3 also made me pretty much just want to kill everyone and sit on a throne made out of the corpses of the entire city just for being retarded.

  • Finished the game on hard. Timer says just under 5 hours, but that's largely because I usually quit to the title screen to not lose my weapon levels. Shooting feels great, and sliding around is fun too. Really wish I could've shut off the auto bullet time though.

  • Oh, the huge manatee. I'm going to finish these before my spring break is up. Telltale makes a mean bite-sized game though.

  • Woah, that one was heavy compared to the other 3.

  • Oh that tricksy voodoo lady. Wonder what other things she has in store? Enjoyable season overall. Though the last two seemed more involved than the others.

  • While never one for verbosity, all I can say about this game is, "Holy shit, that was awesome." I think it washed the taste of Dragon Age 2 out of my mouth.

  • Gameplay is pretty much the same, though the major change comes from having multiple playable characters which are have some unique heat moves and weapon usage. The narrative, as usual, is the strongest point in the game, which manages to tie together events going as far back as the first game and delving more into the world and characters. I put in about 75 hours, and there's still some challenges left to mop up (well, except minigames, fuck that one sideways).

  • Neat little game, though it does get ridiculously savage near the end.

  • This has been sitting in my steam unfinished list for a while now. The story was entertaining and the gameplay wasn't bad either. I take that back, beating the end boss without healing items isn't as bad as it seems if you're more diligent with debuffing than I usually am.

  • A shame this series got cancelled, since these games were pretty fun. I guess I'm part of the problem though since I only bought it when it was 5 bucks on steam for the pair of them.

  • Pretty cute adventure game, and entirely devoid of yiffing even though it's populated entirely by anthropomorphic dogs.

  • Man, that ending seemed like a dick move if they never put out another one. Good thing 2 is on the way then, I guess.

  • Man, after all the telltale adventure games this felt hard as shit. I think some of that had to do with not knowing if something was clickable until you got within range of it.

  • I really liked L.A. Noire, I even got the platinum for it. Tracking down that Lincoln Zephyr touring was dicks though.

  • Chapter 3 was kind of a let down, but I think that's generally more to blame of trying to put too many branch points into a storyline. I enjoyed my time with it, but I don't know if I want to bother checking out the paths right now.

  • So, I pre-ordered III and got the free single player versions of Dungeon Siege I and II, and just finished the first a few seconds ago. Took some doing to get it working on win7, and upon killing the end boss it just dumped me back to the menu screen, so a little buggy. I ended up turning it to easy near the end because I just didn't have the heart to manage 8 inventories in a loot driven game.

  • If you liked inFamous, it's a pretty safe bet that you'd like inFamous 2 as well, since it's pretty much the same other than some new powers and a city that actually has a color palette. Finished as a hero on medium, and infamous on hard. I almost felt kinda bad with the Nix and Zeke stuff near the end. Also, I have a distinctly pro-hellfire rocket agenda.

  • Found a pristine copy at gamestop for 5 bucks so I picked it up. It's a little clunkier than the sequel, but still pretty enjoyable. Nothing like clubbing some hobos with a steam pipe to start your day. Trying to figure out which chapter I missed a bird is kind of a pain though seeing as I got all the silver bird awards.

  • While I generally don't care for tower defense games at all, this was rad. Who knew all it took was adding saluting and giant robots with crazy machine guns. The only thing that'd really make it better would be some ps1 warhawk cluster missiles and a horde mode. Might try the multiplayer out some this weekend.

  • Mostly somber and inoffensive game. Immortality was pretty depressing though the ending was kinda cute I guess. Having no way to avoid random battles or quickly exit a dungeon was a huge pain in the ass though.

  • It's like fast paced Resident Evil 4 with dick jokes. I imagine you'll know if you're into that or not from that sentence alone. The soundtrack is also amazing. I also find myself wanting to play it again, which is a pretty ringing endorsement from me.

  • Finished this up, next time not playing on Hardened. I am also enamored with the way Captain Price says helicopter.

  • Man, this was fun but I could've lived without the whole "now beat the previous levels on legendary to advance!" thing. It was also the first time in a while I could actively feel myself getting better at a game. That last level is chaos and the "FUCK YEAH!" I let out when I dropped the end boss felt fantastic.

  • Entertaining so far, though I'm feeling kind of dumb for missing that there was, in fact, an antenna on the roof to grab to get the keys. Stared right at the bastard too, but never though to mouse over it. Anyway, having recently watched Back to the Future, I thought a lot of the voice acting was really spot on, especially Marty. I think the Tannens' were the only ones that didn't jive so far. Also, maybe it's just me, but 30's ladies hairdo's are kinda hot.

  • Shame about the multiplayer being fucked up because I thought the game was pretty fun to play through. I mean, what's the point of getting awesome red glowy sword and spaulders if I can't show them off to someone I know? Actually, it wouldn't matter because I don't know anyone else that bought Dungeon Siege III. I also thought it was weird that it played way better with a gamepad.

  • I really like killing myself with that cannon. Anyway, the game is pretty rad all around. Just need to finish New Game+ and I should have my 10th S-rank.

  • Wasn't really into it, but I imagine the story kind of falls apart if you're not really into either of the girls. Also, I thought the controls and camera could be incredibly ass-tastic at times.

  • I don't really like platforming, but it was free. I can see why people complained about the controls though, since it seems like a case of style over function. Neat idea though.

  • Sunday afternoon trifecta completed. After playing 2 games with controls I really didn't enjoy, going back in to mop up the time attack in Pac-man felt pretty great. This game is like drugs in that it is both addictive and terribly satisfying in short bursts. If I ever made my cocktail/coffee table gaming rig a reality, this would be a permanent feature.

  • That chest behind a door I couldn't open will haunt me forever.

  • I finished the main story in Oblivion! Yeah, that's right, it totally does have a main story. I also finished the quest lines for the Dark Brotherhood, Mage and Fighter Guilds, Arena and the Knights of the Nine. Thieves guild was the only main quest line I skipped. Anyway, I liked it better this time around, but all the mods might have helped. Using that Oscuro Overhaul was pretty savage in the beginning, but then I got Umbra and everything got worked. If Skyrim is as interesting as Shivering Isles and the Dark Brotherhood questline, it should be pretty rad.

  • PS3 version. The game is ridiculous, but in a way I can totally get behind. The most frustrating part is generally not being able to punish the bosses enough for blown moves, especially when they're getting hit over 100 times in order to defeat them.

  • So, other than the boss battles I thought the game was pretty rad. I am totally pro-transhumanism though.

  • Man, that's a hell of an upgrade from Breath of Death VII. Better graphics and music, plus side dungeons and a lot of bonus modes I'm probably not going to touch. Still, it makes me interested to see what they'll do with Penny Arcade episode 3.

  • Man, the shit that happens in this game is fucking bananas. It's like some sort of Michael Bay movie without the double bonus of ruining my childhood memories. It does make me wonder what the hell can possibly happen in MW3 that can top it, especially since a lot of the creative team split after the whole Activision thing.

  • So it's hi-def Rez, and takes a little over an hour to get through on normal. The sad part being it'd probably be less if you didn't need more stars to unlock the higher level archives. All the downers aside, it's a real treat for the senses but I'm not really into memorizing the patterns necessary for 100% purification. I'll probably run through the levels on hard once to get my 20 bucks worth though.

  • Nothing more terrifying than multiple Tannens. I like the implications to where the next episode will lead as well.

  • This plays like a Zelda game back from when I gave a shit about Zelda games, so Link to the Past era. I thought it was pretty fun, but the final dungeon really left a rotten taste in my mouth and soured my experience with it. The Dark tower is just a rooms copied and pasted from the previous temples and you have to fight all the bosses over again, really? REALLY?! Dark gods should obviously have better decor.

  • I think I like shooting dudes in the throat a little too much. I like the arcade feel to the game. It makes it more than about wholesale slaughter, it makes it about whole sale slaughter with style.

  • The campaign seemed a lot easier on hardcore this time around, possibly due to not immediately dying when downed. That didn't happen in Gears 2 did it? It's been a while. The story wraps up as melancholy tinged with a bit of hope. Also, I still love chainsawing dudes, go figure.

  • I know the game isn't good, but I got all 1000 points for it anyway. I just...really love Fist of the North Star.

  • Looks like a greater story line has been revealed.

  • I think I'm ready to climax.

  • I would dare call the ending cute and I thought the Michael J. Fox cameo was pretty good too. Hell, they even got Back in Time for the end credits. I can't help but be curious as to what leather and spikes Marty's future was like.

  • Finished story mode, still going to be working on challenge tower and arcade for plenty of time to come though. This probably has the most coherent story ever produced in a fighting game, though it seemed kind of anti-climactic when almost everyone gets wiped out in the third act. My only other complaint is generally how you have to fight to beat Shao Kahn and the shokan dudes that magically shrug off damage. You already have my money, guys. I don't have to keep pumping quarters in for you to make money.

  • This has literally been in my psp since it came out in like March. That's probably damning enough as it is, but it seems like they spent more time coming up with that disintegrating clothes thing than a coherent plot.

  • Fun hack and slash, though I kind of wish there was some sort of difficulty between easy and normal.

  • I'm guessing it never passed cert for steam since it locks up for no apparent reason frequently. Once I got past that though, I thought the story was interesting. The shooting segments were kind of weird, but won easily enough. I was totally into the aesthetics.

  • Hey, this Batman game is like the previous Batman game, which is to say it's pretty rad. There are way too many Riddler trophies and I got them all. My self loathing knows no bounds.

  • By itself, the game is awesome, but I can't help but be a little disappointed. Not with the quality of the game or anything, but more in the fact that all the super cool moments were pretty much spoiled in various demos I watched for the game over the course of previews and the like. I guess I'll just have to go on information blackout mode in the event of another one.

  • Just mopping up shouts and daedric quests at this point and hoping to get to 50 in the process. I think they really nailed the character building and the main questline was interesting. I think the Thieves guild wins out over the Dark Brotherhood this time, well, if you don't count all the reloading to get jobs in a specific city. I think the civil war stuff cut a little short though. Hey, we took another city, guess we'll have to worry about those damn, dirty elves later. Now if only Bethesda would take their fat Skyrim and Fallout money to make an open world cyberpunk rpg, I'd be all over it.

  • The writing was pretty great and the ending was crazy enough. I just wish there were more "escape" parts and less testing chamber parts because that's where I think Portal is the most fun.

  • Basically, it's zombie Borderlands. I imagine it'd be equal parts fun and exhausting to play it with friends. I thought it had a pretty interesting take on first person melee combat as well. Guns didn't feel so great, but I didn't really take any perks to make them better either.

  • I thought it was pretty interesting and I haven't played a Lara Croft based anything since Tomb Raider 2. I wish ranged characters in games like Diablo played like Lara does.

  • I felt compelled to kill the kid in as many ways as possible so as to not have the animations go to waste. Yeah, that's why I died so much. That hidden level was like a non-stop string of dick moves in total darkness.

  • For a game that probably shouldn't have existed, it felt aggressively okay. The shooting was improved, at least compared the original and I think the weapon upgrading helped with that a lot.

  • I have to say, this game is equal parts busted and amazing. Had to power through a lot of crashes on the pc to get through it though.

  • There are some interesting ideas and I think the story worked out better than Indigo Prophecy did. Other than the motion stuff though, all the qtes just seemed like random button pressing that needed to happen for the sake of having something to do. Also, the movement controls were super weird.

  • After 9 years or so I finally got around to finishing this. There's some awesome stuff happening, but it's also wrapped in a layer of tedium that makes it difficult to get into. You never really think about it when you're in it, but it's pretty amazing to see how far graphics capabilities have come since this came out.

  • Pretty sure my brains are left all over the floor after that last mission. Holy fuck, that's awesome.

  • Yeah, that's more Puzzle Agent all right. Seemed way easier than the first one too.
