I just finished up Ni No Kuni 2 and that caught me off-guard with it's quality.

I would second this. I really couldn't get into the first one and, despite its wonderful Ghibli animation, the story/characters never grabbed me. But Ni No Kuni 2 swept me up with its cast and story. The battle system was also fun for the whole game whereas most RPG's lose me with the monotony of the combat.

I liked the airship in Ni No Kuni II. It felt good to fly, was super fast, and it made traveling around the overworld really streamlined in a way that I wish more games did.

I own a pro controller and I have to say, it's really the only way to play in docked mode. My hands get very unhappy when I use the joycons with the grip accessory. The lack of a proper D-pad doesn't really bother me, it's more the rectangular shape of the whole get-up. Monster Hunter XX plays really nicely on a good controller.

Neverwinter Nights has to be the game that is most influential to my tastes. I played it very early in my life and it was my first exposure to the Forgotten Realms and DnD in general. It scultped who I am. I am Neverwinter Nights. Ehh maybe it's Dota 2. Oblivion was really good too. Shit, man I don't know.

So, I ended up down a path tonight watching various reaction videos to the ending of LiS and I ended up watching a bunch of Pewdiepie's play through and I was surprised when he was actually really uncharacteristically quiet through a lot of the more poignant moments.

Also, every time I watch those parts it gets me again every time. Goodamn it Dontnod.

This is me too.

Also several albums in my collection now have tracks with heightened emotions due to the association with the LiS soundtrack.

Yeah I have been playing through the game again just to see the other dialogue choices and to take some screenshots for desktop wallpapers. I have to say the whole thing is even more effective the second time around. The songs hit twice as hard and those episode ending montages are filled with just a ton of emotion, episode two especially. I have watched Max hug her knees and cry at the end of Ep. 5 about four times and have cried each time. This game man, I mean really, this game.

There's a petition being advertised in the Steam forums for Dontnod to produce a "satisfactory" ending or at the very least more content. It almost has 4000 signatures.

Ugh, that's such a disgusting insult to Dontnod and the game they already gave us. I hope they ignore that shit. People make me sick.

I mean, uh... what were they expecting? A finale where you take on the tornado?

Wait, so what am hearing is if i sign that petition, they'll add an additional ending option where Max punches the tornado?... hmm... that is tempting... i do like the current ending (well, it would be nice if the save Chloe ending was longer or had other people in it), but punching a tornado sounds awesome.

I feel like that's pretty much the point of the save Chloe option. Max just sacrificed Arcadia Bay, of course she wouldn't go to the diner to see who might have made it, or went to that busted up building to see if Alyssa fell down that hole and died (lol). She doesn't care, she saved Chloe and wants to get as far away as possible. There's a reason the movie The Graduate ends with the two riding away together in the bus, the rest is up to you and your imagination

@razzuel: Yeah some people are real demons, probably a 1:1 comparison of people who signed that petition to people who are still hunting for hidden content on r/neverbegameover. I agree with some of the people here saying that the stealth sequence was a little long (I still liked the section), but that's really the only thing I have to say about episode 5. Maybe I've got blinders on but I was completely into the endings, both of them.

@bisonhero: Midichlorians tear down and build upon a whole trilogy of lore, while The Philosophy of Time Travel is practically the entire basis of the movie. If you want to ignore the director's cut of Donnie Darko, exactly how I and a whole bunch of others kicked midichlorians to the curb, that's fine. You can even ignore the allusions to Donnie Darko that exist in Life is Strange. I'm not even sure what you're getting at with your post. On its own, the game holds a very personal and beautiful story. That being said there's no reason Life is Strange can't be discussed on the surface level and a deeper level in the same thread.

@dudeglove:

The problem (if this is even a problem) is that in comparison to Donnie Darko, the point was that Donnie Darko toyed with with the notion of the observer effect, in that Donnie was both witness to and root cause of the events. Life is Strange splits that role between Max and Chloe. Max is the one who observes and acts to save Chloe's life (and at this point we should wonder upon replaying the game from the first episode we should try not intervening at all), but Chloe is the one who has to die, and not Max (even though she's the one who intervened).

By doing nothing in either the film or the game i.e. Donnie not sleepwalking out of his bed and subsequently getting a piece of metal through his chest, thereby never meeting Gretchen (that's her name), nor outing Swayze as the creepy sex offender etc.; and Max literally not observing Chloe's death, instead cowering away from it, and subsequently never bringing about the destruction of Arcadia due to her meddling with time, both things sort of achieve the same end.

I think much like Donnie, Chloe is being manipulated. Donnie wasn't the root cause of the end of the world, he was drawn away from the Artifact (the trans-dimensional jet engine) by Frank. Chloe didn't save herself, Max did. Donnie can't travel through time but Frank is the manipulated dead and even asks Donnie if "[he believes] in time travel". This is much like Max, specifically the scene in the diner where Max convinces Chloe that she can manipulate time. There is a term in DD called the "ensurance trap", a scenario that is set up by the manipulated dead (Frank in this case) that forces the living receiver (Donnie) into righting the world's wrongs. Frank is there to make sure Donnie returns the Artifact to its rightful universe (by dying with it). Max ensures Chloe's death, and therefore the safety of Arcadia bay, by jumping into the picture and letting Nathan shoot her. I'm not sure what the Artifact would be in Life is Strange, if it even has one, probably the butterfly?

I do think the role of Donnie is split between Max and Chloe, but very unevenly. For example in DD, Donnie is plagued by dreams of his universe's death and in LiS this is put on Max's shoulders. Donnie knows the world will end like Max does. The game is not 1:1 to the film, of course, but it does share some obvious commonalities. Mostly in the characters and how they interact and influence each other.

PS: Chloe sucks
