  • First Reaction: "All I can say is wow."

Now that I've had some time away from it, I think I now know how to distil what I feel about Uncharted 4 down to words. This game reminds me what "growing up" really is. I can't say much more without spoilers, but I will say that that's a theme which few other games address, and no game of this type has ever addressed as well before.

In the midst of all the crazy shit going on, real people problems are at the heart of this in a way that it feels like they should be in more things. Because of that, I felt closer to some of the characters in Uncharted 4 than any other game bar Persona 4, The Last of Us and Mass Effect 2. When things happen to them, you feel it in your guts. You feel heart break, despair, love, sadness, joy - all through empathy with what is happening on screen. At the core of it, it's all about relationships.

Oh, and it almost goes without saying to anyone else who's finished this game, that Uncharted 4 made me feel awe unlike any other game. Through a combination of best-in-class graphics and art design, the environments, set pieces, etc, etc, etc, are unlike anything else. Very few games inspire true awe and this is absolutely the highest among them.

  • Souls games. The last one of the series is preeeetty darn good - having explored every area and beaten every boss, it's probably my 2nd favourite Souls game after DS1.

I'm going to miss these games. I mean, I'm not going to miss that there's been a new one every year, but I'm going to miss them nonetheless.

  • THE best Pokemon game since Red/Blue and the first game in the series where I actually grew attached to the cast of characters. Was the story great? No, but what's there is so far ahead of where these games have been in the past. Heck, it was good enough for me to actually want a direct sequel!

I'm SO happy they finally modernised the series and MAN I can't wait till Stars.

  • Some seriously amazing level design and an overall fantastic game which is brought back by its unfulfilling plot. I liked this game a bunch, but it feels as if they MGSVed it (feels like a lot is on the cutting room floor).

  • A great game held back by bugs/crashes/performance. I'd even call it excellent if it had better controls and more options (more upgrade trees for gear, etc).

  • I love everything about the single player of DOOM, but just haven't been in the mood to finish it...

  • The plot is worse than even FE: Awakening, and that's kinda sad.

The gameplay is sweet, though. (seems like a trend this year...)

  • I wish there were fewer "figure out where you need to stand for the answer to be given to you" puzzles - the logic ones, though, were amazing.

That said, I HATE the plot and everything to do w/ the audiologs.
