@nameredacted: Pretty much nailed it. I really want some of those 3rd party Nintendo controllers, they look sweet so I probably wouldn't play my Switch with JoyCons enough to experience the drift. But perception will be reality and I'm not trying to live like that. Also, I don't like the dinky little flap they have for games. It seems cheap.

@bollard: Well if they announce some kind of compensation. I would probably buy one in the store same day. It's like going out to buy Cyberpunk once they announce refunds were becoming available. I guess I want to hear more about what you want. 2 Free Joycons? $60 in eshop credit? Etc.

So I'm on the verge of buying a Switch. I'm traveling more for work and I can't count on hotel TVs allowing hdmi access so Xbox and PS5 are out) I'm waiting for some class action stuff to come out. Think: If i could just start using PSN on April 17th 2011 (Great PSN Hack) and get my personal information hacked on PSN I could get inFamous for free making a foible quite fun and lucrative.

So the Joycons are a mess. Have always been a mess. They are acknowledged by Nintendo as a mess. But they have yet to face any government consequence. Everybody is quite content and happy despite the Joycon drift, but this won't last. I'm wondering what they will do when it comes time to replace joycons. What will Switch Lite users get? How many free nintendo games and gold coins do i get? Ambassador program? Price drop? I'm trying to time this.

I used to work at a movie theatre. Did so for about 13 years. Without those movie releases as landmarks I don't quite know what I was doing with my life. With backlog (and more importantly achievements. ahem Nintendo) I can quantitatively know what I was doing with my life and can reflect on experiences had. Even though the real memory has faded. These are feelings I must have had. The Poseidon Adventure was the first movie I saw in theatres for free as an employee. Back to the Future the first movie I can recall walking out of a theatre. Terminator 2 where i discovered what "too much of a good thing" (popcorn salt) tasted like.

But gaming outside of knowing i picked up a psp on launch day from Walmart or going into try a Wii for the first time and loving Excite Truck but feeling underwhelmed by Zelda doesn't resonate with me in the same way. I owned an Xbox One before a Wii because of this experience. Going into stores and buying games resonates with me much more than the experience of playing games. Outside of PUBG, I struggle to recall many moments in games. All the turns in Burnout would be a surprise to me. So i just buy games. I'm like the billionaire that plays low-stakes games. I'm there for the ambience. I hold no regard for my digital backlog. But my physical back log. Those get my full attention or at least booted up. Achievements are kind of the reason that i even plow through a backlog. It does a good job of archiving my life as good as movies. But the games themselves. It wasn't until awesome games done quick that I saw justification in trying to pierce my backlog. Because one day someone is going to do an expose on the game (i.e. cyberpunk) and if i had played through it that 30 minute Tim Rogers video will bring back some nostalgia. I just don't have time to do it myself, by replaying games.

Kind of already living the dream. Always have. Ideally though i'd like to live somewhere that has multiple languages that i slowly begin to master so i can unlock my mind even further. A job like a Foreman where i have to speak Spanish. While living in Chinatown where i get my groceries in Chinese. Live, dream, and talk to myself (and you folks in English). Vacation in places where i stay long enough get a little competency (Finland, Iceland, and Japan). At some point someone will pay me for that knowledge. I'm already quite happy with none of that but it colors some major life decisions.

Well since i can't get my greasy paws on a dual sense to test out the controller for my self. And sense I've got a digital PS5 queued up in my cart at bestbuy (my 4th choice of next gen) it got me thinking. Where among all innovations since the NES controller does the dual sense fit in. If this were the original Wii launch and and we were in the midst of a pandemic i'd imagine people would be on AOL shouting to the rafters out motion control innovation. We know they would be filthy liars and I'm sure something similar is going on with dual dense and people are just humble bragging about something that was all the rage on the switch launch too. Something something.. how many balls. So place this piece of tech between two other pieces of innovation tech bread (i.e. n64 analog stick and kinect for 360) with no regard to chronology and let me know.. INnovation or inNOvation.

@ripelivejam: Maerio seems like a Bakalar dig. I watched #The Wizard yesterday and the announcer for gaming Armageddon does say a more Maerio than Mario. But i treat Mario 64 as more canon than The Wizard.

The practice mode in fighting games. I'm trying to get more into 2D games and work on some of the timing based gameplay those types of games require. If I ever get good at Mortal Kombat it will be because i spent time working in the training mode. It's something I should have been doing all along but I never have. Here's to new horizons.

@bigsocrates: Like i said 1/2 of the allotment goes to the wolves (so grandma who needs to recognize that Johnny has a minecraft or fortnite addiction so maybe getting him a console is bad for your bloodline and legacy can still get one). But do different contests on consoles. Get 10K gamerscore and increase your chances... etc. Right now, I have no way to secure a series x or ps5 right now. If putting up 10K gamerscore in the month of january increased my chances by 200%, 300%, or anything that is better than what is currently in place. Nothing (200% of nothing is still nothing.. oh they message board police are foaming at the mouth for that red meat). There should be defintive get 50K gamerscore get a series X- guaranteed program going on right now.

nobody is saying "botched" from a companies perspective. your tattooed brands are showing. (that's a lovely lower back Linkle)that's what is wrong with gamers. They act like stockholders. IDK maybe poaching other customers means they buy your older system and use gamepass and milk that cow for all she's worth, get that gamerscore and get their new system. If people are paying double for a system. I'm done. I need some credentials bud.
