Every Game I've Beaten (That I Remember)

So somewhere in the darkness of the late 90s, I decided that the breadth of games that I had gone through merited a list. Perhaps for absurdity's sake, perhaps to try and convince myself to kick the "childish" habit; whatever the case, I now have proof positive that I've done some dumb things in my life, I'm a proud (and old) gamer, and I wish to share that very madness with the Giantbomb community.

List items

  • Felt like it had potential then went absolutely nowhere with it. I like the SuperMassive-o-verse of it, but the decisions didn't feel under my control, and aside from a jump scare, nothing else was spooky here.

  • Like Supergiant, these guys make great games pretty much no matter what. Definitely easier and probably won't leave as large an impression as Shovel Knight, but glad they did something new.

  • Easy to get lost since it was difficult to keep track of the area names. More importantly, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK that final boss, good lord!

  • Beat that new level! Totally counts you guys...

  • Another Ori game. Nothing wrong with another pathfinder. Good, if a bit easy, especially once you get the late game abilities. If they're not gonna make more Metroids, I'm fine with these.

  • Four years later, got through this. Kind of a slog, kind of good enough to keep going. This is about as much South Park humor I want in my life these days. Still a little funnier than it should've been.

  • A remake from my 20s makes me feel old. Anyways, I 100% loved this. Didn't know this is exactly what I wanted in my life right now. Played it all in a week, loved it and impulse bought the remastered collection so I can catch up.

  • Had to let this game BREATHE before I got what was going on. Felt like aimless wandering until the pieces started to click. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was looking stuff up like crazy by the end (mostly because I have no willpower and must see games through), but it was a good, modern Myst-like. If it wasn't for the need to travel five minutes because I slipped into the sun, I would've loved it.

  • Told myself I wanted to get a picture of every pokemon. Now glad to be done having done 150-175? It just got repetitive too quickly. Get rid of the research levels and just hide stuff in the already 15 levels. Don't give me slight iterations, jeez!

  • More of the last game, maybe even better than last time? This company knows not to pad their game out. Do what you came to do and get out. Still creepy (probably creepier), and still enjoyable enough to keep me entertained.

  • This wasn't a bad game. HEAR ME OUT! It's not as good as the 2 or 3 remakes or 7 by a lot. And the story is super dumb. And the entire game was so dark it hurt my eyes. But the bosses were alright, and it kept moving. It was fine.

  • Everyone seemed so hard on this game, it turned me off. But I eventually came around and decided we should try it and loved it. Definitely better than A Way Out. And charming enough although every level was just a bit too long for its own good.

  • Cute, short, good Metroid game. Nothing else to really say about that.

  • Used the Easy Mode this time. Got to the lava worm shithead and got too frustrated to go further. But I wouldn't've finished this otherwise. And you wanted me to beat this 3+ times to get the real ending?! C'mon Iga.

  • Shockingly short for an idle clicker. Kinda disappointed that this didn't take me weeks/months of wasting my time.

  • Wouldn't have had the patience to do this without the Arcade mode. Barely got through it as it was. Not entirely due to ability (although somewhat; EFF that final boss). It's more due to the patience you would need and/or anxiety from losing so much progress from a couple of dumb moves. Well it's done finally.

  • Tried this when it first came out (a 2d souls game sounds perfect to me), but bounced hard. Half the art, half the typical daunt of one of these games. Came back to it in 2021 and loved going through it. Got super easy past the halfway point, but if you're good at Souls games and upgrade correctly, I feel like that can happen a lot. Now I'm ready for Salt and Sacrifice!

  • Chill for a bit, final boss has my pinky/right hand still tense and twitching. Cool mechanics!

  • So not as bad as I was led to believe, but also so much worse. Teases you with regenerating safe spots and lots of items, only to take that all away, then make half the game an escort mission. At least it wasn't unduly unfair.

  • Good game, enjoyed it for what it was. I liked how the bosses of the game were like a tutorial for the final boss, kind of? No way am I getting all 50 seeds for the "true" ending though.

  • Oh wow, this is WAY shorter than I thought. I knew it was a rail shooter, but an hour? I would assume the original was maybe harder than this? Still...

  • So this is a short form SotN, which is fine, if a bit easy. Beat most bosses on my first try, could've easily gotten 100% map if I felt like it, but they threw a boss rush at me, so I won't respect you either game.

  • I finally beat it (in 2021). I first played it back in 2013 or something, took me 30 hours to get to Blighttown only to get stuck because I didn't know about upgrading weapons. This time I came back, did every thing in this game and albeit with a bit of frustration, destroyed it and loved it! These are definitely my kinda games, I just needed to understand how they worked. Have II and III ready to go, probably Sekiro after that, and we'll give Nioh another shot too! Absolute gem that everyone says it is.

  • The Nextlander guys psyched me into thinking this was going to hit me more than it did. I'm not really one for these "chill" games. It was fine, just not super satisfying when all's said and done.

  • Five years late but here I am done with this one finally. Several hours in and I really wasn't feeling how this game was. I feel like I never REALLY got the intricacies of the combat, and it felt a little like a slog. I'd say 15 hours in I just turned my brain off, stopped caring too much about the lore and just went through it for it's open worldness, and ended up liking it. Didn't play the DLC, but at least I'm caught up for the sequel.

  • Cute quick game. Wasn't expecting THAT tie-in to the story, but a cute little thing.

  • This is two years old? Regardless, the guys loving this game made me want to play it. And I must say, wasn't too impressed. A little repetitive. I appreciate the freedom but it felt aimless and maybe too easy? It was pretty, I'll give you that.

  • As cute as I thought it would be, maybe a bit easier too? Four hours to do everything in it. Not complaining, just a bit of a chill breezethrough instead of any kind of challenging.

  • Just as chill/fun as the last one. Have to come to this with the right mindset, but it's its own thing and I appreciate it for that.

  • Yep, disappointing like everyone said. None of the endings were satisfying, the twist was fine but also not anything that hasn't been done recently. And the game itself was a frustrating adventure game to get to all that. Meh.

  • Good, the lore of this didn't keep me engaged at all, not sure why? Still a good game, but I simply found the mechanics to move forward and did. Decent though.

  • Wow this game was fantastic. Thought it was going to be a Castlevania III, instead I got a very intricate, well made game that was so much more than that. Really, really solid one of those.

  • Well that was a phone game I beat on my switch in an hour. It was like Rez or Feel the Magic XX/XY but not as good?

  • It was fine. I get people's frustrations with it, but it's another one of those. Honestly, I feel like it's lost its charm. Give me another NES remix I say!

  • Alright so Guitar Hero battling was as cool as it sounded. The story was quirky, then got real weird? Then didn't make any sense but was fine anyways. I did do the hard difficulty as suggested, and aside from the end, that's the way to play.

  • That was easy, except for Pete. EFFFFFF Pete.

  • Never played this back when. Super cute, love the simple controls. I was surprised it didn't final boss me either. Do this more Capcom.

  • Was not as directionless as some made it sound. Final boss was a bit of a pain for a bit there, rest of it was pretty easy really. Controls felt fine if a bit shoulder-heavy (I had to stop playing that Samus Returns remake because those were so wonky).

  • Definitely want to play more of these. I see the appeal. It's like Money Exchange Puzzler or whatever that other one is called.

  • Tetris attack? Sure!

  • Was even shorter and more linear than I had imagined! I know VR experiences are limited, but yeesh, we're back at adventure games with these things.

  • Alright, beat this one too! So I like the beat-them-enough-times system they do here, made boss runs WAY more reasonable. Didn't like the health depreciation thing, but I get it, they wanted to bring back that Demon's Souls feeling some. Felt like these bosses were rehashes of old bosses some. I hope 3 lives up to expectations. Then onto Sekiro and Elden Ring when the mood strikes me!

  • NES version. Was told it plays like the TMNT arcade game. I guess it did, but that didn't make this good or fair.

  • That sucked. I cheesed so many of these fights, and Juggernaut and Magneto were both horrible, awful unfair shits.

  • Actually not a bad game. Felt very Street Fighter EX'y. The fact that I beat it as quickly as I did tells me maybe too easy?

  • Another Sonic! That's all.

  • Played this in fits and starts. It was fine, felt good, story kinda let me down I guess? They just announced Hyper Light Drifter 2, maybe that's all I want.

  • There, I finally sat down and beat this Mega Man clone. I super hate these bosses.

  • Delightful 3D Kirby game! Gave me just enough of that feel good Kirby stuff. Love that they reveal a level objective once you've completed a run. Very smart Nintendo!

  • Finally played and beat it. Loved the Beneviento and Moreau levels, thought they were exciting and what I come to for a horror game. That werewolf den and level after were stupid ammo eating garbage and made me frustrated and anxious for bad reasons.

  • A pretty Jak and Daxter for 2022 like everyone said. It was both shorter and longer than I thought. Not bad, maybe a touch obtuse two times, and once I stopped caring about getting 100%, it lost some charm.

  • I waited a decade, but I finally bought this for $2 dollars and it's more Peggle, yo. Nothing else.

  • It's what you want, it's what you expect. Maybe too easy in one player?

  • Okay, it was fine, a bit funny, but not great. Every level felt just a bit too long, so as a whole I felt like I spent way more time with it than I wanted to. The combat was super same-y, spam specials and win. By the end, the game was even doing some stuff automatically for you! Also most of those choices felt like they did very little.

  • Ugh this game kinda sucks. Half of it felt easy or I figured out the trick, half felt like bad old 3d and I had to cheese super bad to get through. At least the final boss was cake.

  • Putting this again for the DLC. Beat it as Cuphead cuz I'm a fool. Once I get my legs back, it almost seemed a bit easier than years past.

  • I very much enjoyed the logic puzzle of this game, not so much the attempt to follow the story in it. It almost had me, but I lost the thread at some point and never recovered.

  • First half was fine, second half was impossible until I used the track-target button. Then the final boss was still a real dillhole. Got him though.

  • Very cute game that did just enough to make me feel smart most of the way through!

  • I was the kicking girl, I easily kicked everyone through the end of this. It was fine.

  • Good cute/dark Metroidvania in the vain of a lesser Hollow Knight. Did enough of that stuff for me.

  • I found out how this was the original Mario vs Donkey Kong game, and it is! It's good! Alright anyways, the SNES mouse still sucks.

  • FINALLY beat this game that was admittedly as good as people made it out to be. Better than Mario to Wario I'd say, definitely good puzzle vibes here.

  • NES version. Interesting Duck Tales thing going on here. Easier than I thought, also so obtuse. Good though!

  • I find it hard to believe I never beat this before (I probably did in an hour and don't remember), but I did it again just to be safe. Lee is always a jerk. Gotta do 4 and 5 and I'll have played them all!

  • I never beat this? I guess I skipped the ps2 era somehow. Tekken Force mode is pretty fun albeit frustrating. Heihachi is a bitch in this though.

  • Okay there, beat all the Tekkens now. That Evil Within was kinda garbage but I probably would've loved it back then. PS2 era games are kinda crap once you go back, aren't they?

  • This is one of the few games to get the Dark Souls/roguelite formula right! Just challenging enough to be frustrating if you're trying to brute force it, but also so intensely satisfying when you unlock a shortcut or see yourself getting better against the bosses. Seems like I had an easier time than most with the game; only aged a couple years each level after a couple of days of playing. Felt like Neo in this bitch.

  • Well that was a dumb Tekken clone. Just switch up your highs and lows and you're fine! Quest Mode is super dumb.

  • Cyclops is Guile/Ryu. Magneto wasn't as M. Bison as they could've made him. Throws are OP (and encouraged)

  • Sifu got me into more run-based games, and here I am with another! Played half a dozen hours and got up to the clock tower boss some years ago. Didn't think after picking it up agian, I'd beat it within 24 hours! I know, I didn't "really" beat it. But I'm not gonna blow dozens of hours on unlocking and improving. I saw credits, so there.

  • Finally felt like getting through this. Never would've wihtout seeing Brad do it and/or the fact that the lost levels give you a few more hints as to what's going on.

  • This really was a bad fighting game. Jump, kick, special move. C'mon Ryan Steel, get it together.

  • Cute cat game. Missed a collectible and then I just got through to the end.

  • Genesis version. Boy this was kinda cheap and mean. Zords are kinda busted bad.

  • What a cute little game boy game. Bad ending is still an ending!

  • Not a great game. Put the weapons in the level that I need for the hidden crystals!!! Final boss as always is garbage.

  • I guess this is a game? Cute, fine, whatever.

  • Dumb, but still obtuse. Dumb though.

  • Still the quick arcade version. Spelling errors, "we almost got cleared", just what I want from this. That Dead Aim one is too involved!

  • Too basic of a "switch color" game. I guess having not played it for a decade made me think that it was more than what I should've known it was. Oh well, shortie at least.

  • Hey, I beat it! It isn't great, it's just yet another Zelda, but after a dozen hours, that was fine enough. The motion based stuff made it easier than I gave it credit for, I just had to be patient.

  • I appreciate this game! Usually not my thing, but the puzzles were intuitive enough that I got through it without much fuss. Gross Geiger stuff as promised.

  • Finally beat this good but frustrating game! Grand prix are the worst. Love the crash modes. Not going to destroy my controller getting gold on every level.

  • This game SUUUUUCKS. Some bosses you can figure out, other ones are just brutal. Don't even talk to me about the boss gauntlets. I'm all for a challenge but this was mean.

  • Exactly what they're advertising. A N64 game with 8 levels for 2022. Love it.

  • I wanted it to be just a bit more than it was. Fine though.

  • Not even a game?

  • That was a pretty cool game. Haven't yet played much of any Pikmin, so I hope it's like this. Got 100% easily enough, felt really good, and I actually love the 2d sprites in the 3d world. Looked really sharp.

  • This was good! I hated the invisible doors, and some of these normal bad guys were fierce, but at least you can get helluv hearts.

  • So I definitely enjoyed this as much as Until Dawn and more than the Dark Picture ones. Maybe it's the higher budget, more investment and storyline, or maybe just the simpler horror movie premise. Made a couple "bad" decisions that I feel llike were unfair or poorly messaged. But I'll take another one of these in 3-4 years.

  • Everyone's right, this game is pretty great. Took me a couple of hours to know the controls instead of just instinctually doing it. But I Ace'd every level and got every gift, so I must've enjoyed it.

  • I liked how relatively easy this was. I could see it being easily frustrating had it been any harder. A cute little Animal Crossing-rogue like romp. Exactly what I expected from it.

  • Yep, this is a 2010 game. By the second half, most "bosses" were a group of former bosses, lazy. But totally a fine one-of-those.

  • Just a bit too up its own butt. FIne, not memorable.

  • This was fine. A bit barebones. Bosses pretty easy, couple sections were real pains.

  • Yeah, that was totally a good open world Sonic game. Running around aimlessly will get you stuff. All the boss music SLAPS too.

  • Well this is a cute little game! I always thought that Demon's Crest threw you into it in a real severe way. This is what I needed to kind of "get" the concept a bit better!

  • Looks like I'm doing all of these. Solid game for the game boy! I hope this helps me enjoy Demon's Crest.

  • "cute" that they show options that you consider for people not depressed struckthrough. It's real, ykno? Can put things into perspective into what's needed to make things work.
