do you prefer getting chocolate or non-chocolate candy when you trick or treat? what's your favorite from either category?

I've had a lot of fun with Fights in Tight Spaces, it's pretty minimalist but exploring card synergy is fun. Treat it like a strategy game and not an action game and you might enjoy it. Another game I enjoyed was Rogue Lords, which was a little title from last year I believe. It's more of an RPG roguelike than a deckbuilding/card based one, but you still upgrade abilities and have a Slay the Spire-style progression through the world.

Bless PC gamepass for this one. I played through the (aggressively mundane) sewer intro. After getting some worldbuilding and accepting some sidequests, I wandered back into the sewers. No enemies spawned, and when I tried to quit, the menu command stopped working? Some kind of weird bug. Alt F4ed and uninstalled.

To be fair, twin stick shooters are the lowest on my preferred list of game mechanics, so I wasn't going to play it long anyways, but those bugs were puzzling. Had some npc's spawn in odd spots in the environment too. The voice acting and especially atmosphere are top notch, though, even in my limited time with it, like you mentioned. Anyone who has a slightly smoother experience than I and can hang with the gameplay will likely get a lot more out of it.

I think that the Brotherhood actually has the most coherent storyline, in that they really do just wanna butcher everyone they don't agree with and they sure give you the opportunity to do that. I felt that bringing back Liberty Prime and Dr. Li was really lazy though. I still spent over 100 hours in the game and will probably triple that by the time I'm done, only to put it down (for Fire Emblem most likely) and come back to it again, because I'm a sucker for everything Fallout has to offer. Nice write up.

The Brotherhood is where it's at. Sure, they have an obsession with obliterating anything vaguely non-human and are fanatically militaristic to the point of fascism, but at least they're up front about it. It didn't surprise me when they wanted to butcher the Railroad and Institute at least. I didn't make it to Diamond City until I was past level 50 because I knew that any interesting story premise was going to be pissed down the collective legs of Bethesda's writing team. The base-building and exploring are enough to get me through the consistently mundane writing (especially regarding the companions, not a single one I've encountered has been of interest, although I haven't taken Nick around yet). I'll play the other factions, get all the achievements, and then pitter around until they release DLC to give me new things to do. At least I know which perks to take the 2nd time through.

edit: Also, while I'm on the topic of the BoS quest line, Liberty Prime is a joke that only works once, Bethesda. Bringing that and Dr. Li back was really lame. Like, SUPER lame.

All three of those bullet points apply overwhelmingly to Animal Crossing: New Leaf for me.

Maybe it's because I'm more familiar with the genre but black metal seems to take the cake as far as terrible people/great music goes. The startling number of murderers, arsonists, rapists, etc. (or the people that tacitly supported them or went to trial but weren't convicted) in the scene would give a lot of people pause. There are still a lot of ugly and regressive views being promoted by artists and musicians (the NSBM movement comes immediately to mind), and they get their fair amount of shit for it, but that doesn't stop everyone. It's relatively small in the grand scheme of things, but the foundation of the genre is rooted in a small group of people, a percentage of which were violent towards person or property.

I'm pretty excited for a sequel, but one thing I find particularly interesting: Prior to this, has there ever been a sequel that carried on from the bad ending of the previous game instead of the good one? I can't think of a single example.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant (PS2) carried on from the 'bad' ending of the first Shadow Hearts game, where the main ladygirl gets some crazy demon sickness and dies (in the good ending you cure her). That's the first one that comes to mind.

I loved Assassin's Creed (1), I thought it had sooooo much going for it despite its flaws. 2 was a better 'game' but the story reveal at the end made me lose interest almost completely. I played Brotherhood and Revelations back to back on a long weekend, burned out hard, and have zero interest in going back. They seem to be treading the same ground as 2 with only minor, incremental differences in the core gameplay. Not for me, not anymore.
