EDIT: I need to refresh my page faster, SexyToad covered what I said. Unfortunately with that last build, the power supply was out of stock, so now I'm trying to fix that issue and the price went back up. So something like deep mush's build is enticing.

Let me counter with this build then.

Ill need to explain a few things, I kept the unlocked processor and motherboard. You can see I edited the price of the motherboard to represent the combo. I changed the ram, and I also altered the price of that. It's to represent this combo. You saved a little off the ram you chose before and some extra for the combo. I kept your choice of video card and case. But I did go with the PSU @a_deep_mushroom chose. This build costs a little more than Mushrooms after rebates. If you need to cut it down more, you will have to pick a different processor, but the i5-4690k is pretty solid and leaves doors open for the future.

EDIT3: Last edit, I promise. This build I listed is a little more expensive that mushrooms, but he didn't add ram (probably my accident.) So this build will come out cheaper.

I made a modified list based on your list. The only change I made was the video card. It came out as a few dollars cheaper than the MSI card on your list but at least it doesn't have to be a rebate. Shaka would still have to pay the full price and mail-in the rebate after the fact. Hehehe! That's the part I've always hated about rebates since it takes AWHIIIIILE for you to get it back. Hahaha!

I havn't looked that much into video cards or brands. I have far less experience in that category. So I just kept what he chose to begin with :P. So I can't say which is better or worse, I guess it's a preference really.

EDIT: I should add that if you do go with mushrooms choice of motherboard and processor you can get the build 40 dollars cheaper. However, since the combo is going on, I say definitely go for the i5-4690k.

EDIT2: I just realized some of the parts were separated between stores, which of course doesn't work for the combos. I fixed the list and forced the merchants on some items. It makes the deals less impressive, but overall you do save some cash and you get to order them from Newegg. More reliable than the other merchants, in my opinion.

EDIT3: Last edit, I promise. This build I listed is a little more expensive that mushrooms, but he didn't add ram (probably my accident.) So this build will come out cheaper.

@shaka999: I can help you bring it down a significant amount. Look at this deal. Same processor, slightly more expensive motherboard, but you save around... 50 or so dollars. This deal, I'm guessing, ends on 7/7.

@fram: I don't know the exact situation, but if it feels like you both are too busy to work at your relationship, why don't you try making the first step? 9 years is a long time, but you could try restarting all over. Try to think about what about her made you into her. Surprise her with something nice. Maybe do the first date all over again. Taking a break is fine, I don't mean to sound too hopeful, but there's a chance if you work at it. My sister and her boyfriend broke up before they decided to move in together. There's rough patches, but doesn't mean it has to end there. But this is just my thoughts from looking in, I don't know all the details.

Best of luck to you.

@bellmont42: I'm not planning to overclock as of now. I'll doubt I would want to further down the line.

@mb: I think I'll stick with the 280x in that case. Thanks for the help!

My only thoughts would be if you are going to stick with a R9 series card you will want a Noctua and probably a Gold certified PSU as AMD cards in the R9 series tend to run very hot and are not exactly efficient. Personally I'd say eat the cost and get EVGA 770 or 780 if you can really afford it. Nvidia generally has better driver support and the EVGA warranty and customer service is pretty tough to beat. Besides that maybe get a full tower case instead of a Mid.

Case and Fan are particularly spots where I personally don't skimp because Cooling is everything to maximize performance of your parts

I'll second the GTX 780 if you can swing it. Also you may want to consider bumping up to something like an HX750 PSU...600w will work but you are going to be pushing it if you ever decide to add a second GPU. Also agreed with Aristotled on the Noctua NH-D14, it's the best air cooler there is and since you are going for a K-series chip and a Z97 Fatal1ty board, it looks like you plan on overclocking so you're going to want the best cooler you can possibly find.

Another thing to keep in mind is that on June 25th the new Devil's Canyon chips are coming out from Intel. The i5-4690k will be about the same price as 4670k but has a base clock 500mhz higher. This is a great time to be building a new machine, you can start off with the Z97 platform and a brand new chip!

The GTX 780 looks very nice... I think Ill definitely upgrade the CPU cooler and Ill keep in mind the GTX 780. Do you guys think that buying the GTX 780 will be better down the line or should I stick with the R9 and add a second GPU down the road?

As for the SSD, the goal is to have the OS on that and the hard drive to hold everything else.

Old post:

I started working a night shift job from 9-5 so I now have some spending cash to hopefully purchase an amazing gaming PC.

The parts I have so far (with their newegg link) are:

I'm looking to get an old computer case from my Brother-in-law, but if not, the case will be:

The total coming out to be ~$1000. Depending on where I purchase from. Is this build solid? Or should I invest more in a certain part or could I save money somewhere?

Updated 7/2/2014: With the upcoming sales from 4th of July, I just want to do one last check on my build before I buy. Here is my new build. The plan is to boot off the SSD and install most games and other files on the hard drive. Later on, when the 280x gets cheaper, I'm going to crossfire two of them. Which is why I chose the 750W power. Is there anything I'm missing or overlooking? Also, some great computer building tips would be also helpful!
