GOTY 2012

I don't normally rank games or make top ten lists, but I figured I should expand my horizons and challenge myself to do something I haven't done before. That being said, I didn't play too many games that were released this year, and I'm actually surprised that I played 18.

Xenoblade is not on this list since I imported it from Europe last year, otherwise it would probably be somewhere in the top 5.

List items

  • I'm a big fan of Point and Click Adventures, played a ton of them as a teen in the glory days of Sierra, and this game hit all the right notes. Episode 3 IS the dark middle chapter of dark middle chapters for me, so emotional.

  • I love the Thief games and this scratched that itch for me. The story may be a little thin, but it was enough, and the gameplay was great.

  • Not sure how to word my feelings on this game, other than to say that it's a great experience.

  • The only other game like this I've ever played was the original X-Com, I am truly surprised that I enjoyed this game as much as I did, though I hate RNGs.

  • Since I first played Forza 3, I have pretty much stopped playing "arcade racers." This was a nice change of pace and a welcome breath of fresh air to my self imposed quarantine from this style of game.

  • I was genuinely sad when I beat this game and there wasn't anything left to do besides collect some stuff that was pointless when all is said and done.

  • Having come to this site in 2010, I hadn't watched the P4 ER until this year. Watching the ER made me wish that my PS2 wasn't dead, and while it probably would have been more cost effective to just buy a new PS2, I instead decided to buy a Vita. I'm half way through and can't wait for P5.

  • I honestly couldn't care less about the story in this game, but the gameplay and challenges are awesome.

  • I love puzzle games, I liked this one so much I S-Ranked it.

  • I don't have much to say about this game, but it was quite enjoyable.

  • Not as good as Darksiders but still fun.

  • I like the LEGO games, and I like DC comics.

  • I'm not normally one for extreme sports games, but this was fun enough.

  • I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps, and I'm starting to get tired of military shooters, but this was fun.

  • Disappointing ending aside, this is still a good game, and the multiplayer was surprisingly fun.

  • Again, disappointing ending aside, this is still a good game, and Haytham is a fucking great character.

  • Didn't quite do it for me, but it was fun enough and the story was interesting enough for me to see it through to the end.

  • It's all right.

  • Meh. Not great, not terrible, just exceptionally mediocre. At least they got the Mk19 right.
