Sgt Sphynx's Favorite Games Played in the Year of Plague, 2020 (GOTY 2020)

Hello all,

This year has sucked major balls. Multiple trips that I was really looking forward to got cancelled due to COVID and a ton of people ignoring COVID.

While I have beaten 14 games released this year and could make a list that consisted only of games released this year, I am instead going to make a list of my favorite games I played this year regardless of release date. The only restriction I am giving myself is if a game has already been on one of my GotY lists before, it cannot be on this one.

List items

  • Supergiant knocked it out of the park with this game. The characters are great, the interactions and plot are wonderful, and the music. Everything about this game is tuned perfectly. Every run feels like I have accomplished something and I get a little bit more of the story. I have beaten several runs but not gotten all of the plot just yet, looking forward to more in the next year.

  • I love this game, I am terrible at this game.

  • I discovered this from the itch.io Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality. I quite enjoyed it.

  • It is a shame that most people won't be able to play this game, while the VR is really good and the game would lose something, I still think this could be played outside of VR without too much lost.

  • Gorgeous game. Not sure which I prefer, this or the first game, I think I like this one better.

  • I uninstalled this game from my Switch in August. It was the first, and only, Animal Crossing game I have played. It got me through the beginning of the lockdown, but I had to remove it when the daily check in got stressful. Also, it refused to give me Audie in my campsite.

  • I have beaten this game seven times, once on Ultra Nightmare somehow. I am not sure how much I like the game though. The gameplay is still excellent, and I really want to see what they do with the implications of the story. That said, I fucking hate the marauders and some of the enemies are just annoying. DOOM 2016 is a better game.

  • I can understand why this game ends where it does, but I do not know how they are going to get the rest of the game remade and how they will break it up.

  • Fun game, has a great ending.

  • Incredibly pretty and well playing game. When you nail those parries and initial stand offs, it is a great feeling.

  • This is a short game, and frustrating at times, but it was what I needed when it released.

  • I have my issues with the way they ended the present day stuff, but I really enjoyed this game, though not as much as Odyssey. They really should have forced the Animus chooses setting though.

  • The plot was meh, rips off a good bit of the Sprawl series, but the world they created (when it worked, which it did for me 99% of the time) was well realized. I also liked the ending I got, and while I have been meaning to go back and see the others, I haven't really been inclined. My V lived the rest of their days with Judy and the Aldecados.

  • If you want a cyberpunk game that runs well and tells a pretty good story, though it also rips off parts of the Sprawl series, look no further than this game.

  • Not as good as the RE2 remake, but I still really enjoyed this game.
