Oh Heroes, what happened to you?

I absolutely loved the first season of Heroes.  Even though it wasn't as good (because of the strike), I was also a big fan of the second season.  But this third season....what the fuck?  The actors are still top notch, but the writing and character development are the worst I've seen since my days of watching Power Rangers.

I mean seriously, this last episode had so many good things going for it, but the writing turned around and just raped the story at every turn with everyone doing things completely out of character, and absolutely no subtlety in the lines.  When I finally thought Noah did something cool and got it across to the viewer perfectly, Clair's mom completely ruins everything by going "You're using them as bait!?"

I've reached the point where they've just killed off so many people, brought them back, made them unrelatable, and sent them into stupid ass situations, that I just don't care what happens in this series anymore.  What happened to stuff like Company Man?  That was by far the best episode and they haven't even tried anything like that since.  Unless they fire whatever monkeys they have shitting on paper and calling it a script, Heroes has officially died.

(I accidently posted this in OT before realizing I wasn't making a blog)

I was not a fan of the show at all. I may have kept watching it if the "cheerleader" wasn't such a crucial character in the story. I found her to be annoying 169% of the time and she made the show unwatchable.

For whatever reason people thought of Heroes to be some "amazing phenomenon" at some point,  I still don't fully understand. I've never thought it was really good to begin with, what so ever.

Good thing they just recently fired several senior writers then.

I completely agree.....Heroes Season 3 was hideous. Also: Claire is so damn boring. If they killed her off right now, I would be a very happy person. She probably has about three different facial expressions, and her constant "me too, me too" attitude is just fucking annoying.

There are two things that always ruin superhero/sci-fi stories:

1) Overpowered characters (Peter)
2) Time Travel as a crutch to fix writer flubs (Hiro)

Other than these two dependencies, Heroes isn't that bad. I'm torn about the new season, though. They're putting it up against 24, and 24's actually looking more promising at this point.

Kush, if you haven't watched "the Company Man", do that now because that's 100% chearleader in that episode and it still manages to be the best one in the series.

Honestly, I felt like Heroes started to fall apart near the end of the first season.  I should have stopped watching then, but I went in to the second season with high hopes anyway, because most of the season was so good.  Imagine my surprise when season 2 was terrible.  Still, between seasons 2 and 3, I heard that the writers had worked really hard on focusing and finding a direction for the show, and like a fool, I believed them.  Season 3 has been an atrocity, and the thought that it's coming back sometimes causes me to wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, gripped with terror.

The most frustrating thing about Heroes is that its problems seem so obvious.  Things like grossly overpowered characters, and the constant logical inconsistencies that arise from time travel are problems that could be easily solved.  In fact, they're so glaring that they really never should have existed in the first place.  The overpowered characters are the worst in my opinion, because the writers make them act like complete idiots in order to make them seem balanced, but all it accomplishes is confusing an audience that wonders why Peter doesn't just walk through a certain wall, or stop time to save someone being held hostage.  It's like he just occasionally forgets everything he can do.  And its not just Peter.  At some point, every single character in that show has acted in ways that make absolutely no sense.

Totally agree. I loved Heroes but now the series has just been crapped up beyond repair.

Blah-blah-blah, geek nation can't be pleased.  "I hate Heroes, Lost sucks, Smallville is silly, Galactica's overrated crap", yadda, yadda, yadda.  I don't know how much you really expect from this show or any show.  All of them, regardless of genre, have ups and downs.  But, for some reason, fans of the comic/sci-fi genre lose faith faster than average viewers and also bitch the loudest when doing so.  So, you don't like Heroes anymore. Go watch reruns of Manimal, Automan, the Greatest American Hero, or the Misfits of Science.  Maybe then you'll see watch used to pass for comic-book inspired entertainment in the past.

And if anyone says "Manimal? That show rocked!"  It's because you were seven, and seven year olds like stupid crap.  When I was seven I loved the Shazam/Isis, Princess of Power Hour.  They rode around in a Winnebago fighting lame criminals and rescuing lamer friends.

They need to kill it off NOW, before it gets even worse and people forget that the show was actually good at one point.

Heroes in its first season was completely and utterly awesome. There wasn't a single episode I didn't like, and the Odin Sphere-esque way how all of the threads of the different characters came together for one huge finale was freaking epic.

The second season was "meh", but that was in part due to the writer's strike, and also in part because Adam doesn't make nearly as good of a villain as Sylar does. Oh, and the Deus Ex Machina in disguise known as Claire's blood, but that wasn't too bad till really late in the season, when it was obvious that the writers were pressed for time and desperately needed something to save their asses. And that stupid flying boy who obviously took acting lessons from Keanu Reeves whose name I can't remember.

Now that I think about it, season 2 had a lot of bizarre flaws compared to the first one...

I never got into the show, because I knew this would happen eventually.

The concept of heroes thrives in graphic novel format because it's so outrageous and it's so versatile. When you take it out of it's dominant medium, disappointment ensues.

Ain't nothing wrong with Shazam.  I mean, he's no Kazaam, but who is?

This is true.  Also note that they ran out of fresh ideas 1/2 though season 1.  Ever since then they've just been stealing comic book storylines and film storylines.

The whole "luke I am your father" bullshit w/ peter/sylar and the evil father dude was so fucking bullshit, I gave up on that episode and never went back.  They've stolen obvious XMen stories, superman stories, you name any popular story from a comic, or sci fi tv/movie and it's been dumbed down and resused for heroes.

Quite possibly the most disappointing franchise on TV.  Started off w/ 10 great episodes and it's been a train wreck ever since.

Season one = You only thought it was good because you saw potential that never manifested.
Season two = crap because it was season one done worse.
Season three = They have accepted that they are not as smart as they thought and are now having fun.
