Disappointments of 2010

While most of these games are not flat out bad games, they in one way or another fell short (or in some cases failed even when I had none) of my expectations.

List items

  • This was a pretty fun game. Then the ending happened. Then it became a game I rather not see again.

  • You know, I should have seen this coming. Fable II set my expectations low, but even then Fable III manged to miss the mark even more remarkably bad than Fable II. If it wasn't for the voice acting and writing, this game would be in another category other than disappointment.

  • It takes a lot for me to stop playing a game after investing about ten hours into it. Such is the case with Final Fantasy XIII. Apparently, I was only half way to unlocking the actual game. Too bad the story wasn't keeping me engaged to care.

  • The multiplayer co-op demo had me looking forward to this game. Then the multiplayer death match demo had me put it on ignore. I only ended up getting it when it was on sale and had a buddy to play with. What I ended up playing was one of the most awkward controlling third person shooter games of this year, and that's just one of its problems.

  • Yeah. I know I'm adding this in 2011, but I don't care. This game has easily overtaken Fable III as not only the most disappointing game of 2010, but also one of the worst reboots for a franchise. The single player campaign is bland, buggy, and downright no fun for a lot of it. The multiplayer is a hodgepodge of Battlefield and Call of Duty without succeeding at mimicking either. Then there's Tier 1 mode, which is one of the worst ways to ever implement a time trial based mode into a FPS. The game's technical shortcomings and bugs become apparent big time.

I can honestly say I've never had less fun with a military FPS in either single player or multiplayer aspects. What very little neat ideas the game has are significantly bogged down by a slew of problems across the board. The market is already packed with better FPS games. Don't waste your time with this one.

  • While the gameplay was enjoyable for the most part, the story is flat out one of the worst in the Metroid series and video games. That's saying a lot for a series not known for its storyline.

  • This game is fun for the first few hours. Then the rubber band AI kicks in big time and the game goes South fast.

  • For a game that got revamped and delayed from its original Fall release, it sure didn't play much better than older Splinter Cell games.
