  • Is this secretly the best Halo game? I think it might be.

I never really cared for the story in Halo 3 (the first halo game to really resonate with me) and I now know it's because that game is basically the 2nd half of this game. Seeing the inner workings of the Covenant is super cool and also you play as Keith Fucking David.

In hindsight, the out roar about the cliffhanger ending is strange to me, because it's fucking awesome. Don't people remember that the ending to their beloved Empire Strikes Back also ended on a cliffhanger?

  • The Ultimate Edition remaster. I once thought the original was a fantastic cover shooter that was excellently paced. This version, not so much. Changing scenes that were in engine into cut scenes just fucks with that pace too much.

I also think this version really highlights how much of this game I enjoyed because of it's technical marvel for the time.

  • This game is fucking dope. And adding a photo mode to the legendary edition is also, Dope. As. Fuck.

  • I mean, I 'finished' it but can you ever really finish a racing game.

  • I hadn't played this since The Phantom Pain but boy, the base in this game is so much more designed and complex than anything in TPP.

  • The 360 version. The version I started and never finished because I was so lost most of the time. I kept returning to this version for years and I just never 'got' it like other people. It wasn't until my time with the PC version that I understood that this is one of the best games of all time. 9

  • Holy cow what an amazing return to form for the mainline Resident Evil series. Top to bottom just a unique, fresh take on familiar tropes and ideas.

I wish I had jumped on the RE7 bandwagon sooner but alas, I thought it'd be too spooky4me but it's really only scary for like the first half an hour. Looking forward to playing 8

  • I never liked this as much as the first game and in 2022 that still rings true. It's certainly bigger in scale but you barely close any E-Holes in this one and at the end of the day, that's all I want from my gears.

I remembered a lot less about this game than the first one too. The giant worm and giant sea monster thing had completely slipped my memory. Also more bad vehicle sections. Non of it stuck with me and in another 13 years I bet I will have forgotten again.

Dom's wife was pretty fit tho.

  • Didn't get all the cheevos before Elden Ring :( stupid flu.

It's not as good as the first half of Dark Souls 1 but it's just as good as the second half of Dark Souls 1 and that's still infinitely better than most video games.

  • Taking the best systems and gimmicks of the previous games, Final Fantasy V feels like a 'greatest hits' of the series' tropes up until this point. It doesn't really do anything the previous games haven't done, but it combines the classic job system with a bunch of variety and a story that both feels genuine and true to the series.

    Onwards to FFVI!

  • A little half baked in spots and doesn't really end on a high note but still mostly a really cool relatively subdued story.

  • I remember when I first played this game. I didn't have a memory card, so everyday after school I'd start from the beginning and see how far I could get, and I never got bored of doing this because this was a revolutionary game at the time (also I was a child).

Nowadays though, This feels mostly like a tech demo for the two games that would follow. The missions are simplistic and the story is practically nonexistent. Grand Theft Auto has come a long way since Grand Theft Auto 3.

  • Wow. What a fantastic ending. Resident Evil is back in full force. About 2/3 of the way through I was questioning if this was a worthy follow up to 7 but then it ramps up in a way that I was not expecting. 7 was a great game, but this is a great Resident Evil game. They go crazy in a way only Resident Evil can.

Absolutely cannot wait for the remake of Resident Evil 4. This game borrows so much from that game and I don't think that's by coincidence. The way this game leaves you wanting more from each area feels like an amazingly intelligent marketing scheme for RE4, which had a lot of similar locations, only bigger in scale.

Also I absolutely loved the unexpected Spencer connection, and Chris reacting literally the same way I did when reading that letter made me laugh so hard.

  • The world of Elden Ring is incredible. 150 hours during my first playthrough and still want to keep playing.

That being said. This game is easy as shit. As a long time From fan I am very disappointed.

  • This game is still great, even if i've gotten worse

    And the DLC, is faaaaaantastic

  • Relaxing with a great story. would have liked another story to follow

  • Beat it just in time for the remake announcement. weird how the timing of that worked out.

  • While I can appreciate this game as something that survived a tumultuous development, it's hard not to consider this one of the worse entries in the Final Fantasy series.

There's a lot I liked about this game, but a killer soundtrack and a cool car don't really make up for how bland this game is, both in terms of gameplay and the visual stylings of the world.

In any case, I'm glad I can finally remove this game from my backlog.

  • What an amazing remake. The cutscenes are gorgeous and do a great job of elevating the already fantastically detailed story. The gameplay is still GTA open world whatever, but the story is really where this game shines.

  • Kinda rough around the edges when played directly after the remake of the first game but the story here is still superb, despite the animation looking very dated.

Also this era of DLC is very strange. The arcadey nature of the Jimmy stuff isn't terrible, and the devs are trying out some new stuff so good for them, but I would have liked more story focused stuff.

  • Quite the departure from the previous 2 games. And not entirely an improvement. The story and cutscenes are still some of the best in the open world crime genre, but the open world game design leaves a lot to be desired. It's not completely terrible, but it is certainly repetitive, and there's too much of it. It's like they focused entirely on the criticism of 2 that the open world was too empty when I thought the open world being a backdrop to the story was it's biggest strength.

The story itself though is fantastic. I enjoyed every moment until the end. This was a revenge tale and at the end, you just let the dude you're going after have his little monologue when it would have been so much more satisfying to deny him this last moment of vanity. That feeling of disappointment at the final kill didn't last long though because he bugged the fuck out in the most glorious way:

  • Man, what an amazing game. A perfect example of how the interactivity of games can be used to help elevate a story. I feel like If I had played this when it was new my taste in entertainment media would be drastically different.

  • So during the credits of this I decided to look into the various staff who worked on this game. I discovered that of the 19 leads who worked on the game, only 3 of them had worked on a previous Respawn game. Now, I know I shouldn't be surprised that EA would do something like this, considering their milking of the Bioware name, but I can't help but feel lied to.

That being said, This game is faaaaantastic. The dark souls-lite combat doesn't really work for me, but the story stuff is some top tier Star Wars, especially the last 1/3.

Also seeing visiting a certain location I had just seen in the Obi Wan show was kind of awesome.

  • Th HD 1.5 & 2.8 Hyper Turbo Psycho Remix version.

Soooo much nostalgia for this game. I wish I still had the limited edition strategy guide because man, that thing was gorgeous and incredibly useful.

Very much enjoyed revisiting this and finally beating Sephiroth + the other optional bosses. I spent so much time trying to defeat them as a kid..... only to beat them all mostly on my first attempt here.

Thinking back now, The optional bosses in this game was kind of my first 'Dark Souls' like experience. It's interesting to me that it took me so long to 'get' Dark Souls considering how much time I spent dying and retrying the bosses in this game.

  • This game is really more-ish

  • They recreated the Walter White household! Finally I can live out my fantasy of fixing the fact that the only Bathroom the White family has is connected to the master bedroom. If I had designed that house Hank never would have caught Walt.

  • I had completely forgotten they remade this game in 3D. It's....not as good as the GBA version!

At the time, and this still rings true today, I was blown away by how important this game is to the Kingdom Hearts 2 story. Going from a PS2 game, to a GBA game and then back to a PS2 game and that being the required path for full comprehension of the story is insane. I know the PS2 and GBA were insanely popular with a large userbase, which is probably why it worked out (in this instance), is insane.

Anyway, the card based system is less charming in 3D and I wish they had included the GBA version.

  • Thank god they only included the cutscenes for this because stretching this story out over a 20+ hour 3DS game sounds like a nightmare.

  • This game just doesn't click with me the way it does for everyone else. It just feels like a waste of SuperGiantGame's talents to make a pretty basic rogue-lite.

That being said, the story is alright. And the justification for having to replay the game over and over to uncover the story is pretty smart.

  • Note to self. Choose to play games based on nothing other than their game pass thumbnail more often.

  • I never imagined I would play through this more than once. Little did I know, you could cheat engine the game to run at 3x speed.

  • What a disappointment. Hopefully this follows the same pattern as the other games and they get it together for the 2nd one.

I never thought I'd miss the characters of the older games, but I made my character to be so similar to my Saints Row 3/4 one that it just made me miss those games even more.

  • Playing this has given me a new found appreciation for how good Vinny is at this game.

  • While I'm a big Assassin's Creed fan, for better or worse, this isn't the Assassin's Creed I played as a teenager. It's still good but I do miss the dense cityscapes of the older games.

And boy is this game long and it just doesn't have the combat system to keep it interesting throughout. It's at least very, very pretty.

  • After the trash fire that was Saints Row 2022, it's nice to return to the comfort of a better Saints Row game.

  • my forever game

  • After many years of chipping away at this, I'm finally done. Maybe a tad bit long but that's really on me for looking around the world so much. There's not much in it but that didn't stop me looking!

Looking forward to the sequel because if they can just fill the world with more interesting stuff then this would absolutely be one of the best games ever.

  • What a fantastic game, and an even more fantastic story. The ending is just phenomenal. Those Arkane guys are pretty smart. The way the ending felt tailored to the way I played was just, so sweet.

  • This game tapped into a part of my brain that is very, very unhealthy for me. In the first 4 days of starting this game, I played 54 hours. My existence quite literally became this game. I can't remember the last time a game affected me like this. I've become *reasonably* good at not letting my obsession with Video Games take over my life in this way but something about this game. It's hit me in a way that no other survival game has. So happy to be done with it.

Very interested to see what aspects of this game Obsidian carry over into the future. What did they learn from this game and how will it affect their other titles, if at all. Kudo's to them for doing the Fallout 4-building stuff properly and definitely hope to see more of this from them in the future.

  • An excellent walking simulator. I was anxiously ready to be done with this during the last 1/5 (finishing clock was only 50 hours but I got a lot on my to-play list) but once it was over, I kinda wanted more. An incredibly strong finish, despite a few contrivances in the story that felt very video gamey. I played 98% of Yakuza 0 and it just didn't hit the same way this game did. Looking forward to diving into the sequel... after a brief refractory period.

  • Did not expect to wake up one day, buy this game and then proceed to beat it by bedtime but sometimes that's just how the cookie crumbles. Definitely one of my favourite games

  • What a fantastic game. Was the first one this good? because if so why did nobody tell me.

It's certainly not perfect but it's definitely punching above it's weight. An amazing story that tries to incorporate meaningful gameplay throughout, even if that doesn't always work out in the smoothest way. There were multiple points where I would have rather they focus on the narrative instead of making me do a forced combat section but whatever, I was still able to get into a flow state with the story going on.

  • There should be more games like this. Games that just let you explore interesting places. Could have done without the combat but whatever, it was worth dealing with so I can look at all the neat icky fleshy walls.

  • Easily the 3rd best Dragon Age game. Lots of good stuff in this game, just as much bad stuff though. Whereas Dragon Age 2 felt like it accomplished more with less, Inquisition feels like it does less with more. The huge maps filled with pointless filler content and a whole lot of walking sucks. The character interactions and *most* of the story is pretty good. Certainly ends on a very high note with the trespasser DLC. While it made me excited for the story set up for the next game, the troubled development cycle, and constantly switching of high level personnel on Dragon Age 4 make it hard to feel super hopeful about the future of the franchise.

  • MISE-EN-FUCKING-VIDEO-GAME

Just an absolute visual delight. The gameplay started really enjoyable but outside of the bosses, the game does nothing to challenge or push you so the interesting mechanics kind of took a backseat to the gorgeous visual composition.

  • This game ran at 15FPS from the very start and it wasn't until it started running at 60 for the last 10 minutes that I learned that wasn't a stylistic choice xD

I wanted to like this a lot more than I actually did. It's not bad by any means, but it didn't really stand out to me in any remarkable way. It's certainly ambitious, has neat visuals, some pretty interesting moments, an awesome doggo with an amazing stair climbing animation (whom you cannot pet for some stupid reason. the protagonist doesn't even give a shit about him) but it all just didn't do much for me.

Maybe the performance issues contributed to me feeling unmoved by the whole thing but alas, I can't have my first playthrough again.

  • This game is like a forward operating time travel device. Load it up and time just disappears

  • The spiritual successor to Fez I've been waiting a decade for. Any game that forces you to pull out a notepad for is alright with me. Also boy the pictures in the manual are just so adorable

  • Crazy to me that literally half of this game is Pandora's temple. Also crazy to me that Christopher Judge wasn't always Kratos. Also, games should have bonus stuff in them like making ofs and model viewers. Truly a lost art.

Kind of a bummer that these games are mostly remembered for the sex minigame and Kratos being the paragon of toxic masculinity cause the scale of the level design/enemies and intricacies of the story are pretty good for a character action game in 2005.

  • Despite all it's shortcomings, I still find myself coming back to this game. And hey, playing on a platform with achievements I care about actually kind of made up for the lack of content. So that's one shortcoming checked off! (though an endless mode would still have been nice, albeit probably magnitudes more work){

  • The game that finally pushed me towards buying a PS5. Had I known what I know about the game now.... I probably would have waited until the Resident Evil 4 remake before getting one.

Not to say the game is bad. It's just... I dunno. Kind of boring most of the time? I'm still heavily invested in Kratos' story but that feels like less of a focus here. Also this game is awfully paced and why the fuck is everyone telling the god of fucking war that he's on fire constantly.

  • 3 months until the remake. Will Shami make it that long without replaying this classic :o
