Just wanted to pop in and say I enjoyed the Best Match Ever episode on Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher. It's such a wild, fascinating match that I love but also feel a bit guilty for loving as much as I do, for obvious reasons. In a weird way, it also expanded my point of view about what makes a good "wrestling match." It's a big, horrific spectacle; they're not doing anything technical, but there's a clear story they're telling that hits you right in the gut. Even the shit that goes wrong adds to the match. It's basically an indie version of Undertaker vs. Mankind KOTR '98 in that the story becomes this dude surviving the most gruesome shit and pushing to keep on fighting against this overwhelming monster out to kill him. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get swept up in it every time; at the same time, I can't blame anyone who says it's a bit too much for them.

I'm months behind on Tokyo Joshi Pro, but I'm tuning in tonight for sure. Last year's show was good; this could easily beat that.

I am going to this show, and honestly, just the idea of Nick Gage of all people against David Arquette (?!?!) interests me a lot more than the original Gage vs. Joey Ryan match. This isn't going to be good, but it's so weird that I'm super into it.

I'm also going to Takeover and am super happy I'll get to see a Kairi vs. Shayna Baszler match at my first NXT event. They're both amazing.

If you've got any interest in Io Shirai, definitely seek out Io vs. Meiko Satomura vs. Hiroyo Matsumoto from Kenta Kobashi's recent Fortune Dream 5 show. It's exactly the match you would want from those three.

I hope Io does well for herself in WWE. Selfishly I want her to stay in Stardom, especially now that I'm super into the promotion and barely watch WWE at all, but I agree that she's achieved basically everything she can there. Io deserves that massive stage. Let her tear it up in NXT for a bit and then achieve her dreams.

Stardom probably would've been in a bad way had Io left last year like she wanted, but Mayu and Kagetsu are reliable stars, Momo Watanabe and Jungle Kyona and Hazuki are ready to make their leaps, Hana Kimura is getting huge in the joshi world in general, etc. They're in a solid position to stay strong.

@papercut: Depends on where you want to sit! I assume for a big event like that at one of the final Reseda shows, people will arrive a few hours before bell time to stake out a spot in line. (For last year's BOLA Stage Two show, for example, I got a corner seat in the second row on the entrance side, and I showed up around... 2 p.m., I think?) If you're going to wait in line a while, definitely bring a chair to sit on and an umbrella for shade. Those were life savers for me. Also, in my experience, people in line are super cool and will save your spot if you need to use the restroom, get some water, or take your stuff back to your car when the line starts moving.

I've been watching a ton of Stardom recently. Gone from 2011 to the 2016 Cinderella Tournament on Stardom World so far... not watching every match, but probably like 80% of them. It was really interesting seeing the promotion's origins and how future stars like Mayu Iwatani and Kairi Hojo developed from the starts of their careers. I do wish there were more of 2012-2015 available on the site. Oh well. 2016 has been extremely fun so far. Every Mayu defense of the High Speed title has crushed it (her match against Evie/Dakota Kai is still my favorite of the year so far), as has Io's red belt defenses. The surrounding cast has improved a lot, too: Kagetsu has shown up and made Oedo Tai that much stronger, Jungle Kyona and Momo Watanabe are fun rookies, the rotating cast of foreigners has gotten pretty good, etc. The work Stardom does in subtitling everything has done a good job in getting me more invested; it's all simple stories, but even having that simple story to latch onto helps so much. Looking forward to burning through everything and finally catching up to 2018 in a few months!

Just got back from BOLA Stage 2. Fucking amazing show. Easily the best I've ever been to live. Some quick thoughts:

Trevor Lee vs. Donovan Dijak: Fun match, especially with Trevor turning his heeling up to 11. Worked a little weird with Trevor beating up a much bigger dude, but he did cheat a whole bunch so it wasn't that egregious. The result surprised me; I guess, however, PWG wants Dijak to put over someone else before he goes to WWE or wherever.

Sammy Guevara vs. Joey Janela: Sammy had a fine enough debut, but he and Joey crushed it (and each other) here. So much bonkers shit, though my favorite was the chair-assisted monkey flip spot. Never seen Joey wrestle before, so I don't know if that's a trademark of his, but I've definitely never seen it before. Too bad Sammy cut a pretty bland promo after the match lol

Travis Banks vs. Mark Haskins: Boy did these two kick the shit out of each other. God damn. The match was well on its way to being the best of the night before a weird ending -- I didn't see it very well, so I don't know if there was some miscommunication, but it seemed like the match ended before it was supposed to. Still, super fun, super hard-hitting match. EDIT: Stuff I'm seeing on reddit (so take it with a grain of salt) indicates that Haskins changed the finish and ref Justin wasn't expecting it, so that's where the confusion came from.

LDRS vs. Ricochet/Matt Sydal: So glad LDRS are still full heel even after Zack lost the title. They were such entertaining pieces of shit to the high fliers. Classic, super fun tag match.

Jeff Cobb vs. Sami Callihan: Pretty sure this was the shortest match of the night, a pure sprint from Sami where he also tried to slow down and frustrate Cobb when he could. It worked until Sami got tossed around a whole bunch. Side note: I got hit by a water bottle Sami threw during his entrance. It was very refreshing -- I made sure to thank him after the show.

Matt Riddle vs. Michael Elgin: I'd say this was match of the night. It's all about establishing Riddle's toughness and resiliency -- Elgin hit Riddle with a million bombs, but he just wouldn't stop fighting. Elgin got some NASTY shots in, too. All in on Riddle taking BOLA this year after this match.

Keith Lee vs. WALTER: After a feeling out process, the match transitioned to the pair just beating the living shit out of each other. I will never say no to a big hoss bomb fest. Also enjoyed the story of WALTER having the edge in speed and technique, but Keith having pure power and spirit on his side. They got into a Kobashi-Sasaki-esque chop war at one point, and it ruled.

The Elite vs. Penta El 0 M/Rey Fenix/Flamita: A wonderful, bonkers spotfest. I had a huge smile on my face the entire time. Spot of the match was Fenix frankensteinering his brother onto The Elite but hitting one of the hanging lamps on his way down and causing the light bulb inside to dislodge and break on the ground. The staredown between Kenny Omega and Penta had me so giddy. Where else other than PWG am I going to get that? Pro wrestling rules.

Great, great show. Can't wait for it to come out on video so y'all can see it and I can see it again.

Managed the miracle of getting a ticket to BOLA Stage Two. Hyped as hell to attend my first BOLA! Hopefully I'll have enough free time soon to catch up on the G1, as well. It's been killing me to not keep up with it every day.
