2018 Games Completed List

List items

  • I completed this game on January 6th. I would have probably never bought this, but it was a free PS+ game. Very glad I played it. I see myself probably buying season 2 when it's on sale. I enjoyed this story a lot.

  • So I got hooked on the phone game and that inspired me to go back and look at the PS3 version. This game is awesome I wish I hadn't missed out on it back in the day. I just never got around to putting time into it. Simple and addictive. Cleared arcade mode for the first time on 1/22/18

  • Horror games typically aren't my jam, but this was an Xbox Live Gold game a few months back and I thought it looked interesting enough to give it a shot. Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit, certainly had a few jump scares, but I felt like the game lost a lot of tension it had built up in the final area by becoming too obtuse with what your objectives were. Still, this was a fun change of pace.

  • I "completed" the story mode on this game on February 9th. The game itself is a joy to play in all forms except the story mode which is a painful slog. Thankfully with that now out of the way I can get back to enjoying the awesome fighting in this game.

  • I completed this on April 1st. So, um, Dragon Ball FighterZ has completely taken over my life and made it so I'm barely playing anything else. But I found time to bop through this with a friend.

The gameplay is really simple, but all in all I feel like this is a good evolution of the Telltale formula. The game got better as it went along and had some genuinely great moments. The rigidity of the choices in the ending bugged me, but doesn't detract from the fun me and my partner had playing through this.

  • Well, this was the Android release of Dragon Quest II, but this was the easiest thing to find on the game search. It took me years, but I finally found the time to seriously put my heart into beating this game. I didn't really think I would and so I named my character Jerkface, but in the end he was the hero I was looking for all these years. This game was also way better than I thought it would be- up until the end game where I had to do a lot of guessing, but I put it all together. Only mainline DQ's I haven't finished now are 3 and 6.

  • Well, this was the Android release of Dragon Quest III, but this was the easiest thing to find on the game search. Much like Dragon Warrior II, this was a long time coming, a lot longer than II actually since I played this before I played II back in the day. This game still holds up really well and was a ton of fun. It also has, what is in my opinion, the most challenging last stretch of enemies in DQ history. All I have left on my mainline DQ list now is VI....... well, X also, but considering it's a JPN only MMO that'll never happen.

  • I've really been getting into tactical games lately. This one is a sort of a mash-up with tactics and a bit of a make your own Power Rangers spin on it. The story was shockingly fun, and it turns out it has some very big forks in it so you can get multiple endings. The fact it has a real new game+ mode means I might actually see those someday. Recommended.

  • Having enjoyed Life is Strange I was psyched to play this. It's super short, being essentially a teaser disguised as a full game, but it's incredibly effective at getting me to want another Life is Strange. Fun and free. Tough to beat that combo.

    Cleared on June 30th.

  • I finished this on July 2nd. This game is awesome. So much more depth than I'm used to in Nintendo sports games. Easily the best one since Strikers Charged. Looking forward to diving into the online for this.

  • Normally I wouldn't even look at a CoD game, but this was a PS+ game this month so I gave it a shot. I actually enjoyed the campaign a lot. It ran a bit too long at the end, but overall it was fun and I really liked it a lot.

I finished this in the wee hours of July 3rd.

  • A friend and I bought this game on the belief it had online multiplayer. It doesn't - it has ghost data exchange and things like that, but no direct online. While that was disappointing the game is fun as all hell and the racing feels great. At only $10 it was a great value buy.

  • Another turn based strategy game on the list! It was basically described as Mario X-Com in the past and that's not too far from the truth, but unlike X-Com you don't have the base building layer to deal with.

It does have some light puzzles which are its weakest elements, but while not fantastic they aren't some terrible drag either. Besides that the lack of permadeath and the ability to respec your characters on the fly without limit make some interesting changes to how you'll approach certain missions. It also lets the game throw types of missions at you that one party you have may be completely unprepared for and so you'll swap characters. I've had a really tremendous time with this game and plan to go back and do the DLC as well.

  • I finished this on September 18th. It was just a sloppy playthrough on the Capcom Beat Em' Up Bundle but it counts I guess. This game is awesome.

  • FINALLY BEAT THIS GAME on September 23rd. This was the white whale for me in the Mega Man main series. The Wily levels, particularly the first one I feel are quite difficult compared to others in the series. So glad to be past this. And in time for MM11 too!

  • I finished this game on September 29th. I'm so glad I waited for them to "fix" this game. I just completed the Shadow Wars segment which was considered to be the worst part of the game and found the revamped version of it to be immensely enjoyable and my favorite part of a game I absolutely loved. I'm still doing online conquest mode even now and plan to play the DLCs as well.

  • Much better than the last few entries. The showcase mode being back is fine, but the story mode is what makes this game worth playing. It's actually well written and extremely funny. Not sure how much I'll come back to it now that I finished, but it was worth at least a run through.

    Finished on October 24th.

  • I put off playing this game forever, yet I finally finished it on November 3rd. Playing this after "A Way Out" it's clear to see the influence this game had on it, but somehow this game is much better. It also tells a better story. Glad I played it.

  • I finished Metro 2033 on November 16th as part of the Metro Redux pack on Xbox One. The story and setting in this game was compelling, but the gameplay sometimes left you with little direction in a very linear game and it becomes frustrating. Still liked it a lot though.

  • I finished this game on November 26th. I feel like this is the best 2D action game I've played in many years. Probably the best made game I've played this year.

  • A magical game. Both hilariously funny and creepy at the same time. Finished on December 15th.

  • Holy shit! I beat 3 DQ games in one year. Unreal. With this I'm finally free to play DQ XI. So, having played all but X, being a Japan only online game, I can finally unveil my official ranking of Dragon Quest games!

    8-7-5-4-3-9-6-2-1

VI ranks pretty low. The story actually has a pretty cool concept, but the execution just isn't there. Also there are some baffling game design decisions that drag it down. Still it was fun enough.

  • I finished the campaign on December 26th and have all characters unlocked, but realistically I'm just now starting to really get into this game. The single player mode ended up being way better than I ever thought it would be, and it alone was enough to justify the price of admission, but now I'm looking forward to competing with people. Looking for long term value out of this one.
