FF14 has added new stuff since you quit, including a little tutorial thing that you can go through called the Hall of Novice that will teach you the basics of your role. I'm sure by the end of that you'll have remembered how to play.
@efesell: Actually Paledrake was a term used in DS2 for his soul.
I felt like while DS3 answers a few questions, it also leaves quite a few more unanswered. But we'll have to see on that after people decipher more of the lore. There are some possible crazy implications, that may or may not answer some of the major questions from DS1.
Funnily enough the one time i got super pissed at the game was at 4 'normal' hollows. Crossbow, halberd, axe and estus blocking guy. Granted the halberd guy was one shotting me, so that wasnt' fun at all.
@gundamseeds: That demo was silly. Don't be discouraged.

Holding down a button for combat is not very exciting. Their could be all kinds of systems around it, but if the main action is me holding down a button and occasionally getting out the way, that's a big problem.
Now I'm wondering what the combat was like under Nomura. If it was just Kingdom Hearts, but with vehicles and guns (via Prompto), I think I would prefer that.
The platinum demo was really bad in terms of what it showed for combat, 2 weapons and 1 spell. It also never told you that there are actually skills that you could do with the weapons, or how to do them. So we basically killed the Iron Giant with the equivalent of just hitting the Attack command over and over. They really screwed up with the Platinum demo.
I'd actually recommend starting on 3 rather than 4. 2 is going to be hard to get, even more so with 1. Also the gameplay in those is...on a much older engine. Also playing 3 will make you appreciate quite a few things in 4 a lot more. Like a lot of characters and other things introduced in 3 become recurring characters for the next 2 games, not necessarily story characters either, side quest characters too. Not to mention 3 is the last one where you play as just Kiryu, and this will change the way you'll feel about not playing as him in 4 from the start.
@subliminalkitteh: I feel like there's a possiblity the MC might not be human, possibly not even exist outside of their mim. It would explain not having any memories of anything before waking up, because you never existed before that.
Of course we might never ever get any answers to any of these questions.
If you guys want to setup a Discord server or something we could use that both as a chatroom and a voicechat channel for playing games online. Seems like it could be a good idea.
Oh hey, i was at the meetup with my friend. We came by around your booth the next day, don't think you were around, oh well.
I'm from Melbourne, board games or any other events sounds like a fun thing. In fact i've been trying to get a board game thing going with some friends myself.
