i appreciate dan's effort to create a dumb resurrection backstory...

What effort? he said, "actually, have you played Mass Effect 2, have you seen Face Off?" and when he was pressed by Vinny he just said he, "took the brain out and gave it to engineering [Engineering for god's sake!] and then they put his brain in". That's not even good enough to qualify as schlock.

If Dan want's to change a name, Dan can change the name, there's nothing stopping someone else from changing it back.

That's the problem, if anyone can just change the name as nonchalant as saying, "uhhh, Freaky Friday" then there are no stakes in the meta-narrative, the play-by-play of GB familiars. What's the point of playing Ironman mode? Why not just save-scum? Why not restart the game and go, "Uhh, you seen Back to the Future?" Without the structure of the Exquisite Corpse at play, the only narrative you're left with is, "They gone lose at this videogame, or maybe win it...?"

What I wanted from this feature was three/four friends working together towards a common goal like Project BEAST.

That's not really what an exquisite corpse is, though. You deal with the consequences of other people's work, good or bad. The problem, i'll say again, is with Vinny not having any hard rules for this feature, it's half-assed as an EC (currently) and it's his responsibility to shape the series. Hopefully he learns this from this video because i think it's a neat idea at least.

Also -unrelated to the above quotes- am i crazy in thinking Dan isn't really trying to play the heel in this series? I'm pretty sure Dan has shown time and time again that he plays games from a self indulgent perspective, which is fine. This just seems like a case where he sucks at co operative games because he's not really use to them and is in that self indulgent mind-set that he likes out of games. He doesn't know how to, "play nice with others" unless he's reminded, such as the case with the last PUBG.

I just don't see it as Dan playing a heel. It's just the way Dan plays games, which would be fine, and entertaining, in this series if he had any rules to cleverly subvert, rather than just making them up on his own.

That being said, I think there probably was an expectation that the game would be played in an earnest and sincere manner. Watching Vinny's play in the prologue, followed by Abby and Alex both putting in flawed but extremely earnest efforts set the stage for Dan's gimmicked approach to completely clash with everything and be perceived (correctly in my opinion) as being in bad faith and against the spirit of the show.

I'm not sure if i only half agree with you or not here. From my point of view, everything that's permitted within the structure of an exquisite corpse should be permitted here. If Dan wants to cower in the back and send everyone else forward as cannon fodder, that works as long as it can be countered. If Dan wants to make every new rookie a dan clone, that works too, it's lame and boring but it still works within the EC structure.

My issue is with rewriting over previously established characters so he can get himself back in the game. Dan playing as a heel works because you're eager for him to get his comeuppance, but if he just lazily rewrites himself back into the narrative, you lose those peaks and valleys that make the meta-narrative fun to watch. When the heel is making the rules, your story just flat-lines.

The problem, from where i stand, is in Vinny not better enforcing the rules and structure of the EC. I wouldn't blame Dan for not knowing what an EC is, but Vinny's there to referee the overall "EC game" and it seems he's failed to do that in this episode which may potentially ruin any investment in the future meta-narrative. I say, "potentially" because i'm hoping by next episode Vinny will see the error of his ways, as he did when Dan was rewriting over Brad's character, and will change the name back while better enforce the overall rules of an exquisite corpse. That way Dan can still play the heel but must be clever about it, while giving others the opportunity to retaliate against his antics creating an amusing back and forth. We're not going to get that if anyone can just rewrite previously established content to fit their narrative on a whim.

I'm taking the side of the, "This series sucks" people but i have a more controversial perspective on who's to blame. I think Dan's "doing Dan" as he does, can't blame him for being himselve. The problem is with Vinny being too lenient on the rules. We'll see if Lang gets switched back next episode, otherwise if Vinny can't commit to the premise of the series then i can't be bothered to watch it either.

Xcom alone is a fairly boring game to watch; the narrative that forms from the naming of the characters is what makes it interesting. If going back and changing established characters is allowed then the only thing that makes Xcom watchable is ruined.

It's hard to hate on Vinny for anything, and it's his series to ruin, but i don't agree with blaming Dan for the ruin of this series.

I'll definitely watch next episode and have enjoyed Abby and Alex, though i wish Vinny didn't coach as much, but at this point i'd rather the series was just done so they can move on to other things or try again in Xcom 2 with a better, or more committed, understanding of how an exquisite corpse works.

Life hacks: if you get flat bread from "that chain" get it toasted. Doesn't toast the flat bread but it makes it softer, tastes fresher.

@fear_the_booboo: When you do enough quests eventually you'll get a quest that lets you skip the first level. Though, if you skip the first level you won't have any crystals or special items.

Bought this game, i like it. I don't really agree with the vine speed being too slow, it technically has two speeds...like a tank in battlezone, you move one stick forward you turn slow, you move one forward and the other back, you go a bit faster.

oddly enough, if you play a lot of helicopter controls in games, those skills will translate over into this game as it's a lot about angle speed, and counter angles to lose momentum.

It has a hand full of thinks that irk me, hazards that blend into the background, holes that hide behind terrain, can't use the hazards against the enemies, but overall i've enjoyed the 5 hours i've put into it so far.

After getting a key to this DLC i was motivated to jump in and play hacknet. Finished the main game and this DLC and it's pretty great despite some of the snags that really killed my momentum. Really scratches the Uplink itch. If it gets anymore DLC in the future i'll be buying it on release.

For those who want more of this type of thing, try Uplink: Hacker Elite and Hacker Evolution (just skip Duality, it's kinda trash)
