The 501st enables the neutralitzation of General Grivous by General Kenobi. But then Order 66 is issued and the Jedi themselves become the target. The jedi temple is overrun and the Jedi get eliminated. After that the way is set for Chancellor Palpatine to announce himself Emperor. He transforms himself Emperor. The days of the old republic are over and a new era begins.
