Somewhere in January I realized I was beating games at an unusually rapid clip for me, so I figured I ought to see if I could beat 100 games in a year. As of April I've started to fell off the pace, but we'll see how it goes.

I fully support this endeavor, and it look like you're well on your way. Some really good games on here already too! Godspeed, good sir!

That's quite an endeavour -- good luck! It does seem like you're giving yourself a strong disincentive to play longer games though.

I've started playing Braid twice and never gotten more than a couple of sessions into it. I really need to go back and finish it.

I have been keeping track for a few years now and the most I have done is 69 in a year. My only real goal with it is to keep beating the year before, but that will be tough this year.

Thanks man! this is super unusual for me. In all my years gaming never ever had anything close to a run like this. I have no idea how long I can keep this up. Probably not terribly longer, we'll see.

I've got a stockpile of unplayed Sierra games (mainly Police Quest and Space Quest) I intend to bust out when I fall behind to catch up. Adventure games I can bang through pretty quickly (1-3 days), especially the old ones.

Thanks Mitch! I don't know if this is a good idea, but I'm rolling with it and seeing where it goes!

I think my favorites of the year so far have been Guacamelee (for mechanics and controls) and LA Noire (story, world, characters).

Thanks Grant!

Absolutely, that is definitely the drawback, but my backlog has blown up so badly due to a couple year hiatus from games and Humble Bundles etc I need to start somewhere. And if I don't play them now, I know I'll likely never get to them. It is definitely coming at the expense of new releases I want to play though like Dark Souls 2 and Lightning Returns.

I have managed to bang out a couple long games I put 80+ hours into this year (LA Noire and Saints Row 2) but this is definitely making me pick shorter games first. So what I've been doing to balance it out is pick a longer game for the month and take short breaks from it periodically with shorter ones.

The next long one I'm chewing right now periodically is GTA IV which I want to clear before Games for Windows Live dies, can't say I've liked it very well so far. But I got discouraged since GFWL just ate my most recent save which has made this month a bit more unproductive. :(

You know I had a hard time with Braid it just didn't click with me. I had to restart it twice myself. I liked many of the conceits, but there is this subtle underlying pretentiousness throughout the whole affair I find personally offputting. And something about the quasi goombas ("monstars" I guess is the official name) enemies and quasi piranha plants I dunno felt super contrived.

That isn't to say it isn't a good game, I think it is, it just didn't live up to the hype imo. Maybe it couldn't have given the status it has gained over the years. I think if it came out today it would not be nearly as well regarded as it was in 2008 and might have even get lost in the noise of the flood of indie games. I don't think it holds up as well as say Limbo or Fez admittedly much newer games but also ones which I think are easier "to get" (more unique art styles, more direct story telling etc) for the average player.

That is a bunch, I just went and looked at your lists and man you do tear through a bunch of games!

This is the only year I plan to go this nuts with it, end/beginning of console gens is about the chance I have of forcing myself to clear a backlog. Once I get my hands on new hardware, it gets hard to restrain myself from just buying and playing the new stuff.

I think my ultimate longterm goal is to have a net decrease in my backlog each year until it's down to a manageable number, moreso than shooting for x number of games a year. Since I like to play RPGs and Open World Games I figure 15-30 games per year is probably a sustainable good long term number for me.

@slag: I would really love to get my backlog down to a manageable size, but I keep adding games faster than I can finish them.

I hear that. It's a real problem for me too. I think it is a for a lot of us, especially in the all digital age. At least with Physical copies the evidence of the backlog is undeniably in your face. And once you build one it's real easy to let it keep growing.

Damn good luck. I have a terrible time with these lists cause I am always a jerk to myself and go "well if I already beat it then it don't count!!!" Since I don't buy 100 new games a year ..... outta my league :P

Thanks man!

Well I don't buy 100 games a year either, my backlog just got real bad.

And that only got worse when I took a gaming hiatus for a couple years.... I finally started to chop the list down last year pretty good but then I hit up some steam sales and humble bundles and it blew up worse than it ever has. Game prices if you are not buying AAA new releases are so insanely cheap now. A lot of these I got for less than a few dollars out of pocket through sales and selling steam trading cards/free 2 play loot. I probably only buy 2-4 brand new games a year .

Putting it on a list is an attempt to keep myself honest.

I know what you mean about being hard on yourself. I've already got myself in a pickle a few times this year because I instinctively try to s-rank games if I like them. That doesn't help a whole lot with the ultimate goal of beating 100 games.
