@itwastuesday: The tone was always weird in Metal Gear games. One minute you're in a harmless action movie and then oh by the way, Raiden is a child soldier, Meryl gets raped, Eva gets tortured, Otacon fucks his stepmother, Crying Wolf kills her own baby brother, and Paz gets a bomb inside her.

That stuff always bothered me and I always felt it didn't need to be there, but at the same time it's weird to me that nobody gave a fuck before and now suddenly Kojima is the worst human being on the planet for something he's been doing for 15 years.

With what little he said, I think Sutherland did a fine job. It's about time that Big Boss isn't Solid Snake with an eye patch. Why isn't anyone else getting angry that Patric Zimmerman was replaced? He voiced Ocelot since Metal Gear Solid from 1998.

I was sort of bummed when I read that but after hearing Troy Baker in the E3 trailer, I think he's great. Granted it's just a few lines so it's hard to judge, but he really just sounds like a younger Ocelot, so the character should be intact.

Say what you will about Hayter, Kiefer completely changes who Big Boss even is.

I think that is what Kojima is gunning for. If Big Boss doesn't become a villain half way through The Phantom Pain, he sure as hell will at the end of it.

Then why did he keep the same actor for the japanese version?

@demoskinos: Robin Atkin Downes was in The Last of Us and he played a different character in all 4 Uncharteds. He's an amazing actor.

There's nothing unique about the voice acting in Ground Zeroes. It sounds just like every other Metal Gear game. It's not like Hayter would be outshined by fucking Christopher Randolph or by whoever plays Skull Face. He would fit right in. I think Kiefer sounds okay in the tapes, but nothing mind blowing either.

I don't buy that Snake will be in the final game though, because they would've changed the voice of Big Boss in the japanese version as well. I think he's gone for good.

.. but he's kinda not. Hayter is a writer who kind of fell into Metal Gear. It's never been his "calling" so to speak. The dude is a writer (and a good one).

I agree but he's still an okay voice actor. He was fine in SWTOR, and from what I've seen of Republique he was pretty good in that, too. He's no Troy Baker or anything, but not bad.

And again, put him next to Paul Eiding, Christopher Randolph or Quinton Flynn, he's pretty much on par. Metal Gear games always sounded like badly dubbed anime, and that was part of the charm for me. I understand why they would want to get away from that but then they should've changed all the actors and not just Hayter. This whole thing makes zero sense to me.

There was also a bit about her being the only developed black character existing only to be killed by the white Disney princess.

I feel like people who think that are looking a little do much into that.

That's putting it nicely. These people are actively searching for anything that could be viewed as racist/sexist/homophobic if you really overanalyze it without context, just for the satisfaction of pointing it out and appear more reasonable than the masses. Fuck them.

Yes, but you didn't miss much. You can find it on youtube.

It's just a panorama of Rapture with the tail-end of the plane from Bioshock 1 sinking in the distance.

I felt indifferent about the Oculus to begin with, but I understand the concern.
