Slowbird's New, Improved, And Totally Awesome List Of The Most Awesomest Racing Games Ever

TOTALLY NOT MADE JUST TO COMPETE WITH PsEG'S LIST THAT HE IS ALSO MAKING AGAIN.

List items

  • Where do I start? It's the racing game to end all racing games. If you gave this game HD graphics and put it on PS3, it would be better than Gran Turismo 5.

  • This game introduced me to PC sim racing. I didn't know it at the time, but I would never find a game as truly amazing as this one in terms of the modding community. Every imaginable type of racing was created as a mod for this game. It was glorious.

  • I will fight anyone who doesn't like this game. Let's go. You and me, right now. If I was suddenly hit with a serious case of amnesia, the joy of experiencing this game for the first time all over again would be the silver lining. (Actually, who am I kidding? There are lots of things that I would like to forget. Can I get some amnesia pills over here?)

  • It's the Gran Turismo or Forza of the N64. It's so good that it holds up to this day. I actually played the whole way through it just last year. The graphics still look good, and the car handling ranges from challenging to superb, depending on the car you choose.

  • If you want multiplayer sim racing, this is where you go. It's subscription-based, but don't hold that against it too much.

  • If there's anything bad about this game, it's that there weren't more multiplayer activities. But it's a true masterpiece in terms of doing what an open-world driving game should: making you want to drive around just for the fun of it.

  • The damage modeling and wide range of event types made this demo-derby racing game impossible to stop playing. I think I beat it three times, and it's a pretty long career mode. Also, figure-8 racing never gets old.

  • Sprint Cars are wild. Take the horsepower of a NASCAR engine and put it into a small cage with a giant wing and crazy tires, then set it loose on a track made of slippery dirt. There's nothing else like it. This game captures that experience.

  • The most realistic rally game ever made, and the hardest as a result. Truly a joy once you get past the learning curve.

  • Two cities, cool cars, and tons of style. Plus there was a mode that had you doing movie stunts and driving over big jumps.

  • The first rally game I ever played, and still one of my favorites. It had great graphics for the time, and the car handling felt good even though it probably wasn't truly realistic.

  • It's got monster trucks, so it's already got a leg up on other racing games. Plus there's a sweet 2-player mode where you can play soccer or hockey.

  • This game was incredible out of the box, with great physics, a vehicle upgrade system, and lots of good tracks to race on. The amazing mod community was the icing on the cake, providing hundreds of custom trucks to drive.

  • Papyrus was known for making extremely realistic racing sims, and this is the best of their NASCAR games. The community still puts out mods for this game. I never got a good handle on the tire wear and setups, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

  • It has Pure Stocks in it. If you don't know what that means, get out. Oh and modifieds, trucks and the top level of NASCAR too. 4 different types of racing in a career-progression game means lots of replayability.

  • STORY MODE. Enough said.

  • The best thing about big rigs is racing them. It's like trying to make a hippo run shuttle drills. It should never work, but it does, and it's amazing.

  • I love free things, obscure things, and customizable things. This game has all that and a bag of retro style. One of the best top-down/isometric racing games ever, and I usually don't enjoy those.

  • I used to sit in the basement and play this game for hours and hours, into the middle of the night during summer vacation. I played it so much that my thumb would turn as purple as the buttons on the SNES controller. Plus, the music is fantastic.

  • Do you like racing, but hate wheels? Then you probably love F-Zero. It's one of the few futuristic racing games that I enjoy. Probably because of the sweet jumps.

  • This game is great because it pulls off the "single car" idea without becoming boring. There's lots of different unlockable Beetles that look cool and have improved performance. It's also got crazy fun tracks and a pretty good multiplayer battle mode.

  • This one is slightly better than Forza 3, but certain tracks were left out and that makes us sad. But whatever it's got Sonoma so that's good enough.

  • It refined and polished the gameplay and presentation of Forza 2, culminating in a fantastic experience.

  • I played the arcade version as a kid and was a fan for life. I still enjoy the N64 port despite its flaws.

  • It's like Cruis'n USA, but with new tracks and cars. It's hard to decide which one I like more.

  • It's great because the cars blow up when they take too much damage.

  • If it wasn't already clear, I like a good demolition racing game. And this one is pretty good. The most unique feature is the "insta-kill" that you could bring to another competitor by landing directly on top of them after a jump.

  • This isn't just a standard kart racer. It's got boats and planes, plus an adventure mode.

  • Lacking a true multiplayer mode, this game may fall short of its successor, but it's still got great driving physics, and lots of car and track variety that make it worth playing.

  • I don't want to hate on this game. It's good. But it's no DiRT 2. I think the repetitive use of the same level geometry and excessive gymkhana events bring it down a notch for me.

  • This is like that Sprint Cars game, but with different types of cars. It's still pretty good though.

  • I would put this game higher, but the career mode loses some of its luster in season 2 when there are no driver/team changes other than the player. However, it's still fun and challenging.

  • Another game with destructive properties. It's pretty good.

  • Just like the first, but I think this one had some cool mini-games where you launch the driver at a target or something.

  • The game that came with my Xbox 360 was also one of the finest racing games of this console generation.

  • I remember this game having the 2000 Mustang Cobra R in it. That's almost enough to make up for the general lack of cars compared to the previous game.

  • It's like GT2 but with better graphics and a sweet photo mode.

  • I love Hot Wheels, and this game has them. It's got sweet jumps too, so you know it's good.

  • I'm going to tell you guys a secret: this is actually a touring car game. It's got a bunch of American cars turned into race cars, so it's awesome in that way also.

  • I like this game because it lets you drive buggies and trucks over jumps. The physics are a bit slippy, though.

  • I spent most of my time in the free demo, driving the rallycross track over and over again with different AI combinations to make for thrilling races. I barely played the full game after buying it, but it was probably good too.

  • The first and still the best.

  • I think Super Mario Kart is better, but this one holds up pretty well, mostly because of Rainbow Road and that sweet trophy presentation at Peach's castle.

  • Bristol Motor Speedway. That's all you need to know.

  • Dude, have you ever seen old racing footage? It's always cool. Well this game lets you relive that footage. And it's got Riverside in it, which is great because that track should never have been demolished. A real crime, that was.

  • It's like the other NASCAR games from Papyrus, which means it's good. This one didn't have quite the same shelf life, because of the annual release schedule.

  • Ditto for this one.

  • This NASCAR game is on an older physics and graphics engine than NASCAR 4, but it's still pretty fun. I like it because I can play it with a controller more easily than the newer ones.

  • It's a touring car game, so it has to be good. Also, they made a bunch of expansions for it.

  • I'm not sure why I like this game, but you'll just have to trust me on this one.

  • It's like Sports Car GT because it was made by the same people. It's got hundreds of mods and a solid physics engine. I just never learned how to make mods for it, so it isn't higher on the list.

  • It's the off-road racing equivalent of Cruis'n USA: an arcade game ported to the N64 that is still fun. It's pretty hard, though.

  • This game was so fun in the arcades. The N64 version is cool too, but nothing beats the arcade experience with this one.

  • It's so old and simple that I can play it on a shitty laptop. That's the kind of awesomeness I need sometimes. Also, it's fun.

  • It's still one of the best Baja racing games, which is kind of sad.

  • Not a perfect game by any means, but it has a huge amount of content to experience, and was worth the time I spent with it. I just wish someone could make a time-based racing game without having blatantly obvious AI balancing issues.

  • I still suck at this game, but the concept of racing the entire 24 hours at Le Mans will always be cool.

  • It's one of the first PC racing games I played. It was pretty fun, if I remember correctly.

  • It's like the other Rush game, but newer and better.

  • Ditto, except this one has wings for advanced air control. Sweet!

  • Another decent arcade port.

  • I only played a few Burnout games. This was one of them. I think it has the crash mode that is the best part of Burnout games.

  • I never played this game when it was new, but I played it much later and it's probably cool if you can get it to work right.

  • Something is up with the physics of this game. I love CART though, so it gets a pass.

  • It's probably just as good as those other Cruis'n games, but I can't remember if I played it or not.

  • I bought the XBLA version of this game just for the easy achievements. It's kinda fun with a wheel, actually. (Just like the arcade version.)

  • It's super old and probably fun but I only played it at a friend's house.

  • It was well-received and popular but too difficult for me at the time.

  • I used to play the demo of this at the display stand in the store. It didn't have any Fords so I didn't buy it. I picked up a cheap copy years later. It doesn't hold up well.

  • I didn't play all the way through this game, because I'm lame and bought it way too late when everyone had moved on. I still like it, but it's not as high on the list as it could have been.

  • This game sucks with a controller. I should play it with the wheel to see if it's any better.

  • Doesn't run very well on my PC, but it's got figure-8 racing so it has to be good!

  • Sort of cool N64 game that I need to go back and play again.

  • Not as many cities as the second game. I still like it, though.

  • It's cool because you can rename all the drivers and have an F1 race with all your friends as AI people.

  • It's got neat dirt effects. I got bored of it though.

  • I think it handles like crap.

  • It's a solid kart racer, but I don't really remember much else.

  • It's fun but I forgot to finish it.

  • An okay budget game. The damage effects are pretty cool, actually.

  • Super hard game that is probably awesome if you are good at it.

  • I liked the slow cars in this game, but the fast cars were too hard to drive.

  • I vaguely remember playing one of the Midnight Club games. I think it might have been this one.

  • I also remember playing NASCAR Heat. It was either this one or NASCAR Heat 2002. Same thing, really. Whichever it was, it was fun.

  • I guess this game was alright.

  • I like the part where you race on the Nurburgring in the snow.

  • If this game had a better physics model, it would be 5 stars.

  • IT'S GOT MUSTANGS IT'S A GOOD GAME SERIOUSLY JUST PLAY IT

  • IT'S GOT FORDS IN IT SO IT'S THE BEST GAME, HOW COULD YOU ASK FOR ANYTHING ELSE FROM A GAME

  • FORD RACING AGAIN PLEASE BUY THIS GAME AND ALSO BUY A FORD

  • FORDS ARE THE BEST SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP

  • Well, at least half the cars in this game are cool. (IT'S THE FORD HALF OBVIOUSLY)

  • It's a mediocre N64 racing game. I like it.

  • It's not the best, but whatever.

  • It's kinda crap.

  • It's a jetski game, but it's alright.

  • It's a game I played once.

  • This game sucks but hey whatever I played it

  • This game kept crashing and losing my progress on PS2.

  • I'm including this game for the lulz.

I don't see Kinetica on this list.
