Poison seemed pretty damn good in PvP from my experience. Were you just not able to get enough consecutive hits in with that weapon?
It depends on your poison dmg, how often you have to hit a dude to apply the dot. With these daggers, I'd say it's about 10 proper hits in quick succession, or 20-30 hits into the shield. With the abysmal dmg and reach of daggers, you just aren't competitive, especially since stamina costs aren't that much lower when dualwielding.
I recently encountered a guy using two spotted whips. (or at least two poison ones, though they looked spotted.) The strong attack in power stance would poison me immediately, and was very fast. Beat that guy but it was really, really close.
If you get to Drengleic castle you can farm the Llewelyn set, which looks really awesome. All black leather, long cape, fur collar, good defenses. No poise though. It also doesn't have a helmet. But it's one of my favorite looking sets in the game.
Which enemy drops that set? It sounds like something I would be into. Been using the Jester set with Dark Leggings and I've found it to be really effective so far.
@sterling: I actually use that dick's rapier, (+10) and I was using one of the base level ones for about 15 minutes before I realized why I wasn't doing any damage to any of the new mobs.
So, I'm in Brightstone Cave and I'm getting crazy drops off of these spiders. They've dropped human effigys, Zweihanders, and multiple Ricard's Rapiers Is anyone else getting weird drops like this?
