Build a Good Menu for my RPGs Please!

In some rpgs, if you go deep into the system and want to make the most of your abilities, you're going to spend a decent amount of times in the menus.  That being said, some developers just haven't learned how to make a good menu.  Here, I present you with the worst rpg menu this generation.

-Yea pipboy, you are cool and all, but you suck.  You have the main sections that feel like huge flips, multiple pages within those, and then an amount of scrolling to be done on those pages.  You're just not laid out well.  In truth however, you are the Oblivion interface.  Why did I not put that instead?  Well, although you look awesome in white, you also suffer from glitches.  Why are you sometimes stuck in a bright mode where I can't read anything?  Come on now.
-Another bad menu is Infinite Undiscovery's for a different reason that being you can't pause the game to go into it.  Yea, cool in theory for everything to be real time, but it makes me want to avoid it altogether.  It's not really flawed, nor is it good, but it just should be designed differently
- and my final example of a bad menu will go to fable 2 at its launch.  No, it's not really to do with your organization, but it shouldn't honestly lag while scrolling through menus, just no.  It's been fixed, so I can't hold a grudge, but this is just a big no-no.  Same goes with loading to access the menu.

Here's some good menus from this generation in rpgs:

Besides being super sleek looking, notice how everything is in view and easily laid out. While item lists are impossible to not scroll through, things like
accessory slots/ active weapon, etc. should not be in a scrolling list (think oblivion ).  It should all be laid out and once you click on it you should be given the list of equipable items.
And no, when I click on a weapon slot you should not give me the option of accessories only to say "unequippable" when I click you.  Wrong.  Those go in their respective item listing section.

I think SO4 might fail in this part (not sure- don't have it, don't have screens/videos to prove yes or no).  Whenever you equip something that changes multiple stats, you should always have a comparison chart.  You should be able to see the stats you have in your current state and when highlights the oither should show the changes with a color code- doesn't matter what though. And the no effect doesn't have to be white either.  The key point is that you should be aware of changes being made easily.

Also, notice the top bar.   Notice how it describes some of the key stats.  Time played, gold, metal, and location. This isn't fitting for every game, but general important info should be easily displayed.

Hope you actually read it, but if you just looked at the pretty menu pictures, that's fine too.  Comments would be appreciated.

Fable isn't a WRPG.  That's some nutty English dood that can never seem to deliver 100% on his promises.

Holy sweet Jesus Smug, doesn't anything make you happy? I said a lot of other things in my post but deleted it just because I don't want to get banned. We're all one big friendly community here, but I'm finding it hard not to burn you at the stake and ask everybody else to join in.

The problem isn't with what you say, we are all welcomed to express our opinions.  The problem is in the way you present your opinions.

I will say that Fable II held up on promises far better than the original did, BUUUUUUUUT:

Collector's Edition downsizing...
Extreme amount of casualness that could make this game easily placeable on the Wii... (how many times did YOU die on your first playthrough? and how many times did Molyneux refer to Fable II as a "challenge"?)

Lack of emotional attachment (had no problem killing the shit out of anyone or anything personally)

Still has slacking character equipment choices (but then again, you did JRPGs, so I would expect you don't have much of a problem with limited amounts of gear per characters)

All in all, it was an updated version of Fable that delivered on about 90% of Molyneux's promises.  The dood needs to STFU and just make a fucking game for once.

***Before you go looking at my gamertag, I wasn't allowed to play it at work.  Boss is a hardcore Christian and won't allow the game due to gay marriage...even after hours.  Yet he allows Gears of War.  I don't understand him sometimes...

At first I thought the whole dog aspect was pretty lame, then I began feeling attached to it for some reason.  As much as I love Fable II my biggest problem is with the online co-op.  I mean sharing the same screen and not being able to use your own hero, come on

There's something called immersion. The Pipboy menu is easy to use and increases immersion. JRPG menus can vary but they're polar opposites from Fallout 3's. One of them is catered to managing your characters and the other is managing your items and stats.

umm yea... that's we're you fail.
what about that is failed promises more than your expectations?

Where did he say "you will have tons of equipment" or "you will have emotional attachment to people" anywhere?  He said you'll develop an emotional attachment to you dog, which actually hit pretty decently.

There's no broken promises in what you said.

I recommend you find some interviews prior to the game's release to understand that you are wrong here Smug

The dog was the main point for that, but you were supposed to also gain an emotional attachment to your wife and kids and shit.  Never had that.  Could be a subjective thing, but whatever.  Still didn't deliver for me.

As for the equipment issue...he said you would have more options than you did with the original Fable.  I still felt limited as hell.

I agree.  There was way too little character customization clothing wise and I usually just stuck with one weapon when I found something good.

I didnt like the Pip Boy either. It was just one of the annoying little things that made Fallout 3 one of the most disapointing games of 2008 for me.

for the most part it's if i don't suck up to every single feature of the games we're suppose to consider good/bad/underated/overrated I get bashed for it and I always become the one who's flaming and bashing.
Let's think about this, how is my original thread complaining?  Is it not explaining a proper menu system?  Answer that quesiton.

Kind of ironic really.  I post something, people complain about what I posted, and then they complain about me complaining about something (?)  I guess..

The pipboy couldve been much better it has to many screen for no reasons. Example radiotion and health stuff couldve been together. Also all the healing item shouldve have been on the same screen not with the other "aid" items

Damn, You caught me, I also sort of didn't like the pipboy, but I thought the idea for it was good.
