Metal Gear Solid 4 is out now, so yeah, it's definitely worth it. If you plan on going for a used one, I recommend to get the 60GB (depending on where you live, you may find a refurbished 60GB).

I don't have any cause the registration was being awful, so I gave up. From what I've heard I'm not missing out on much, but I would still like to try it.

It does seem that Sony is giving the leftovers to Europe. The PAL 60GB has the same PS2 compatibility as the NTSC 80GB models. And let's not mention the delays in release of systems and games. Nintendo is guilty of this as well. As for the reason, I have no idea.

I never got into the Splinter Cell series. I liked the first Syphon Filter on the PS. It's one of my favorite games, but the MGS series is just epic and is one of my favorite video game series ever.
