Top Five: Games of 2014

A list of my favorite games from 2014! Take note that I do not have a lot of money and therefore am not able to purchase every game that gets released (even many of the ones that I'm very interested in) so if there is any game that you don't see on here that you really think should be feel free to send me money so I can buy it!

  • The first thing that I think of when talking about Transistor is the incredibly unique and impactful visual style that permeates this jam packed gem of a game. All to often are games too focused on reaching for the stars or fitting the status quo of whatever is currently trending in the gaming market but leave it to SuperGiant Games, the minds behind Bastion, to make something that really feels like a piece of art. Furthermore they've made something that feels only right to exist in video game format as opposed to other forms of media. From the combat, to the narrative, to the subtle world building and amazing visuals, Transistor is a complete and total knockout.

  • I really enjoyed Inquisition but in regards to the series, I find that it falls short on both of it's predecessors (say what you will about Dragon Age 2 but at least it has a better sense of pacing). I think Bioware did a great job with introducing the Dragon Age series to more fans with this installment and it is (overall) my top pick for the best game of 2014. However, I do hope that in the next Dragon Age installment, more attention is paid to the main storyline and the companion characters, instead of fetch quests and filler material.
