Do I want to play this game?

I'm not Metal Gear die-hard, but I enjoy the series a fair bit. I've only played the 4 console games, skipping on the handhelds because I didn't have anything to play them on and I didn't have any desire to go back to them with the HD re-releases. My only Peace Walker is Metal Gear Scalon and I didn't pick up Ground Zero's because the stuff I heard about the story really turned me off. Then seeing it turned me off even harder.

As someone who's only player 1-4 for the goofy nonsense, is this game for me?

The amount of Silent Hill 2 in this thread is really bumming me out.

For me it's System Shock 2. Followed very closely by Silent Hill.

As a Final Fantasy 8 apologist, I have to sort of pretend that twist never happened. Its the worst! The absolute worst! I feel like some of the crazier fan theories were created just to get over how stupid that twist is. God it makes me angry thinking about it. What were they even thinking!

I was really enjoying the whimsy of Final Fantasy VIII right up until it decided to shit its pants at the orphanage. For as much as I may have spewed histrionics related to the earlier parts of the game that don't even hold a candle to this. It's...among the worst plot twists I have ever seen in a video game.

I still think Star Ocean: Till the End of Time is worst.

I know you've had a rough night, but lets not be crazy now. Do you really think that "it was a video game all along" is actually worse than "we all grew up in the same orphanage and forgot about it except one guy who never mentioned it even after we told him to shoot his mom in the face?" Truly? Truly?

100% yes, and hear me out on this one. For as bad as the orphanage twist is there's still plenty of Final fantasy VIII to be had. There are TWO MORE DISCS for me to complete from this point forward. The "twist" in Till the End of Time is all part of the climatic end of that game and you have to stomach through that twist for the rest of the game. Let's also not forget that Final Fantasy VIII is a self-contained story that has no bearing on other games bearing the Final Fantasy namesake. Till the End of Time on the other hand is a part of an interconnected universe and RUINS an entire franchise. The entire beautiful world that the Star Ocean franchise had built up to that point is forever beholden to that twist.

And don't give me any of that guff that The Last Hope retconned everything...we don't know that for a fact.

Okay, I can understand that logic. I still don't agree with it, but I don't think you've gone totally insane anymore. Then again, I love Till the End of Time, stickily for the gameplay though. I'll be the first to admit the story is balls.

Yes, let the hate flow through you. Fulfill your destiny.

The orphanage twist is both ironically and unironically my favorite plot twist ever. Somebody sat down and wrote that, though it was a good idea, submitted it, and no body stopped them. It's mind-bendingly incredible. I literally cannot believe it. But believe it or not, it's not over yet. Not by a long shot.

For as amazing as that twist is, I still never got past the fact that in a world where anti-magic field generators exist, the primary villain is a sorceress.

400+ hours in Star Ocean, Till the End of Time. I didn't know anybody my first few months in college.

I love that game a whole lot, but even I have my limits.

It really depends on what you like about Metal Gear. Do you like the philosophical and techno-thriller side of it? Then Ghost in the Shell is what you want. IF you are more into the ever escalating absurdity of the hero's and villians and their schemes, the you might be better suited watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Actually, watch JoJo's ether way. One of the villains turns his hand into a squirrel and sends it to attack a robot Nazi. JoJo's is the best.

From what I understand, Nier basically contains Metal Gear Solid 2 amounts of crazy in its story and gameplay and some people were way into that.

The Insanity of Nier makes MGS2 look like a fly on the wall. For example Nier actually ends up erasing all of the player's save data if they see the "best" ending. Said "best" ending leads to a character fucking a corpse of a young boy who resembles the MC.

Well...I never finished all the playthoughs needed to get that ending. I might just have to now.

If only this would mean less Troy Baker in videogames in the future. Actually, can we put a moratorium on the entire P4 crew?

I drop any RPG that doesn't let me directly control all party members.
