Hey gang!
As you probably know, I've just ordered a new gaming PC. Parts due to arrive over the coming couple of days, so I'm looking for things to play once I finally get it up and running. I suppose, here's a list of things I bought in sales, in preparation FOR the new build, and I'm also looking for your recommendations as to what I should be playing that I might have missed. I'll preface with this: I do have a PS4 and I've played quite a lot of the bigger multiplatform games over the last couple of years. Either way, if you think there's something I've missed, please let me know!
Here's what I've already got ready:
Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void- I'm a huge SC2 fan. I played OBSESSIVELY during WOL, and in HOTS, and I'm eager to play LOTV. I'll only be playing the single player, because I know I don't have it in me anymore to dedicate time to MP. I have the GSL to tide me over for watching decent MP games.
A Hat in Time- I hear nothing but good things about this charming looking platformer. It's a shame that GB didn't run a QL of this, because I wanted to see what it looks like running, but I'm eager to play this in the downtime before I buy a Switch and Odyssey
Grim Dawn: When I was growing up, one of the games I dedicated the most time to was Diablo 2: LOD. It was a simple loot driven game that if you've played, you'll know how awesome it was. I enjoyed Diablo 3, but it didn't really have that lasting appeal that LOD had. I also tried Torchlight 2 and bounced RIGHT off that, and POE was too complicated to get into. I'm hearing that Grim Dawn is the TRUE spiritual successor to Diablo 2 and I'm DESPERATE to play this. I originally bought it during the Steam Winter sale, hoping to play it on my laptop while I was listening to the GB GOTY podcasts, but this PC can barely run anything over Spelunky HD, so that was shut down. For those of you that have played GD, will I be okay on the vanilla game, or is the expansion necessary?
Dragon Age: Inquisition: I'm a big fan of Bioware's Dragon Age Origins, and I thought Dragon Age 2 was pretty okay. I know that DA:I is a bit more like an offline MMO, but I'm willing to bet that there's still a lot of good stuff in this game. What do you guys think?
Here's what I'm looking at playing. Reviews and recommendations are very welcome!
Hollow Knight- Heard good things, and I like the artstyle
Stardew Valley- I bought this on the PS4, but couldn't really get into it. Is the PC version any better with the inclusion of mod support?
Night in the Woods- The impassioned talk on GOTY made me really wanna get into this. Another game where the artstyle looks terrific
Rocket League- Wondering if people are still playing this, and if it's worth a look in? I didn't buy it on PS4 because I don't wanna pay for the PS Plus stuff
Owlboy- I liked the look of the QL, and another stunning looking game.
Pillars of Eternity- This is the biggest question mark for me. I NEVER played a classic CRPG, with the exception of Might and Magic 7 (One of my favourite childhood games), but I know that's a FPRPG, and plays a lot different. I tried Baldur's Gate 2 as a nipper, but the sheer amount of systems really put me off. I'm hoping that as an adult, I can appreciate this more. What would you guys say?
Planet Coaster- This looks like modern day RCT. It's a must look at, but I haven't heard much about it?
Divinity: Original Sin 2: Desperate to play this, but concerned over Rorie's complaint that there's TOO much stuff to do. I really enjoyed the original, aswell as Divine Divnity back in the early 00's, but I'm a bit hesitant to jump in.
Civ 6: I liked Civ 4 and 5 a lot, but I'm not sure about Civ 6. I hear they streamlined and stripped a few things that have put me off. Anyone have any input here?
Overwatch: Almost definitely going to buy this. I loved TF2 and I'm looking for another decent class based FPS to just kill time with.
Assassins Creed: Origins: I played the SHIT out of 2 and Brotherhood, and I hear this is a real return to form. I didn't like 4 that much, and I didn't play any more AC games since then. The only concern I have here is the poor PC performance. Has it got any better yet?
Phew. What a long list. I think I've been writing for over 15 minutes now.
Would you guys recommend/dissuade me from any of these games? Would you add anything else in? Have I missed anything super important:?
Thanks so much for reading this MAMMOTH thread. I look forward to reading your comments!
