I will preface this by saying that I only recently started drinking alcohol and used to hold some of the views that you do.

@Korolev said:

No, I don't. Not for any religious or cultural reason, but just because

1) It's potentially addictive - some people can handle it, some clearly cannot. I do not trust myself to be able to avoid addiction.

2) Alcohol is toxic. Drink 100% alcohol and it will kill you. No, the alcohol in wine is not good for you - the grape juice in wine is good for you and you get exactly the same benefit drinking grape juice as you would get from wine. There is no health benefit gained from drinking that outweighs the negatives. Simply put, it's bad for you. Now, how bad it is depends on how much you drink.

3) It's expensive.

4) It alters who you are. You are your brain. Who you are, fundamentally, depends, in part, on your brain chemistry and alcohol alters that. Even if temporarily, when you drink alcohol you are fundamentally altering your personality. I will not do that. Not even temporarily.

5) I want to be in control of myself as much as possible at all times. I will be in control, I will decide what I do, I will maintain a clear and level mind - or at least, I will strive to do so as much as possible. I will not sacrifice my self-control merely for a good time. Presence of mind is valuable.

I don't judge moderate drinkers. Hell, I don't even judge strong drinkers as long as they don't commit crimes or hurt others. Moderate drinkers can handle alcohol and heavy drinkers might have bad personal stuff going on and they need help, not scorn or hatred. Many of my friends, many of my role models, many of my relatives drink alcohol and I don't look down upon any of them for doing so. They seem to be able to handle it and they have a great time. Some of the greatest minds have enjoyed alcohol.

But I do not want to drink. That is the decision I have made. That is my choice and I will stick to it come hell or high water. I will not drink, and I will not because I decided not to. Never, ever, ever will I drink alcohol.

1) Same can be said for caffeine and manufactured sugars.

2) Chocolate and high fat foods are also bad for you but I assume you don't take the same stance on them as you do on alcohol. There is also something to be said about the mental health benefits of having a good time with some friends after a hard day/week of work/college.

3) Entirely depends on where you drink and how much you drink. Video games are also very expensive.

4) I wouldn't say that is necessarily true. I have found that it suppresses your anxieties and shows the real you. If your a prick sober your going to be a prick drunk.

5) That is totally your own choice and you have every right to hold that opinion

tl;dr

Life is short, don't forget to have some fun :)

Did that guy just say nuclear power is one of the safest forms of energy? Let me guess, he failed physics class in school.

@Fobwashed Typically programmers are bad at maths so there are a lot of "maths for game programmers" books out there.
If your seriously interested in game development then you should check out this book

Although it is aimed at c++ and DirectX there's tonnes of useful information for general game programmin

@Fobwashed: Not really. Apart from linear algebra and trigonometry there's not much "hard" maths to worry about. This is especially true when using higher level languages and APIs such as C# with XNA.

And if you do find an area that requires a higher level of maths somebodies probably already found a solution and posted it on the internet.

@Fobwashed: The only thing I knew about programming -- prior to this post and your previous one -- was that I'd never attempt it due to the incredible amount of Math involved. Me + Numbers = No.

Truth is, there's not much math involved in game programming.

@triple07:

Sounds more like a DNS problem, maybe some DNS server is just resolving the address wrong.

Edit: Giantbomb just changed its frontpage and maybe the IP and some DNS servers havent updated yet. It should fix its-self
