That's pretty cool! I think vidjagames are a ways off from topics of race, they have a hard time breaching religion too. It's a shame, really.

I would say that I've decided to try to make a game, but that would imply that I'm not determined enough to succeed. Good or bad, I'd like to make something.

After watching this year's coverage of PAX East and the Molyjam, and after playing a lot more indie games than I usually do ( Fez, especially), I've been thinking a lot more about what really goes in to making even the most rudimentary game. I was really inspired by the story behind Dust: An Elysian Tale to see if I would be able to make anything playable let alone fun.

I have no programming experience, very few computer skills, and even less time, however, I'm prepared to invest whatever is needed to get some kind of program, no matter how small, running. The one skill I do possess is that I've been working as a professional tattoo artist for the last ten years, so coming up with some basic art might be a little easier.

I've done a little bit of research in how to get started, and downloaded a free copy of Game Maker 8.1 as sort of a warm-up. I finished up the first tutorial last night, and hope to get in to the second one soon. From there, I'd like to make something original with it to prove to myself that it's possible.

I'm keeping a record of my experience with all of this more as a way to prevent myself from giving up halfway than a way to get advice or feedback, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I'll ( try) to report my progress every Monday, along with whatever other interesting stuff I find along the way.

See you next week! -Blair.

I think all of those except for Viva PiƱata stand some chance of actually getting made. Maybe not called Gears 4, but I don't see why they would abandon the franchise while people are still willing to pay for it.

The point for me has always been to end each day with no regrets. If you live each day like you might not get another, you're rarely dissapointed. If you're anything like me, though, that really just means acting erratic and following any stupid whim that blows your way. That must be how I wound up as a tattoo artist with a pilot's license who's interested in game development.

I would love to see more Action RPGs in the vein of Secret of Mana. More RPG in every way, just not turn-based. Cladun X-2 is the closest I've seen recently.

Hello, guys,

I'm Blair. I'm totally new to the forums, but I've been a huge fan of the site for about a year and a half after a client of mine turned me on to it. Obviously, my main hobby is playing games, but I enjoy reading, painting, and playing with my son. Even though it's a little boring to talk about your job, I work as a tattoo artist in northeast Ohio. Normally, that wouldn't be interesting, but the studio I'm at works strictly with custom tattoos, which allows me to get away with doing a lot of designs that most places wouldn't touch, like a bunch of nerdy video game related crap! Our newish website is up if you guys would like to check it out at Art Bomb Tattoo.

As for games, I'll play anything that suits my mood at the time. Like a lot of you, I'm sure, I buy far too many games and have far less time to play them. I have a fairly substantial back log of unplayed games going back to the early Dreamcast era. Usually I'll try to play something new, then go back to something older. For example, I just recently played through my old Dragonwarrior cart, and now I'm attempting to tackle the entire Mass Effect series.

I'd really like to get more involved with the forums here, considering I spend most of my internet time on Giant Bomb anyway, and this seemed like a good place to start!
