@hassun: I think how long there was between episodes was a significant factor, and the fact that the last one didn't hit until December, when a lot of GotY stuff was already in the can or being made.
@zeik: Lol, the dig at Dimitri and Claude is mostly me shitposting. That said, I'm about 2/3 of the way through Blue Lions and I'm still not convinced that Dimitri isn't just revenge cop. But yeah KH3 isn't the best game to play, like I wouldn't want to slog through it all again, but I'm happy to keep revisiting all those narrative beats because they landed so hard with me.
I relistened to all of Lore Reasons just a few weeks ago and at the end of it they're so excited about what to do next with the series it's really sad. Maybe they'll do another one at some point but with Austin stepping away and Natalie moving on it seems unlikely.
@phished0ne: I guess I'd be curious to know what you mean by "competitive circuit". The people on kappa are just there to stream monster and shitpost things. Otherwise they don't exactly get involved in the tournament scene outside of occasionally sending players places. Even though SCR last weekend was a SFV premier event, I believe MvCI had both higher entrants and higher stream numbers.
If you're talking longterm developer support for the game, then who can say. But the fact that Capcom is heading this Battle for the Stones tournament series for MvCI is already orders of magnitude more than what they put into MvC3. Maybe this is it and MvCI doesn't end up being a part of the Capcom Pro Tour next year, but MvC3 survived for 6 years without Capcom's help and went out strong. I don't see any indication that MvCI will fare any worse.
@phished0ne: As someone who has long considered the Versus series to be "their series" when it comes to games in general, I'd recommend you give MvCI an honest shot. I'm over the moon with how much fun I'm having playing it and can't imagine ever wanting to go back to any of the previous games on anything more than the occasional lark.
@daedaluss: I guess it depends on what you actually love about MvC, but as a fighting game MvCI is definitely a proper successor for the series.
@steveurkel: Almost all the MvC3 players are all-in on MvCI. It's pulling in a lot of players from other games as well and even has some old MvC2 players resurfacing. Of course it doesn't hurt that this game will likely have a Capcom pro series with significant prize pools, but even without all that it seems like a majority of players are ready to move on from MvC3.
@fredchuckdave: I'm honestly struggling to remember if I even saw SKill this year. Of course, having cool folks to hang out with tends to cut down on creepshot opportunities.
@geraltitude: I can't speak to it vs other majors, I hear Combobreaker and CEO are great, but I know that if money wasn't an issue I'd be there every year.
