Game of The Year 2014

As of this writing I have not had the chance to play some notable games like Dragon Age, Call of Duty, or Sunset Overdrive. While I'm sure one of those will probably probably edge their way on to this list, 2014 has not left enough time, so this is what we got.

Honorable mentions to Forza Horizon 2, Jazzpunk, and The Wolf Among Us.

List items

  • Some people had some legitimate gripes with this game, but overall I still enjoyed myself enough to play Dark Souls 2 on both 360 because I just couldn't wait for the PC version, and then again when the PC version came out. Maybe I'm just crazy. This game made noticeable improvements over the previous game, mostly with coop and PvP.

  • I still have not played the first game, and I really think I should now. Bayonetta 2 was something beautiful and crazy, and I loved it. To say this game goes places is to put it mildly.

  • Cuttin' fools heads off, das wussup. The nemesis system made for some superb game play, and I cannot wait to dive back in for some DLC.

  • Ultimately this was a lot like just more Far Cry 3, which I am totally fine with. On top of that, they made a lot of improvements to just the way things work. You no longer take a ton of damage by falling 3 feet!

  • The lack of any sort of real campaign or story mode is fairly disappointing, but 8 player smash and very well done online mode make up for other areas of the game that are lacking. Great roster with a great set of moves, this is something I will be playing for years.

  • My personal favorite for soundtrack of the year, I just could not get the main theme song out of my head. This game hits the retro/nostalgia better than any other game in recent memory.

  • Double Dash didn't do it for me, but this game is great. It's also one of the best looking games this year, and I can't wait for the second DLC to hit.

  • This was actually the first Wolfenstein game I ever played, the rest just never sounded all that interesting to me personally. Naturally I was surprised by the phenomenal story and characters present in this game. Definitely highly recommended.

  • Play this with the Kinect, thank me later. This game is crazy in the best of ways and you should treat yourself.

  • I was extremely lukewarm on this game when it first came out, but then I kept playing it. And kept playing it. And kept playing it. And despite it's myriad of faults, I still found myself enjoying my time with Destiny. The damage done here was well over 100 hours.
