Well damn

When picking up Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath on PSN, I also grabbed Rayman Origins on a whim. I'm not a big platformer guy anymore; "my series" when I was a kid was Mega Man, and I still think Super Mario Bros 2 (the Doki Doki Panic one) is a better game than Super Mario Bros 3, so I suppose I'm kind of the wrong guy to judge a pure platformer. But dang.. Rayman is really something. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something about the model where you can invest as much as you want, and have a great time regardless. Granted I haven't gotten very far yet, and I'm told it gets brutal, but for now anyway it's just a joy to play, and I love it when a game lets me choose how much I want to challenge myself.

The only thing I'm not crazy about yet is the collision detection on some enemies. It's kind of hard to judge the exact position you have to be in to land on something, so the general feel right now is to just try and land on the middle :-P Reminds me of Little Big Planet in a way, and not a good one.

I'm turned on the game reccently, I didn't like how it looked like the game was ending and they then throw 4 more worlds in. But at the end of one of the worlds it says I need 24 more of those pink things, so fuck that!

I think I'm about halfway through the game now and I've been enjoying every bit of it. It's easy to fire up the 360 and just jump in, which is one of the things I love about 2D platformers. Too bad the game was kinda overlooked since it was released in the one of the most video game packed months in years.

Oh and the collectibles....so many collectibles! I'll be playing this forever.

Have you tried any of the treasure chest levels yet?

I've done the first two and they're a lot of fun.

Really enjoyed Origins, I played with a couple of flat mates and it was an absolute blast. Those treasure chest levels in particular were great.
