Oh tentacles! 0

Okay so I just completed the new Resident Evil game (this one being the fifth in series for those living under boulders), so what was my overall general impression of the game? Dated.   I remember when the first game came out over a decade ago—it blew me away. The gameplay was sleek, the graphics ludicrously detailed (for its time anyway) and the story at least held my attention as a boy not yet in his teenage years. From then I played the subsequent games up until Nemesis; all of which I enjoye...

A fun and empowering, albeit familiar outing. 1

Fable II, much like its predecessor, is a game about choice; these choices in effect ripple throughout the experience, creating a myriad of different outcomes for both yourself and those around you. While the game nevertheless tells a very linear story and has in place all the usual restrictions of such choices usually associated with modern console RPGs, you’d be hard pressed to find an experience as rejuvenating, addictive and empowering as this one on the console market. Telling a story of ...

Familiar but long-lasting and enjoyable. 0

Lost Odyssey is everything you would probably expect from the man behind the now infamous Final Fantasy series. Whether or not this is necessarily a good thing or not relies solely on your opinion of said series, and whether or not you can make-do with what is largely a repackaged FF game with a different title. That is not to say that Lost Odyssey lacks anything remotely new or interesting, but rather that the time tested gameplay associated with the FF series makes a dominant role here, and no...

A decent start, but only for TNA and wrestling fans. 0

Back when I actually gave any attention to wrestling, the games market for sports entertainment was one of variety in terms of quality and the developers making them. There was also the fact that WWE hadn’t bought WCW and ECW either, and so each had their own titles. Since that fateful transition however, the sports entertainment corner of the video game market has suffered in terms of delivering varied experiences. In fact for the past five years, the standard has been pretty much set and raise...

Solid Singleplayer. 0

Battlefield: Bad Company (2008) When transferred over to the console platform, Battlefield has never quite satisfied on the multiplayer front as much as its PC counterpart, an although there is vast improvement here between Modern Combat and Bad Company, the mode stills lags behind Call of Duty 4. The greatest aspect of the game however lies in the single player campaign which mixes a standard war story set in the near future with some great characters. Furthermore, the open ended nature of the...

Marvel Mashing 0

Marvel: Ultimate (Xbox 360) …The Ultimate of Marvel? As far as games go, Marvel have had their fair share of great, mediocre and poor games, going as far back as the commodore 64 in the 80’s. Generally however, as technology has progressed and video games have been growing in both technical and entertaining aspects, Marvel games as a whole have began to flourish along side them. Marvel: Ultimate is that next big step as the industry finally settles into the next generation and offers play...

Decent Trek. 0

Star Trek Legacy (Xbox 360) …300 years of dispute If there ever was a franchise with some terrible games it would be Star Trek. Ever since the dawn of gaming there have been games based upon the five series’ which isn’t a surprise in retrospect seeing as many a computer nerd able to program games back in the 80’s, probably enjoyed a bit of cheesy TV sci-fi. With time however, there is sure to be improvement somewhere down the line and Legacy is a title that definitely does that, maybe not as...

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Xbox 360) …Double Crossing Terrorism So here we are with yet another sequel to a popular franchise, and you’d think I’d be getting tired of playing these things again and again but luckily I’ve been treated to good sequels this year to play through and Splinter Cell is no exception. What needs to be said however is that this isn’t the best I’ve experienced from the series nor is it a series that I’m entirely convinced about or enjoy as much as others but nonethel...

Tony Hawk’s Project 8 (Xbox 360) …Welcome to Project 8 Admittedly, this was a surprise. I came into this game thinking that it was just going to be another skateboarding game, marketed with Tony Hawk’s name on the front cover. I was right in one sense yes but entirely wrong in another. I remember way back when the very first game of the series was released for the Playstation and I remember playing it for hours on end, even after completing everything, just because the gameplay was so fun to...

Gears of War (Xbox 360) …Time to put the gears in motion So I’ve finally ranked up at least 12 hours in Gears of War and I’d say it’s about time I let you all know just how good this game is and if it’s worth all the acclaim it has received. After going through the story mode and playing a good amount of hours online, I’m fairly confident in saying that Gears of War is probably one of the top 3 games on the 360 and certainly one of the most enjoyable shooters of all time. Of course, it all c...

CALL OF DUTY 3 1. STORY / GAME MODES Call of Duty is back and it’s 1944, at the height of the allies ever increasing dominance over Germany in World War II. This time around you will be taking on the roles of 4 characters each from their own country (, , & ) all of whom will be killing and fighting for their lives on the battlefield throughout your play. As a whole the story mode in Call of Duty 3 is somewhat disappointing. After the grand, epic and cinematic scope of last year’s game made...

Original Star Wars + Lego = Awesome 0

Lego STAR WARS II 1. STORY / GAME MODES Lego Star Wars takes place during Episodes IV-VI of the films, more or less chronologically if you chose to do so. Every important aspect of the trilogy’s story is stuffed in here, with lots of added humour and slight alterations in order to shorten it all down into one game. If you have played the first game in the series already you probably have a good idea what this one is going to be like already but if not then just think of the films, shortened do...

DEAD RISING 1. STORY / GAME MODES If you didn’t know already, this is a zombie game. You play the character of Frank West, a freelance photojournalist whose suspicion gets the better of him as he finds himself on a helicopter to ‘hell’. Well, it’s not hell in the literal sense but according to Carlito Keyes, it is the closest thing to it on earth. You see what Frank didn’t realise was that this mall wasn’t just the centre of a scheduled riot or anything along those lines, but had literally tak...

HITMAN: BLOOD MONEY 1. STORY Hitman: Blood Money of course features our now famous protagonist, Agent 47, doing his work once more for the good of… well, himself really. If you haven’t played one of the three previous Hitman series games then you probably have no idea what I’m talking about. Well, just for you lucky few: Hitman is a game based around a hitman, you play the hitman and he hits people off for other people who pay him. How does Mr. Agent 47 get his jobs? Through an agency of cours...

Great platformer. 0

NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS What more can be said about the super Mario Brothers franchise? Quite simply put, SMB is a set of games that not only revolutionised the gaming industry but probably kick-started what was to become the Nintendo dominance of the early 1990’s. Over the years there have been many a spin-off of the original games, on Nintendo’s later generation systems, but little more did we get of the classic platform game we had grown to love back in the day after the move from the SNES t...

Solid arcade fun. 0

GEOMETRY WARS: RETRO EVOLVED Originally seen in Project Gotham Racing 2, Geometry Wars is a game that has seen it form quite some reputation and good reviews over the past few years. So it seemed almost unthinkable that Geometry Wars wouldn’t take advantage of Microsoft’s brand new Xbox Live Arcade: a host of classic and modern arcade games, usually ranging from $5 to $15… and it didn’t. To many fans delight, Geometry Wars wasn’t only coming back but it was bringing someone with it, it’s younger...

Fun adventure 0

1. STORY Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time or MLPT as I shall refer to it from now on, is set in the usual Mario setting, yep you guessed it: . You’ll take on the roll of both modern day Mario and Luigi and also baby Mario and Luigi whom must stop the evil Shroom Princess and villains as they attempt to take over the of the past and kidnap Princess Peach in the process. It might sound a bit much to take in, but it’s all nicely told throughout the duration of the game, and never gets technica...

One of the finest military FPS games ever made. 0

1. STORY & GAME MODES Well as obvious as it may be, Call of Duty 2 is set during the second half of World War II and you play as 4 Allied Militants: Private Vasili Ivanovich (Soviet Union), Sergeant John Davis & Commander David Welsh (British) and Corporal Bill Taylor (American). The game firstly puts you in Stalingrad, 1942, right in the midst of the and ’s battle of . Following this you take control of the British forces in Eastern Europe during 1943 & 1944 and then finalize the ...

Dissapointing sequel 0

What? Another Star Wars game? The sequel to a game released just last year? Yes, you heard right, Knights of the is back and expectations are high, as games don’t get the ‘Game of the Year’ award just for nothing. So yes, it has been only a year since the release of the original KOTOR game that delighted RPG and Star Wars fans. Does that mean however that this is just a cheap cash-in from the original game’s success, perhaps even taking influence from such games as The Sims, and EA’s other fran...

Mediocre Horror 0

1. STORY & GAME MODES As the game’s story begins, you take on the role of a Federal agent in to investigate a recent murder committed by a now well known serial killer. As the game progresses and you inspect the crime scene, things take a nasty turn and the criminal you’re looking for actually seems to be in the building with you, cutting out all the power. So as always, it’s your job to find the power supply and get the light back on so that you can hunt down and detain the wanted criminal...

This isn't a game. 0

It’s been a long time since Nintendo has had as much publicity and success as it has with the recent release of it’s new virtual life game entitled ‘Nintendogs’. With the recent popularity boost of reality TV, and other virtual life games such as The Sims and all those Tycoon games, it would seem that bringing out Nintendogs at this specific moment in time was a very smart move for Nintendo and well, it was but that’s all it is really. You see there is something new and original about Nintendogs...

Good shooter 0

Being one of the most anticipated and wanted games available at launch for Microsoft’s brand new console, Perfect Dark Zero certainly had everyone’s hopes up that it would certainly deliver in terms of perfection. Brought to us by Rare, the company that gave us the infamous Goldeneye for the Nintendo 64, and of course Perfect Dark for the same system, the game certainly had the force behind it to make it quite an experience. Perfect Dark Zero is a game 4 years in the making, but was it really wo...

Finally a good Star Wars game. 0

So what is this? The 100th Star Wars game to be released since the 80’s? Well, it’s probably somewhere near that figure and not many of them can truly be described as impressive to say the least. There have however, been a select few that have not only furthered the advancement of the Star Wars series and helped them recover life in the video game industry but also given a much needed push to the video game business as a whole. If there’s one thing that can be said for SW games though, it’s that...

Is it that time again? Yes, Nintendo have released yet another instalment to their highly successful Mario Kart franchise. This comes in the form of Mario Kart DS exclusive of course for the Nintendo DS portable gaming system. Of course, it comes to nobody’s surprise that it was going to happen, I mean releasing this game can practically call out to all kinds of audiences young and old, gamer and non gamer alike because let’s be honest: There aren’t an awful lot of you guys out there who will re...

Pro Racing 0

The release of a next generation console is finally here and with it, it has brought us the usual racing franchises showing off all that glossy shine that a new console brings to the table. Throughout the history of video games infact, the racing genre has neither really succeeded nor let us down over the years. One thing for certain however is that with these new days of graphical advancement in video games racing games always seem to show off all the capabilities of their time. I will admit ho...

Gameplay: 7 Graphics: 8 Sound: 8 Lifeline: 6 Enjoyment: 6 The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is a game that challenges you throughout, through the quantity of things you have to bring down rather than reinventing itself and coming up with more than 1 type of challenging mission for you to complete. Great for having fun and venting frustration; unfortunately however, it’s the game itself that will most likely cause you to turn the game off in frustration more times than any game should. First of al...

Supreme storytelling. 0

Indigo Prophecy is a game that is very original in it’s own right. It’s a game that will continue to draw you into its fantastic story right until the very end and leave you feeling completely satisfied. Based upon the less popular genre of today’s gaming world, Prophecy takes the adventure style of gameplay and makes it its own, implementing other little touches along the way. It is important to note that the game has two different titles depending on where you are. In the the game is called ‘...

Gameplay: 8/10 Graphics: 8/10 Sound: 10/10 Lifeline: 6/10 Enjoyment: 9/10 If there's one thing that can be said about movie endorsed games, it's that they will more often than not, be unworthy of your time. This however, can not be said this time around for Peter Jackson's King Kong: The official game of the movie (and longest game title). Based upon the widely acclaimed movie of 1933, the new film produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) is set to be another blockbuster smash in the cin...

Grim Fandango? What's a Grim Fandango and why would I want to put it in my disc drive? Do you find yourself asking this question when seeing such a game on the shelf at your local game store? No? Yes? Whatever your answer and whatever you may or may not think of this game already, Grim Fandango is certainly a game to be recognized, and not just for its wackiness and originality. Solid Spider-Man Game 0

The Game Itself... Based upon the popular comic book series released twice a month by Marvel Comics of the same title, Ultimate Spider-Man was hyped to be one of the most realistic adaptations of a comic book to date. The comic book series itself is basically a piece of re-written Spider-man history, sticking closely to the original themes, plots and characters created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko; the new comic delivers a revived and more modern adaptation of the much loved super-hero Spider-M...

Good children's action. 0

The game itself... "Invoke fear", "Defend justice", "Feel the power of the Bat-mobile", "Play the movie"; Sound familiar? Just about all of these phrases put together on the back of a game case would probably fill any comic book fan with delight just by reading them aloud. Indeed it would prove to be not just comic book fans, but any fan of a good action game that would feel such an urge to test out such a promising tagline. Never have I been a fan of Batman games prior to the release of this ga...

A Classic RPG. 0

The game itself... Being one of the most highly awaited games of the Xbox’s life span, Fable was finally released to the Fable-thirsty public in late 2004. Ever since the Xbox launch, the title had seen its fair share of hype and excitement from gamers all around the world... well, maybe not so much . Mainly due to Japan's ever-sinking enthusiasm for Microsoft's big black box rather than being uninterested in the actual game itself. However, there was quite a stir going around for the game. A lo...
