The intro for this game caught my attention. Though, I fear it's one of those intros that has themes which peek interest, but the game never explores further.
Also do not remember anyone liking Code Veronica that much. Especially not as a "big deal" game.
Code Veronica was pretty hyped up pre-release. Whether that was because it was on a new console or the improved graphics I can't really say, but I do remember quite a buzz around that game at the time.
It was 100% because of the backgrounds. It was the first in the series that didn't have pre-rendered environments. I played most of the ps1/ps2 era RE games and I honestly couldn't tell you anything that happened in Code Veronica. That's how good/bad it was.
In all seriousness, this never should have been a first person shooter. The anime was never about combat in that regard. An RTS, or point and click adventure game would be able to do the source material a little more justice. Sadly, none of this matters as the studio will be able to recoup it's development costs in alternate skins of Motoko alone, thus justifying similar licensed cash grabs.
