@sethmode: Yeah, I feel like I wasn't able to have Eivor react the way I wanted to this. I guess I've been playing a pretty chilled Eivor, and didn't seem to be able to do much but yell. Nuance - less of a reasonable expectation in a) a viking character, or b) an Assassin's Creed character ;)

My favourite parts of the game are the few occasions where you get to solo stealth your way around a large fort, when I get to try to pick off everyone in it without being spotted, and looting the place dry, apart from the things I'm not allowed to access until I hit the story trigger for that area. Sadly those story triggers are usually large battles which was never why I like the series. If there'd been some way to have me continue to sneak around amidst a giant battle that might have been interesting. Now, three England regions in there are some hints at an interesting story ahead, though Sigurd's sudden turn to crazy seemed to happen between one mission and the next, a little out of the blue which felt odd. Maybe I missed something in previous interactions. Beyond that, there's clearly some mystery to uncover but I'm wondering if it'll pay off. There's also quite a few places with area that are inaccessible until the story catches up with you, or which feel a little weird to revisit once it does which, if you're an explorey-type open world player, can be jarring. It's a tough balance because I do love the freedom to move around, but the story would probably be better served without the fully open world. But then I'm one of the weirdos who really loved the first game, and was baffled by complaints like "it's just going from place to place assassinating people" - yeah... you're an assassin, and I loved the blending, the social stealth, hunting down your target, bam, kill them, and out. Story aside (I also liked the potential of sci-fi switching, and what could be been made of the modern day stuff if they'd had the confidence and the chops), I'd play a whole much longer game that was just a variety of people and places, with their own architectural and geographical challenges between you and your target. But *your* target - you and your wrist-blade's, not you and your army's and special powers' target. But obviously that wasn't how the series was destined to go.

Actually it's Hitman, isn't it. I want Historical Hitman.

They just need to hire someone that can do something interesting with all that lore as the potential is enormous.

I usually feel in the minority (could be wrong, but it's how I feel) in enjoying movement and combat a lot less in the "modern" AC installments, with what feels to me like less precise and controllable parkour, and more mushy fighting, with too much emphasis on sudden, magically unblockable attacks. I'm told it's more "Dark Souls"-like (don't shoot me - I have no idea) which would probably explain as I usually feel in the minority of not enjoying what I've tried of those either. But I've always been intrigued by the potential which the AC settings, modern, future or past could offer, if told well. I don't think there's any point saying 'this period or that period wouldn't interest me' as it's perfectly possible any could be done incredibly well, as a setting. But the way the mechanics have gone make the experiences less engaging to me (perhaps with the exception of parts of Bayek's story which I found quite moving), so perhaps I'm more open to any setting because I'm less interested in what the setting is...

That said, to the OP title question, it would at least be interesting to see the result of some complete and cohesive lore they might has written down somewhere, or if they are in fact just winging it from game to game ;)

One thing that I can complain about is that the game still has unfun open world jank.

As some one who just lost another 10 minutes of progress because this time I'm stuck in a hay cart I definitely would have preferred they polish this one off a little more.

@isomeri: Pretty sure it's just spam, with that betting link.

(You're right, though ;) )

There are just a couple of little things that I personally find irritating. Not highlighting loot-able kills so, particularly for smaller animals in snow if you kill a bunch of things in different directions you have to remember where they were to find them, and retrieve your arrow. Not impossible obviously but a bit fiddly. I can't tell if you can craft arrows, with some descriptive text in-game saying you can, and some internet threads saying you can't. Might just be something they teach you past the point I'm at. Maybe the most annoying thing is that you can't always swing your axe in the direction your pushing. It will sometimes force Eivor to turn towards whatever nearby thing the games decides you should be breaking, rather than letting you attack in your chosen direction. Not so much in combat, but say you're in a hut and fancy smashing everything - that fence? No sorry you need to break this pot first before we'll let you attack in the fence's direction. And the lack of current inventory stock in the shop UI.

This is one of those situations where I spot seemingly pedantic little details because it is a series I've enjoyed so much, and it's a setting I'm hopeful I can enjoy once it opens up a bit more.

Big fan of the entire series. I'm still pretty early on. Feel pretty Odyssey-y to me. Which is fine, though nothing's really standing out yet. Except the occasional loss of progress from reloading saves when Eivor skids into the geometry and just sort of quickly vibrates in place, unable to complete his skid and return to regular walking around control.

Just tried a few downloads on both EGS and Steam, and they give me about the same speed on both.

I don't know if it's region based or what, but I've never had any problems with the download speed on EGS.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if it's regional. I don't remember having a problem before, but like I said it's been a while. So maybe a "local" CDN node is struggling at the moment or something. Even after the ini file fix, though it's so much better it's still half the speed of my Steam test. Thanks for checking though. It's interesting to see how it is out there for different people.

Dude, thank you! Those .ini files settings did the job. Crazy. Of course since downloads are ditched when you restart the Epic client I need to start over, but it should catch up much more quickly.

I guess I'm still old and stuck in my ways enough that I still google for these things rather than search for a video ;)
