Surprised I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the new xx album, "I See You," is pretty great. As good as anything else they've done (which is not faint praise). I'm looking forward to listening to the new Kendrick Lamar album that just dropped tomorrow.

@johnymyko: I see where you're coming from with your criticism of 7, because the film is more down-to-earth than 5 and 6, but I really don't think the filmmakers took it that seriously when you have scenes where the crew is literally driving cars between skyscrapers and flying through the air in cars. If anything, I think they got the tone of 7 exactly right, because the send off of Paul Walker's character is done way better than I expected. I also understand why they wanted to stop one-upping themselves with each film, because after 6 (where the crew is basically James Bond saving the world by taking down some military super-villain) I don't know how they could have kept raising the stakes without literally sending the crew into space (which I still hope happens at some point).

I'm really enjoying replaying Mass Effect 3. (I know, I know, not exactly the Mass Effect game to be playing at the moment). I never had a problem with the ending, and regardless of how one feels about that, I think there's a lot of cool moments along the way.

Planning to play Persona 5 next (as long as the PS3 version works fine and isn't too hobbled by the old hardware).

5 > 6 > 7 >>>> 3 > 1 >>>>> 4 > 2

6 is real close to 5 for me, and 7 is real close to 6. I think the runway scene at the end of 6 might be my favorite scene of the whole series. The pure stupidity of a runway that never fucking ends and has to be like 20 miles long, combined with the otherwise overall excellence of the surrounding action, always amuses me to no end. Not to mention there's the emotion behind Gisele dying and Han's subsequent sense of loss, which sets up his character in 3. That scene more or less sums up what I love about the whole series; big, dumb action and telenovela drama. 5 still takes the top spot for me though, because it's probably a better movie start-to-finish, and because it was the first movie where all the pieces came together.

I would say they are definitely not worth your time if you have not read the books. They all feel rushed to me because they try to cram as many plot details as they can from the books, leaving little room for organic feeling character development or artistic flair. It's a very mechanical and utilitarian approach to filmmaking. The 3rd movie might be the only exception to this criticism, and 7 and 8 move at a slightly slower pace because the only cover half a book each. Even those I wouldn't necessarily call great films either though.

Thanks for the in-depth info @chumm. I had a feeling that the 'neon-green' absinthe, as you put it, was artificially colored to make it seem more 'authentic.'

@tycobb: I too like Knob Creek a lot. Good whiskey. I enjoy drinking it straight; no need to mix it with anything.

Also thanks for the absinthe info @meierthered. I wonder what explains the wide variety in color? Different distillation techniques? Artificial coloring? Something else? I might investigate further.

Hey OP, I had the pleasure last summer of getting some absinthe while at a restaurant in Paris literally named after the drink, and the stuff I've gotten here in the States is not too far off from what I tasted in Europe. Maybe stores in Oregon get better stuff, but perhaps it would be worth trying again (or trying a different brand). I did notice that the Parisian absinthe was a clearer, almost translucent color than the usually greenish tint that US brands always seem to have.

It's probably just placebo since I know the urban legends surrounding womwood, but getting pleasantly-drunk on absinthe feels slightly different (emphasis on slightly) than getting drunk on regular alcoholic drinks. I would describe an absinthe buzz as slightly more lucid.

I also enjoy an Old Fashioned, but the vast majority of my drinking is either beer or bottom-shelf wine, for budgetary reasons.

I buy the premise of this topic. II is complete trash. III probably has a more interesting story than I with better action scenes...but it also has Hayden Christensen and Emo-Anakin. Ep. I might actually be the most fun. I like the final act of the film with the flipping between the lightsaber battle / gungan-trade federation battle / storming of the palace / space fight (though Anakin stumbling into a ship and somehow winning that battle is stupid).

That being said, I wouldn't say any of the prequel films are "good."
